“Great hotel, met all our needs”
Rooms were nice, garaged parking, everything worked, no complaints.
“Great location!”
Staying at Castle Inn was very enjoyable. It's location is very centrally located to most areas of SF. Located right on public transportation lines mad it easy to go anywhere in the SF area. The front desk help was excellent and extremely helpful with every question we had and being new to the area we had quite a few of them. The rooms were clean and comfortable with refrigerator microwave and coffee maker. The small continental breakfast was simple but good. Quite a bit of street noise during AM rush hour but thats to be expected in a large city. Over all our stay at Castle Inn was very pleasing.
“Served the purpose.”
This was a very basic hotel in a convenient location. We really didn't need a car, as it turned out, but got one in the package vacation. The continental breakfast was minimal and required you to get it and return to your room to eat it. Basically, we had a clean safe room to sleep in, in an area near many restaurants and within walking district of the waterfront. We had a microwave, fridge and wireless Internet. The desk clerk/concierge gave us good information regarding things to do, places to see and good tours to take. A 2-2.5 star hotel.
“Won't ever return”
Website pictures are very deciving, very scary ghetto neighborhood. Parking lot is very, very, very small and spaces big enough for a golf cart, SUV won't get in without scratching or denting both sides. Even the vending machine was broken. Sirens wailing non stop throughout the night. Mattresses are very old and you can feel the springs. Very annoying beepig alarm loud sound from parking.
“clean, charming hotel”
We had a nice stay at the castle inn. Parking is free, which is a rarity in San Francisco. Continental breakfast consisted of muffins, yogurt and fruit and got us through until lunch time. The hotel is one block away from great restaurants and a short walk to the cable car stops. It was clean, comfortable, and the staff was friendly. We will definitely stay again for our future visits!
“Perfect location!”
Perfect location to Fisherman Warf. Hotel staff very helpful in making suggestions on where to eat and thongs to see. Will definitely stay here again on our next visit.
“Disappointed”
After reading some of the reviews on Expedia, I expected Castle Inn to be a simple, yet pleasant motel. My husband and I spent two days in San Francisco, in a rare get-away, and we both wished we had stayed somewhere else. The motel is depressing in that it's very low-end / basic. There's no lobby, just a check-in desk in a tiny room, at the top of short flight of stairs. All the rooms are accessible directly from outside. There're no amenities such as room service. You don't feel like you're being smart with your money, by staying here. You just feel like it would have been worth to spend more, and have a more pleasant experience. On the plus side, our room was clean and presentable.
“San Francisco stay”
After reading the reviews for this hotel with a 50/50 mix I decided to try it out anyway since they had free parking and were in a decent location with a reasonable rate. I am glad I did because the staff and room were great along with the location. Upon arrival I was given maps and information about the city including the parts that are not as safe at night. Sometimes I wish I had stayed at the Wharf because it is more convenient to things in that area, but when one ventures into the city this place is right in the middle of everything and easy accessible buses can get you anywhere you need to go. The only thing I did not like about the hotel was that the parking spaces are very tight. I had a small compact car and it was still a struggle. Other than that and a few limited channels on the tv it was a great experience. I would definitely recommend this place and stay there again myself.
“Great for the money and free parking”
I took a very long time to pick a hotel. I was looking for a hotel that had free parking and breakfast. The breakfast didn't work out too well for us, we had kids with us and there wasn't much they were interested in, they just had muffins and Nutrigrain bars. But, even the fact that they offered free parking made up for it, and there was no problem finding a spot. The room was very clean and did the job, we just used it to sleep in. The front desk was very helpful with directions and bus transportation information. Within walking distance to much of the major sights, such as Lombard street and China town, the warf was walking distance, but you come in at the far end, we were going to alcatraz so it was quite a distance just to walk from one end of the piers to the other, still doable though. There was the best pizza and mexican food restaurant on the corner by the hotel, Nicks crispy tacos, and Escape from New York Pizza. Walgreens was also on the corner, which was convenient. I didn't see any transients out front the entire time, which I know was a complaint for a lot of other hotels. It was located close to Russian Hill, if your wondering about the area. Overall, I am glad I saved the money and went with this hotel, it did the job. Nothing disgusting or to gross you out, just what you'd expect from an older hotel for the price, standard beds, sheets and bathroom.
“i would use them again!”
Free parking......what else can you wish for when visiting SF? We only slept in our room while we were there, but it was in a great location. Walgreens on the corner and walking distance to all sorts of sights.
