Adequate hotel near Union Square

Posted May 20, 2015
Pros: Not a great deal unfortunately! It was centrally located providing good access to the city.
Cons: Cleanliness, customer relations of some staff members and value for money
Location: Centrally located with access to much the city has to offer
I booked using the discounted service which does not disclose hotel until after booking and full payment. I was willing to take the 'risk' on a 'blind' hotel booking because of guaranteed criteria listed. I will not do this again. It was disappointing that having been guaranteed a room that would sleep 3 adults, we were given one with just two full size beds and towels etc. for two people only. We were prepared for the fact that two of us might need to share a queen bed, but not a full size. None of us is large or overweight but we did not have enough room to sleep comfortably and we had to put up with all night music from the foyer below us. We reported this on the first night. The female receptionist we spoke to on Sunday morning seemed unconcerned and told us it should not be on at night. No concern was shown or apology given. The same problem happened the next night so we did not sleep well! The room was clean and linens were fresh but generally the hotel needs a good clean. The banister rail on the stairs between the ground and second floor is sticky and black with grime! In contrast to the reception staff member, the guest services man was very helpful and courteous. The cost of the room was not cheap and I do not consider it was good value for money or lived up to expectations based on criteria published by Expedia. I travel a lot and very rarely am dissatisfied or find a need to complain. I am not looking for luxury. Below Expedia's normal standards

We arrived in San Francisco around 9am, hours before check-in, after travelling by sleeper train down the west coast. The staff were helpful, looking after our luggage for a few hours and letting us check in a couple of hours early so we could freshen up. The location was excellent, just a block or two from Union Square. We were able to walk to many destinations and were also near lots of buses, cable cars etc. The room was comfortable enough and clean. One nice touch was a dispenser of ice water in the lobby. There was also complementary wine every evening between 5 and 6, which we made use of once. On the other hand, the en suite bathroom had definitely seen better days. It was functional and clean, but needed freshening up and a lick of paint. It could also have done with a proper bathroom bin (ie with a lid) which I think women in particular appreciate. The bathroom window also needed replacing - it had a big crack in it which had been taped up. It didn't bother us too much, but I expect more for a hotel of this price.

- Nicely located - Friendly staff - Rooms are small but clean @ $166 a night including taxes within walking distance of Union Square, I was skeptical; but it proved to be a great find. I will definitely stay here again and recommend it to all my budget friendly friends.

Hotel room was clean. Staff friendly and helpful about things to do in the area. They allowed us to drop off our bags way before check in. Only complaint was the extremely loud noise at 6 am. Either garbage or laundry. Overall good hotel for the money.

Very cool hotel.

Pros: I liked that it was an old building. They've been putting a lot of work into it but keeping the vintage feel.
Cons: Longer free wine happy hour haha! No I thought it was great, wouldn't change a thing.
Location: Union Square, China Town, Nob Hill, everything is a short walk away. There was some really good places to eat and have a drink across the street too.
I loved this place. Location was perfect, had a nice room, and who doesn't like free wine every night? There was good places to eat within walking distance that were inexpensive for the area. Cable cars, trolleys, even the BART were all a short walk away. I would definitely stay here again.

Perfect Location

Pros: Complimentary wine in the evening. Very centrally located so we walked everywhere.
Cons: Coffee service in the lobby for free. I don't like the little coffee pots in the room. Had to go out to get coffee.
Location: Union square, Chinatown ,northbeach,....
We have stayed here many times and it is the most bang for your buck in SF. If you are looking for a huge room this place is not for you. Small, cozy and every room has a winery theme. I have always had a nice room with a window seat but I have seen smaller rooms that I am glad I did not get. Very clean which is for me very important.
