"Historic" is old

Posted Jul 29, 2015

Hotel was old and room small.

Posted Jul 29, 2015
The Bell man was the rudest I've ever encountered. Not a great start The room was tucked away around the back with a view of air on pipes and a wall! Room was old smelt musky but did have the two beds as promised Storage space so limited we were tripping over bags constantly. Must be better value hotels in San Fransico Only positive was its great location.

Nice hotel close to every tourist attraction

Posted Jul 29, 2015
Pros: It was close to every tourist attraction in the city of San Francisco. It was centrally located. The overall service was great.
Cons: The staff could be a lot more friendly and cater to the needs of the guest.
Location: The location was very convienent to all tourist attractions and places to eat and shop.
Great hotel and I enjoyed my stay. There were problems in the dining area, they were very slow to wait or assist me. The last day there were elevator problems and I was located on the 4th floor and had to take the stairs up and down.

In the heart of San Francisco: surprisingly good!

Posted Jul 29, 2015
Pros: Simplicity, clean, uncomplicated.
Cons: Complementary light food in the morning and in the room.
Location: This Hotel is by Union Square, so closest to all the great shops and restaurants. It's a fair walk to the financial district and waterfront.
I wanted a reasonably priced hotel in the heart of SanF for 2 nights, after a long transatlantic flight and before transferring to student accommodation. Despite the location, which is very busy and dirty. The hotel was a pleasant surprise. The entry lobby was clean, check-in was not complicated and staff were friendly. Wifi was reliable. My room was small, but had all what I needed in perfect working order. More importantly, it was clean. The bed was super comfortable! However, there was no view and my room was right next to the stairs, so there was occasional foot traffic. These shortcomings didn't bother me because my intention was only to retire to the room. Needless to say, I was very impressed for the price and cried when I moved into my grotty student digs!!

Good Union square location near cable car station

Posted Jul 28, 2015
Good central location for first time San fran tourists. Nice pool in the courtyard. We had one somewhat reasonable rate for one day then the rate went up substantially the following day, due to a "convention in town" even though they were not sold out.

I stayed there because I participated in marathon

The staff was incredible but the plumbing in my bathroom was ancient & needed work. They asked u to conserve but it took nearly four mins for the water to heat in my shower & the tub drain was very slow to drain.

Excellent location for shopping

Posted Jul 27, 2015
This hotel is just off Union Square and ideal for all shops, Macy's just one block away. The Grill Restaurant serves excellent food but does get very busy so book to avoid waiting 30-40 mins for a table. The rooms are very noisy, doors banging all night, maybe we were unfortunate.

excellent location

Posted Jul 26, 2015
Pros: Location
Cons: Update rooms
Location: Lots of shops nearby. Short taxi ride to all the main attractions
Hotel is perfectly adequate if a little dated. One of the 2 lifts was out of order for all 4 days we stayed and the other broke down on 2 occasions (once trapping people for some time).

Wonderful Hotel

Posted Jul 24, 2015
Pros: Location and style
Cons: Nothing!
Location: Shopping, restaurants, art galleries, tourist sights
I had a wonderful stay at the Handlery. It is a beautiful, classic, hotel right on Union Square with easy access to shopping, restaurants, art museums, and sights around town via the cable cars, trolleys, and short walks. If you love beautiful, classic, architecture, then this is the place for you to stay. The staff at the hotel was friendly, jolly, and helpful. I would love to stay here again!
