Travel with EasePosted Nov 20, 2013
Pros: The friendly staff, the location, and also the food!
Location: Alcatraz, bike ride over the golden gate bridge, cable car to Pier 39 and back and dinner at a Diner. ALL IN ONE DAY. Amazing
travelling with a 12 year old and a 18 year on my own could be quite daunting. Especially in a city we have never been in and being on the other side of the globe. But the friendly staff at the Handlery put all my worries at ease and their informative directions were most helpful. We had a short stay but it was action packed and easy.

Sewage backupPosted Nov 17, 2013
Pros: 50 metres from Union Square was good. Rooms quite
Cons: Ensure no toilet flooding
Location: Excellent restaurant - The Cheese Factory - top of Macy's 60 metres away
Sewage Plumbing back-up flooded bathroom but they were quick to fix, so believe its a common problem in this old building. Rooms cramped relative to their rating competitors & room rates. Better options elsewhere for same price we suspect. Location central city good Sept2013.

Small, but comfortablePosted Nov 16, 2013
Pros: Central location, clean and comfortable bed.
Cons: A dresser and second chair in the room.
Location: A lot of shopping, walk to Chinatown, Telegraph Hill, cable cars. We even walked to Fisherman's Wharf, but make sure you wear comfortable shoes.
We stayed at the Handlery for seven nights and overall, it was a good stay. The room was in the historic section of the building and was quite small. There was no dresser and only one chair, which wasn't the most accommodating situation for two people. However, we really didn't spend a lot of time in the room so it wasn't a big deal. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The bathroom, while small, worked for just the two of us. It was very nice having the mini fridge in the room as we were able to buy yogurts and milk for our breakfasts and have cold drinks. It was also nice that they gave us two coffees for the coffee maker instead of just one. We were in one of the inside rooms so we looked out at the windows of other rooms, but it was quiet which made it nice for sleeping. The free wireless also worked well. The central location was also nice as we could walk pretty much anywhere.

ok, I guess...Posted Nov 14, 2013
Pros: location is good. always cabs in front. free wifi.
Cons: nicer rooms.
Location: pretty decent couple of diners 1 block away.
they originally gave a very small, dirty room, with a shower that had zero pressure. I complained. They immediately switch me for a larger, cleaner room, still no pressure (both on the top floor...) but at least, the room itself was fine.

Perfect location and value for moneyPosted Nov 12, 2013
Pros: The location and the staff
Cons: Provision of wired internet
Location: I also did a 2 day bus tour with Deluxe San Francisco tours costing $30 and it covers 4 loops which includes a night tour of the city.
After having read several reviews, I decided to book this hotel. I was really pleased as the location was ideal for Westfield shopping centre, Big bus tours and other tour pick up points near Union Square. As for the facilities in the hotel, you get free wifi which is erratic during peak hours due to several business people using the facility but despite this, I was happy as it was free. I asked for a twin bedroom and this was catered for. The room and the toilet/shower were adequate size. You also get a fridge, coffee maker, hairdryer and ironing board. I found a coin-op laundry nearby and the Powel-Hyde and Powell-Mason cable car stops are nearby. There is a restaurant associated with the hotel but I did not use it. The reception and housekeeping staff at the hotel were very friendly and attentive. The Concierge and the Bell staff are knowledgeable and helpful. I would stay at this hotel again if I were to visit San Francisco in the future. Transport wise, you can get Powell-Hyde and Powell-Mason cable car from Market Street which is near Westfield shopping centre. There can be long queues for the Powell-Hyde cable car as it goes to the top of Lombard Street. You can then come down that street on foot and walk down to Fisherman's wharf and get the F street car to Ferry Building Market and onwards to Market street.
