Great location, friendly staff
Posted Jan 17, 2013
Pros: The themed rooms and the staff
Cons: Noisy at night, no tea/coffee facilities in the room
Location: Excellent
This is a great little hotel in an excellent location. We arrived at Powell st station from the airport and literally had to walk with our suitcases for a minute to reach the hotel, most convenient! The area is close to union square with many shops, diners, bars you really can't go wrong. Also so close to cable cars, buses etc for getting around. I really liked that the hotel was different to the chained hotels, it really has character and a big movie theme. The staff are very friendly and helpful. It is true that there is noise from the street but I think you would find that in a lot of hotels in this area. Take ear plugs and problem solved. There are also many homeless people around, again, unavoidable in San Francisco! But we never felt threatened and they were actually nice people to talk to! I would definitely recommend this hotel to upwind people travelling or couples. Perhaps not so much for families.

Nice Older Hotel, Bad Location
Posted Jan 14, 2013
Pros: I like the old and refurbished hotels in SF. This one is nicely appointed and clean.
Cons: Add air conditioners so you can keep the windows closed to reduce the street noise. Better TV's and reception.
Location: You are near the theater and shopping districts but too close to the Tenderloin.
The hotel was surprisingly nice. However it is located on the border between the Union Square district and the Tenderloin resulting in lots of noise and homeless people on the street (at all hours). The rooms don't have air conditioning, not a big thing in SF but if you want fresh air or if its the middle of summer bring air plugs.

Tenderloin.

A great place to stay if you value the convenience of the hotel's location and your budget is strict. Tenderloin is not the best place in town. The staff is nice and friendly but it cannot compensate for the shortcomings. Definitely not worth the money.

we will be back!

Pros: The location and price can't be beat, clean & comfortable, very little traffic noise.
Cons: Can't think of a least favorite thing,
Location: Just around the corner from a couple BIG hotels, in the middle of SF basically.
Great location & price,REALLY IN THE MIDDLE OF SF. More importantly it will probably become our "go to" place as we live only 2hrs out of SF. Quite sufficient. We will be back!

Could be perfect

Pros: Staff and theme
Cons: bums
Location: in the tenderloin...
Everything was great except location. It is in the Tenderloin which can be rather uncomfortable especially if you are a female. Hotel does have a key entry door to get in which is nice. Shopping and transportation was great and the staff was courteous and helpful, Rooms were clean and comfortable with a nice aesthetic.

Pros: Location and friendly staff
Cons: A lot of begging outside
Although this is not the nicest hotel you could stay at in San Francisco, it probably is for the best value. The rooms are generally nice, the staff are extremely friendly, and the location is superb. It is true that the neighborhood is noisy and there are a lot of homeless, but that is true of almost all of downtown San Francisco so you really can'r fault the hotel.

Clean, funky and cheap. Do not expect the Ritz and realize you best watch your back in this neighborhood. Noisy elevator.

Great for checking out the city.

Pros: Walking distance to many places.
Cons: The tv needed serious help!
Location: The location was great, we walked to The Embarcadero, AT&T ball park, Coit Tower, Fisherman's Wharf.
The hotel was suitable, it has some charming features. The location was great, we walked everywhere. There was some questionable characters hanging around outside. I would have been a little worried if I was alone. The room was kinda small, the tv only got a handful of channels but the bathroom was good sized. There was no air conditioning and the room tended to get stuffy so we opened windows. There was definitely some street noise. The hotel served it's purpose. I would stay again.
