“An incredible value in downtown SF”
This is a cute hotel in the heart of San Francisco, walking distance from Van Ness St., Nob Hill, and Union Square. The rates can't be beat, free wireless, comfortable rooms. It's on the border of a somewhat sketchy neighborhood, but definitely not dangerous. I stay here on every trip to SF and love it!
“wonderful staff, comfortable room, i'll go back”
very cute boutique hotel, with accordingly small but well appointed room. large enough bathroom, large closet, a little small but cozy. free wine and entertainment (funky jazz by one of the employees!) every afternoon and a warm fireplace in the very nice lobby. not too far to walk to the bart station. good restaurants all over the neighborhood, which seemed safe most nights but got a little sketchy on friday night. the staff were super friendly, charming, and very helpful. helped me get a rental car (with a nice discount). i will definitely stay at the carlton whenver i'm in SF.
“Fantastic little hotel with great caring staff”
It's about five to ten minute into town depending how fast you walk. The staff couldn't be more friendly or have a greater sense of humor. There's free wine in the evening and music entertainment from one of the talented staff. Breakfast: either eat at the hotel or wait until you get into town.
“No A/C”
Great hotel for the price I paid. You can't ask for more. I felt safe too and that is very important. The only down side was no A/C, just a ceiling fan. Excellent for cooler months.
“Overall nice hotel with the deal”
It is great once we request to change to a quiet room away from the main door of the hotel. However the wall is thin that you can hear people laughing and talking as if they are right next to you. But I guess it is the common problem of non-expensive hotel in San Fran
“Nice for the price”
the hotel has a very good location. You can walk to Union Square and Market Street, where a lot of shops are. Even the Pier is in walking distance. The hotel offers free wine very afternoon.
“Very satisfied”
First time to San Francisco. Great location. Walking distance to shopping, dining, and night life. Would stay there again. Great value.
“Great San Francisco Hotel Value”
The Carlton proved to be a conveniently located, clean, comfortable hotel. Our room, while not luxurious, was larger than we expected, with a large sleeping area, a modern bathroom, and a separate walk-in closet. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. The wine hour (actually half-hour) was a nice touch, with occasional music performaed by a staff member. It was a great value!
“Very happy with the hotel”
Great location close to a lot of tourist place. Walking distance from the cable car, and the bus. Friendly staff from the check in to the people who work within the hotel are nice. Clean room friendly staff can't complain. They even give you a map and give you suggestion from where to eat to where to go.
“Very Noisy! Paper-Thin Walls!”
Great staff, location in a rapidly-gentrifying part of the Tenderloin, easy to get to sights, clean room -- but the noise is terrible between rooms. The walls are very thin. None of the people in rooms around us were doing anything inappropriate or having parties -- but it's as if they were in the room with us. More of a dorm-like experience than a quiet hotel room. It's a pity, because so much else is admirable about the Carlton. But next time I'll go somewhere where I can sleep!
