Funky Chain Meets MotelPosted Jul 14, 2014
I booked Hotel del Sol because I am fond of the Joie de Vivre brand and had expectations about what the experience would be. It did not meet any of my JDV expectations. However, it was clean, VERY well located, the hotel staff was delightful, they served a very decent (and free) breakfast, and they had parking in a neighborhood with challenging parking. So if that is what you are looking for, it is a great place to stay. First, and importantly, this is not a hotel, it is a Motel. Second, we were frequently disturbed by loud neighbors. Third, I expected something a bit more lux from JDV. Our room was not cheap, but nothing in the area is and that was our challenge. Had I known it was a motel, my expectations may have been more appropriately set.

Breakfest is terrible, only bread, jam and coffee to take away. When I grive back too late, almost can not find a parking place, even I have paid for it. The hotel looks beautiful and funny, my daughter like it very much. In hotel and nearby I can not find reataurant to eat, so do not forgat to eat sth. before coming back.

I would book this room again. The hotel took good care of my group of 12 adults in 6 rooms.

Rode tripPosted Jun 11, 2014
First the ice machine was broken and no plans on getting someone out to fix it. The gentleman at the counter was extremely helpful. But the lady was extremely.rude. The bed where very uncomfortable. It made it hard to sleep.

Slice of America with good locationPosted Jun 7, 2014
Pros: Excellent service.
Location: Eat streets - chestnut and union 2 min walk Fishermans wharf and Cable car 15 min walk Trolley Bus 2 min walk
A true slice of America rather than same old, same old. Refreshed 50's motel with funky vibe. Just don't expect modern hotel room standards as it is an older building although we'll maintained. Staff were excellent providing advice and guidance. Convenient for public transport, excellent food on Union and Chestnut streets and 15 min walk to most tourist spots. We would stay again.

Not great but terriblePosted May 20, 2014
You pay for what you get. Small room with no amenities or air condition. With San Fran being cool you can open the window but the place is loud. No exhaust fan in the tiny rooms bathroom makes it rough when you take a dump. Paper thin walls. The positive was a reasonable price and you are in the Marina District. When we go back we will not stay here again.

Charming, clean, well runPosted May 8, 2014
Stayed here two nights while moving out of SF :-(. A great base of operations, with personality! They were very kind to my old cat. Watch out for those Marina winds, though--the do not disturb sign blew off our door!
