Nice Art Terrible HotelPosted Jul 30, 2015
The location is convenient the art was interesting the rooms where clean. The bed was so uncomfortable and the second bed was a smelly futon that I wouldn't sit on let alone sleep on. The windows did not open and there was no air conditioning. The hotel has the distinct aroma of many years of rodents both dead and alive, to be fair we did not see any rodents. You have to press a buzzer to be let in the hotel and I waited one night for 5 minutes before being admitted inside.

Location, location, and comfortPosted Jul 7, 2015
Pros: The historic details, the art, the pride in itself.
Cons: There are improvements underway - moving the lobby to the 1st floor to expand the breakfast room.
Location: This is a terrific location with easy access to Chinatown, Market Street, restaurants.
Thoroughly enjoyed this edgy, cozy, and well-appointed hotel. Gracious employees and impeccably clean.

Funky Cool PlacePosted Jun 30, 2015
Pros: It's unique and comfortable. Location is great. Secure entrance (you have to buzz in).
Cons: There's a continental breakfast, which is fine for a morning bite. I wish they had coffee available in the lobby all the time rather than just 4 hrs.
Location: There's a great Irish bar, The Irish Bank, right next door. Great for a nightcap.
I loved this hotel! It's old and quirky, and that's the reason I liked it. If you expect a Ritz-Carlton type of experience, move along. This place isn't for you. I have a few "must haves" for hotels. I want a clean room. Clean, as in no bugs and it needs to be spotless. I don't want to feel like I have to wipe everything down with chlorox wipes. My room was spotless. Very clean. The 5 story hotel is old, so expect small rooms. A bed, small desk, fridge, sink (yes, the sink is located next to the bed not in the bathroom), closet and flat screen tv make up the living space. There's not a ton of room to move around, but it's comfortable. The bathroom had a claw foot tub and toilet. We had a view into a non-accessible courtyard thing. It has a fabulous mural type painting. The windows open about 8 inches. There is no air conditioning. With the windows open, you will hear the sounds of the city during the night. It doesn't matter what room you're in. You will hear sirens and garbage trucks. You're in the city at a boutique hotel. Get over it. The lobby is on the 2nd floor. The stairway is very narrow, steep and creaky. There is a cool old scissor gate elevator. We were told it's one of the few working scissor gate elevators in the city. I found it charming. I'm glad they kept it. The hotel is in the financial district. You can catch any type of transportation to take you anywhere in the city. Very easy to get around. The location is excellent!

Excellent locationPosted Jun 25, 2015
Pros: friendliness and cleanliness
Cons: Maybe a little more storage, set of drawers perhaps
Location: Please try the Whale watching that can be booked at Pier 39, excellent day out, well worth money. just 2 mins away from China Town.
Don't be put off by the outer facia, can look a little off-putting. Room was small but adequate for sleeping. Bed very comfortable. Staff couldn't have been more helpful. Didn't bother with the continental breakfast as plenty of eateries in close proximity. 10 mins walk to Union square and 25 mins walk to Fishermans wharf

Funky hotel with an interesting flavourPosted Jun 21, 2015
Hotel Des Arts was a fun experience for a couple twenty something's looking to enjoy San Fran from its downtown core. Rooms are quite small but who spends that much time in their room being in San Francsico? Friendly staff and great location.

Appalling staff, rude and arrogant.Posted Jun 8, 2015
Turned away a Bride and Groom on their wedding night as they had brought friends to help them bring their belongings up to the room. Turned away to find somewhere else to stay at 11.30 pm. Appalling, arrogant staff and extremely unhelpful management. I would avoid this shocking hotel at all costs. The worst customer service I have witnessed in many years.

Cheap but very eclecticPosted May 12, 2015
I guess its cheap for SF, but the rooms are weird and eclectic, which is fine if your into that stuff. If I was a little overweight I would not fit in the shower. It is an old building with weird oddity's, but it is located well to China Town and the Financial district. The room I had was very quiet, which was nice. Breakfast is coffee, juice, and beagles. Go to working girls cafe, its great. Its not quite a dive, but close.

Hôtel très bien situé, au centre de tout.Posted Apr 29, 2015
Pros: Le lit, la décoration.
Cons: Le bruit extérieur ...
Literie exceptionnellement confortable ! La décoration est géniale.
