Great location, friendly staff, and unique SF stayPosted Jul 14, 2014
Pros: Location and price!
Cons: A/C in rooms but that would take away charm
Location: Montgomery Station is closest and convenient to MUNI/BART and the Powell and Hyde cable cars are both easy walking distance.
I usually stay at other boutique hotels in SF, but have always wanted to experience Des Arts and glad I did. Very friendly staff greeted me at check-in and was shocked but smiled when handed my room key (yes, an actual key). From the old elevator, to the decorative hallway walls, and to my painted room, my experience was pleasantly surprising and unique as the city. TIPS: Be sure to as for a room with a private bathroom when booking (unless you don't mind sharing), Montgomery Station is closest and convenient to MUNI/BART, and be sure to ask for a fan at check-in too cool your room.

Art Gallery HotelPosted Jul 5, 2014
Pros: The room, the staff, the art
Location: Near chinatown, the bus and tram line that take you right to Fishermans Wharf, also close to the subway system. Couple of bars in the area
This hotel was like no hotel I have ever stayed in before. It was like sleeping in an art gallery. Perfect location, close to the bus and tram system and there are a few bars in the area to choose from. The hotel is a bit old, but it is renovated. The hotel staff was really nice and knew a lot about the city and where to go.

Cute artsy hotelPosted Jul 3, 2014
Great little room, the hotel wasnt noisy at all. There was a lot of cute art. This hotel is different and was a great experience! We had to share a bathroom on our floor which was always clean and never had a problem waiting to use it. Highly recommend.

Not what I expected!Posted Jul 1, 2014
Pros: The Staff and cleanliness.
Cons: Would have liked it if I could have raised the window a little further up, but I understand security and safety.
Location: Plenty to eat and do around this area.
For the price you could not beat it. The room was extremely clean, the staff was so friendly and nice with each person I dealt with. I had a private bathroom so I didn't have to deal with that sharing part, they left fresh everything each day, the towels smelled so clean and fresh. It was warm in the room at first, but I requested a fan and they brought it and raised the window a little and slept like a baby. The location was perfect, my first time in San Francisco so didn't know much but found it easy to get around.

Excellent location, friendly staff, small roomsPosted Jun 18, 2014
Cons: There was no bedside tables or lights The toilet/bathroom was tiny and opened directly onto the bedroom with no exhaust fan or window. Steamy/smelly
Location: Chinatown Union Square, pretty much everything
Good central location with most tourist attractions or transport very close by

Really great value hotel, nice staffPosted Jun 4, 2014
Pros: Price, Staff, Cleanliness
Hotel was great value, staff were friendly, and room was really clean. The building was older so some cracks and creaky things but that just added to it's charm, who want's to stay in the same hotel everywhere you go like some hotel chains? Art was cool and funky, and i stayed here by myself and i felt safe.

Great location by Union Square & ChinatownPosted Jun 3, 2014
Pros: Hotel des Arts is a older, boutique-style hotel with unique artwork in all the rooms and public areas. The rooms are very clean. Wifi is included.
Cons: The bathroom could use a shelving unit for personal toiletry items. It would be nice if the windows had screens.
Location: The hotel is in a prime location: 1/2 block from Chinatown, 2 blocks from Union Square and close to cable cars, public transit and shopping.
We stayed 7 nights and thought very highly of the hotel due to its close proximity to all the major attractions in San Francisco. The staff was friendly & helpful. The room was very clean and stocked daily with good quality toiletries. Breakfast is included (coffee, tea, orange & apple juice, bagels, cream cheese, jam, toast, cereal bars & apples). The elevators are small and old-fashioned whereby you have to close the sliding gate yourself. Not a problem as we used the stairway most of the time instead. This hotel is a bargain for its ideal location and we would definitely stay here again.

The Hotel des Arts was absolutely fantastic. I cannot think of anything negative to say. The room was beautiful and the staff was very friendly and knowledgeable.
