Very helpful and friendly staff who helped us with anything we needed during our 1-week stay. Gorgeous building, close to Japantown, parks, and transit.

Antiguo hotel

Posted Apr 10, 2015

The OK place to stay to pay the less

Posted Apr 3, 2015
Pros: Via a company that does pick hotel for their tours Viator.
Cons: Add AC to every room and modified to a more modern look while keep preserving some of it old style look.
Location: The location is ok is close to major place you have to walk like 4 to 8 block to get to the union square or cable car but is ok the location.
We I first arrived they game me a room at the top of the building on the fifth floor. The elevators were not working, so I had to walk up the stairs. When I get to the room they gave me the room had really bad odor because they were painting the wall and other areas. The paint is and oil paint, so the smell was really strong. Not only the odor of the paint was bad, but the room had no A/C. The windows had to be open in order to get some air in. Later the floor was uneven, the carpet has never been changed or deep clean since the 1850. Also the was a fire place in front of the bed which until now I don't know why that was there since the room was so hot already. After talking to them at the front desk the moved me down one floor to the fourth floor to a much better room. This one has a wall A/C unit and the layout of the room was much better. However, it was not the best but ok compare to the first one. The whole hotel have a really antique look everything is old style like the 1800 or older. The bathroom was ok, but it was hard to take a shower with the old style porcelain tub which you had to be careful if you will slip and fall. The next day we had breakfast and they charged to much for what we get. The eggs weren't cooked all the way and the Asian lady that served us she had and bad attitude. We stay there because I wasn't on planning on moving to another place since we paid in full already. But to pass the nigh is ok and cheaper than any other place near union square.

Historic Hotel in central location.

Posted Apr 1, 2015
Pros: Apart from location. Not a lot.
Cons: We're would you like me start.
Location: Location great. Everything major in San Francisco is within walking distance or close to the main bus routes.
Have been touring the USA for a month & this is the 5th hotel that I have stayed at in that month in various cities. By far & away the hotel Majestic is the most historical one that I have stayed in & should have been an enjoyable experience. It was'nt, the main reason was that no matter how interesting the building the staff are what make the hotel. In a full weeks stay, not one member staff, in whatever there position greeted me with a 'good morning' or hello. Not the way to run a 'People Business'

You can tell this hotel was a converted mansion. Great history. Great true to period furnishings. I loved it!

Quaint, but room too hot

Posted Mar 22, 2015
Pros: We really liked the morning waitress in the restaurant and the evening bar tender.
Cons: Offer complimentary tea and coffee in the room and lobby. Have extension cords on all outlets. Offer free breakfast like the Queen Anne.
Location: Very central to busses and all tourist attractions.
At first we loved the quaint decor. But after seeing where my brother was staying down the road at the Queen Anne, we realized our hotel was greatly lacking in authenticity. The Queen Anne is similar in price, but way ahead of the Majestic in it's decor and ambiance. While my brother was staying at the Queen Anne, we would go there and enjoy the luxurious sitting room drinking their complimentary tea, playing the piano and just simply enjoying the furniture, paintings and flower arrangements. After my brother left town, we tried going to our hotel to have an evening tea and the concierge informed us that they only had complimentary coffee. No tea!! Note, there was also no coffee or tea available in our room. Our room was unbearably hot during the night. The next morning, we noticed fans by the elevator, so we snagged one. We found that when plugged in it would not reach the window to blow fresh air inside. We phoned the front desk to ask for an extension cord and they said they didn't have one. Later, they did offer to change our room, but we had already unpacked for a weeks stay, so decided to stick it out. On our first morning, we went to the dining room to have breakfast. The menu that was in our room, advertised about half the price as the dining room menu. We asked the concierge about this and he said that we just had an old menu in the room. Later, I noticed the cheaper menu on the back of the dinner menu. Poor organization.

Location: Bus route nearby. Everything worked great. Staff helpful.
Only comment would be no air and it was cool out. The staff informed me there is plans for AC in the future. Large and spacious rooms. Great staff. Loved our stay
