The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. Typical of a Klimpton. The restaurant was under construction. Some rooms are a little cramped. But overall, the room was a pleasant refuge from the frenetic activity outside on Union Square.

Romantic 'staycation"

Posted Nov 10, 2014
As San Francisco natives, we wanted a romantic, elegant and fun night away. The Hotel Monaco is fantastic. The location is of course great. The hotel manages to be both elegant and whimsical and fun. The rooms are pretty small, but their excellent design compensates. Highly recommend.

This hotel is going down hill.

Posted Nov 5, 2014
Pros: Its lobby is beautifully decorated.
Cons: See above
Location: All of the fun things to do around Union Square plus close to Fisherman's Wharf, etc
I understand the hotel is under renovation and I was fine with that. Yet, the carpets are dirty, I mean really dirty, in the hallways, in the rooms. I did get a smaller room this time because all the kings were booked but the only place to sit, except the bed, was the desk seat! Surely, the could have squeezed in a little, comfy chair somewhere? And the hotel room was dirty, probably because in many very obvious areas, it had not been cleaned or dusted in awhile. It made me wonder about what I could not see! Very disappointed. Had been my go-to hotel for a long time......

Excellent hotel close to Union square.

Posted Nov 3, 2014
Pros: Stylish, great service, excellent location.
Cons: Once the retaurant is open again, room service would be an asset.
Location: The tram is close. Union square is only blocks away and John Foleys Irish pub has a dueling piano bar on the lower level. That was a blast!
The hotel itself was very cozy. Both lobbies were very inviting. The staff was polite and helpful. The decor was stylish as well.

Excellent hotel; great location

Posted Oct 28, 2014
Pros: Location; friendliness of staff; comfort of room
Location: Lots of good restaurants nearby; convenient to BART Powell Station
Excellent hotel with terrific front desk staff (John in particular). Stay marred only by noisy adjacent room.

Close to Union Square

Posted Oct 21, 2014
Don't arrive after too late, it's hard trying to figure out parking an the valet was not in the front at night. I had to call to get parking info.; plus they charge almost $70 every time they valet the car. Location is great if you have to be near Union Square, other than that too many homeless walking around - especially at night. Other than that, the experience was good.

Yes, our valet parking is expensive. It is $52/night + tax for a standard size vehicle and $67 + tax (gulp)/night for an oversized vehicle. We are always happy to recommend other parking options which may be less expensive.

Beautiful hotel in a great location

Posted Oct 20, 2014
We loved our stay here. The hotel is very close to union square and the Powell street Bart station...very convenient. It is beautifully designed, clean, and comfortable. The staff were friendly and very helpful. I will definitely be staying in a Kimpton hotel again in the future.

Great Stay!

Posted Oct 13, 2014
Pros: The location is great and the staff were very friendly.
Location: Hotel Monaco is just a couple of blocks from Union Square, shopping, restaurants, and public transportation.
My husband and I spent a week at Hotel Monaco. We found the location convenient and the hotel in general comfortable and quiet. The room was clean and spacious (as SF hotel rooms go) with a nice sized television. We both thought the bed was a little hard, but I loved the down pillows. The fridge didn't seem to work but that wasn't a big deal. We just used the ice machine. My husband didn't care for the pocket door in the bathroom. Also, we were on the second floor and there was some noise from the renovations taking place below in the restaurant. We were given coupons for a pastry and beverage each day of our stay, but found we didn't actually use them due to the hours we kept. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would stay here again.

Thank you for taking the time to write such a thorough review. I hope other potential guests appreciate that. Sorry to hear your fridge was not working. It absolutely should have been. And I wish I knew why your husband did not like the pocket door. Overall, we are happy to hear you enjoyed your stay. We are looking forward to the renovation of the restaurant to be completed.

Overall good experience

Posted Sep 26, 2014
Pros: beds, fluffy pillows and the big bathroom.
Cons: tea/coffee making facilities in the room perhaps?
Location: location is just a block or two from union square so it's great and there's a convenience store that opens till midnight everyday.
Was a little too expensive for my liking but hotel room is super nice. beds are comfy, bathroom is huge which i love. a big bath tub and a shower. Coming from Asia, hotels there always have tea/coffee making facilities and complimentary tea bags and coffee in the room so that's lacking here but it's mostly something most American hotels lack anyway. The good thing is you can call the front desk to bring you items like a hair curling iron and bedroom slippers which I did and they promptly brought them to my room.
