Hippy chicPosted Nov 11, 2014
Artsy. Old. Small room. Window AC had no control except unplugging it. Close to bus, etc. Wouldn't go again.

Great Boutique Hotel close to Union SquarePosted Nov 11, 2014
Wonderful decor, service impeccable. Food very tasty, small menu but awesome. Rooms very nice for city boutique hotel. Within walking distance of nearly everything! Hotel management sent a bottle of wine to out room!

Quick overnight getawayPosted Nov 10, 2014
Pros: Staff Location Vibe
Location: Great location. Close to Union Square. Definite SF experience. Starbucks on the corner.
My wife and I planned a quick overnight getaway to the city and wanted to stay close to Union Square but something less mainstream. We had a wonderful time at Hotel Rex. Great vibe to the hotel and the staff was awesome. Everyone we talked with was very friendly, accommodating, and on point. The downstairs common area is set up like an old reading room and wine, live music, and comfortable chairs were happening Friday night. The room was small but suitable, very clean, well maintained, and great for one evening. Location of the hotel is great being two blocks from Union Square but far enough away to avoid the massive weekend crowds. It's close to shopping and fun dining (Lori's Diner). Starbucks is on the corner. My wife and I both thought that because of the hotel's vibe and friendly staff, the overall atmosphere was great, including other guests.

Central locationPosted Oct 11, 2014
Pros: It was fine.
Cons: Get some Ice machines!
Location: Close to Union Square, a few blocks from entrance to Chinatown.
A Fine place to stay in a very expensive town. The bathroom was quite small and makeup and shaving gear had to be shuffled around. And they had no ice machine in the entire hotel. Had to order from room service! Not easy to make a quick drink before going out!

Comfy hotel close to everything we neededPosted Oct 7, 2014
Pros: The staff was wonderful and the location was great.
Cons: The mattress was a bit lumpy but I never sleep well away from home anyway.
Location: The hotel was close to the Union Square shopping centres and there were too many restaurants to choose from during our short stay (Oh darn!)
We were pleasantly surprised at how close the hotel was to everything we wanted to do and see...food shopping and sightseeing. The front desk staff was very accommodating since our flight was delayed and we were over 3 hours late checking in. The room was on the smaller side but since we didn't spend much time in our room it was perfect for us. We loved the duvets and the cleanliness of everything.

Great vibePosted Sep 16, 2014
Pros: Location and charm.
Location: Union Square!
I have stayed here many times over the years. It's a great location and exudes San Francisco Old World charm. Wonderful eclectic furnishings but it's time to recover or replace.

Old-school HotelPosted Sep 4, 2014
Pros: Great front desk staff, friendly bartenders, relaxing atmosphere, great location, near-perfect bed mattress, good a.m. coffee
Cons: Old hotel with sloping floors, old windows, small low-speed elevator, etc. But upgrading this hotel would kill the charm.
Location: Just off Union Square. Everything in SF is at your disposal.
Smooth check-in. Got an upper floor room facing the rear since we asked for a least-noise location. Room was of adequate size. We were especially pleased with the comfort of the bed/mattress. Overall feel of the Rex is relaxed and contemplative.

No AC - very hot, especially in top floor room.Posted Sep 2, 2014
Pros: Location is ok.
Cons: Air conditioning (even window units) would help.
Experienced the top floor of the Rex last week. The city was warm, but not hot - and the nights were cool outside. Nevertheless my room was uncomfortably HOT - must have been 90 degrees in the room, and the window opens only a few inches (it has blockers to prevent it from opening more). And the room fan does almost nothing but stir around the warm air. That... plus that old "musty" smell of an older property - and you have a recipe for a most uncomfortable night. Sorry - not going back.

Nice hotel in the cityPosted Aug 26, 2014
Friendly staff, from the hotel you can walk any directions, city for shopping, china town, Italian street, boulevard. Also enough transportation like busses, tram, cable car.
