“Good location”
small, but comfortable. Watchout for those asian-style platform beds. My shins took a beating on those corners! Also, be sure to ask about the A/C. It wasn't working while I was there (12/4/11 to 12/7/11). While it wasn't hot in San Fran, the room does get stuffy/uncomfortable overnight. I had to ask for a fan. Seems like the A/C issue is an ongoing one, as I recall reading earlier reviews with the same complaint. Overall, the hotel served its purpose. Local area is quiet and safe. Very close to the Fillmore.
“Good hotel”
Temperature controls in the room did not work.
“Funky hotel”
The Hotel Tomo is a funky little place - perfect for a comfy stay. I really liked the Anime decor. The staff was really nice. The on-site cafe was decently priced, and the coffee was really good first thing in the morning. I'm not a typical "American breakfast" eater, so the Mums cafe was a reasonably priced choice for breakfast. The hotel is located across the street from many good Japanese restaurants as well, and conveniently located on the bus route. I'd stay here again!
“Great location for shows at the Fillmore”
Had a great night with the wife, dinner at the shabu-shabu place in the restaurant, walked to the Fillmore for a live show, and walked back to a comfortable, clean, fun room. Worth the money for the a fun night out.
“Very Disappointed”
We had booked a 5 day stay at this hotel Thru Expedia for my husband's birthday. We arrived on Friday. We had problems with the air conditioner in the room. You had to use your room key to turn on the AC. The front desk sent a maintenance man to our room to fix the AC. He fixed the AC and the front desk sent a fan to our room. The window in the room understandably only opens about 6 inches because we were on the 3rd floor without a balcony. On Sunday we returned to the hotel in the evening. The AC was broken. I woke up around 2 am hot. On Monday am I called the front desk reporting that our AC didn't work. I was told that the whole hotel AC was broken and they didn't know when it would be fixed. I asked to be transferred to the manager. I was transferred to voicemails each time I tried to talk to someone. I finally called Expedia to resolve the problem. Expedia was extremely helpful. Expedia called the hotel to resolve the problem. The hotel agreed to cancel our remaining reservation. Expedia booked us into another hotel. The hotel manager apologized stating that she was in a meeting earlier when I tried to call. When we checked out, the front desk was checking in customers. They told them the AC was broken. They had put them on the side of the hotel that the air flow would keep their room cool. My disappointement was that Expedia had to resolve the problem. The hotel staff was not helpful.
“Don't believe what they advertise on the website”
I had very bad experience with this hotel which I would rather call a motel. It is old, uncomfortable, staff is not very helpful and it costs way too much for the service they offer. The website is very misleading, be aware of that. I will never stay there again.
“Comfortable but not close to City's main tourist places.”
The front desk staff was cordial. The hotel is located across the street from the Japan Center, but it is not convenient if you wish to walk to the center of the City or go to main City tourits places. We spent a lot of money in taxis, going back and forth. The hotel in general is clean and has a restaurant on the premises. The room was clean, except for the carpet and the bed cover. (They need to wash those carpets and replace the bed covers). The room was at the street level and you could hear and see people and cars going by. The housekeeping staff gets in early in the morning, around 7 AM and that is the end of your good night sleep. They engage in loud and personal conversations and constantly slamp doors. The price per room was good but I rather pay more the next time and be more comfortable.
“Funky beds in Japan town”
comfortable rooms, short cab ride from Union Sq
“very convenient”
I checked in to the hotel around midnight without any trouble. It was a huge help after a long day. Room was clean and bed was comfortable. Had a Japanese style breakfast nest morning at the restaurant in the hotel. Food was good but VERY expensive.
“Carpets should be clean.”
Carpet in the room was very dirty. But overall staff was accomodating.
