Nice but basic room does not have natural light

Hotel was surprisingly nice as we were expecting a budget hotel. Common areas and rooms are well designed and have an upscale bouticy feel. I had issues with the fact that our room did not receive any natural light so it was impossible to know if the sun had risen. I felt like in a dungeon. My partner did not have any issues with this. My suggestion, don't get the most basic room.

This building dates back from 1907 and we do have some rooms that might seem odd to the 21st century traveler. We also do have more regular rooms with a lot of sunlight. Great hotel close to everything.

Booked hotel because it was close to the Powell Station, BART. The staff allowed us to leave our carrying on bags before we checked in and after we checked out. Very nice staff and great location for people that want to experience Union Square.

Pros: Great Location
Cons: Room was tiny. Modern cheap furniture in an old building with not much decor
Location: Union Square is right around the corner
My Deluxe Queen room felt like it was the size of an airplane bathroom.

Great location for first-time visitors!

I arrived very late due to delayed flight. I called the front desk to let them know I'll be late for my check-in. I finally arrived after midnight and checked in without any issues. It's located right opposite to Walgreens which is convenient to buy food or drinks when nothing else was opened.

Stayed in the "no frills" room which was just that, a bed and four walls. It was a great option for me in that I was only in my hotel room to sleep. Had it been necessary for my to spend more time in the room, the lack of space would have been an issue. I would recommend this for travelers that are merely looking for a place to keep their belongings safe during the day and a place to rest their heads at night. Heads up it appears a lot of guests stay at this hotel due to the proximity of night life, so there is drunken clattering throughout the night.

Dear Guest, I agree "no frills" rooms are small and I think their name was picked in that regard. being in the heart of Union Square sometime means that there is noise outside at night, for our guests who need peace and quiet we do have some rooms facing an inner courtyard. Little more worn than the pictures

Concierge was very friendly, front desk woman not so much. Hotel is rather old and despite the upkept image in the photos the hallway carpets are rather dirty. I booked a queen bed room as I saw other reviewers commented about how small the standard rooms were, but this was also very small. Room cleanliness was decent despite the hallways looking rather bleek.

Food near by ,Walgreens across the street. need good legs for that city ,hotel old but basic. Staff very helpful. bring money!!!

Perfect location at Union Square. Cable car right outside. Walking distance to AT&T Park.
