Great Hub

Posted Jul 5, 2015
Historic hotel in the heart of SF. Close to everything! I love it! Lobby is beautiful especially the large columns and elegant looking chandeliers! Besides logistics, The carpet stinks and the ac does not work.

Gloomy

Posted Jul 4, 2015
Hotel has a gloomy tower of terror look to it. Sketch neighborhood and valet parking is ridiculous.

Tentative Neighborhood

Posted Jul 4, 2015
Pros: The Starbucks may come in handy.
Cons: Security outside the hotel's main entrance needs to be enhanced.
Location: The world famous San Francisco Symphony and Opera play just two blocks away.
This is an old historic hotel. Lots of rooms but nothing extra special. Few perks, if any, except maybe if you're with a tour group. Large lobby and there's fee parking available behind the building. The adjoining restaurant and bar can be pricey. Starbucks anchors the east end front. Opera, Symphony, the Orpheum, the Civic, and City Hall are very close. Rooms are fine; ceilings are high. Housekeeping is good and efficient. If you plan on sleeping in, hang the do not disturb sign on the door. No fridge, microwave, or coffee maker in my room. But there was an ice bucket. Vending was by the elevator. Wi-Fi worked O.K. but the business center computer and printer come with a charge. Biggest downside is the neighborhood. During the day an open air drug market runs unfettered across the way. Because of this, many guests seemed to take a cab out of the area rather than walk. Even for nearby venues. But the metro stops at the door. Find exit B1 for the best access. Also, you can use this metro entry to cross Market Street without dodging the city traffic. If you return late night, don't forget your room key. Security guards block the elevators to non-guests.

Convenient but not comfortable

Posted Jul 2, 2015
Pros: Convenient to transport
Cons: Better beds
Location: Close to the public library, city hall, opera house
The hotel building is quite old but they have made efforts to update things including desks with additional three prong outlets. The air in the room was musty and the bed overly saggy in the middle. The blackout curtains were much appreciated and although everything was old, all the plumbing and electrical seemed to work just fine. Overall not a bad hotel but not a great one either. The location is very close to the BART Civic Center stop and conveniently located along the F train line. Overall there is a large homeless population in the downtown area so it's hard to avoid being approached constantly.

Lots of character

Posted Jul 2, 2015
Pros: Love the turn-of-the-century décor.
Loved the ornate finishes in the lobby! Great location near the theater, downtown, easy access to the trolley to get to the wharf. Unfortunately downtown SF has a huge homeless population and they tend to clog up Market street in the evening, making it feel less safe to walk around. We were not bothered for the most part, but some disturbing behavior cannot be unseen.

Not so nice

Posted Jul 1, 2015
The hotel staff was horrible and rude. Do not stay here unless you like getting ripped off. They charged me for a night I did not even stay and refused to give me a refund. They are thieves and I will never give them my money again.

Nice vintage archetecture and grand lobby

Posted Jun 30, 2015
Pros: The location and the archeteture
Cons: The room decor could be spruced up a bit and the infrastucture of the rooms could work better. In addition to the faulty VOD we had a dripping faucet.
Location: Right across the street from the Orpheum Theater. Close to City Hall.
Nice Heritage Hotel in a very convenient spot for the Orpheum Theater where a lot of the touring Broadway musicals play. The decor in the rooms is a bit bland and the VOD didn't work until a technician came to the room.

Prime location for pride. The only thing was the parking. It's around $40 for parking.
