Pros: It was clean.
It was like a step back in time with the decor. I thought it was very glamorous.

It's just OK.

Posted Jan 27, 2015
Pros: It was accommodating despite other hotels were sold out or too expensive.
Cons: Water pressure was terrible.
Location: taxi to south beach and SOMA
Elevators did not work to our floor upon arrival. Appears was fixed during stay

In a shady area of town. Zero water pressure in shower. Broke my bag when it was in storage.

Horrible experience!

This Hotel is in horrible condition. Everything is so outdated it's even hard to describe. Yeah, they caught me on that too - "historical hotel". It is, but the problem is it never saw a renovatin from that "historical time." I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Old hotel, feels it.

Posted Jan 26, 2015
This hotel was built in 1912. It most likely got refurbished in the 60's or 70's, and outside of the flat screen TV, not much else has changed. Floors that creek, carpet that is in desperate need of a update, lighting that flickers. Walking to your room at the end of a long hall late at night makes you feel like Jack Nicholson may jump out with an ax at any point re:The Shining. It's a creepy hotel. Lots of homeless in the area just outside too. Made me sad, but coming home after hours also made me have to be all that much more alert. Not a great area. The sheets were clean, (i hope), the shower kind of worked (more like a trickle of water). And they did have a nice TV which kept my eyes on that rather then the random holes in the walls around the room. Look, I've stayed in a lot worse, and it was good enough if the price works for you. But you aren't going to be wanting to kick your shoes off and relax, you aren't going to want to hang in the lobby or have friends come meet you, you aren't going to want to do anything but drop your bags and get outside. My advice: skip this hotel. If money is tight, Stay at a holiday inn express (not the fanciest of places but clean and feels it). If money isn't an issue, there are dozens of other options in the city. Let me tell you one other part of my trip: I had some downtime between meetings, I ended up walking over to the JW Marriott to hang out and read in their lobby, just so I didn't have to go back to the whitcomb.

2 hotels in one

Posted Jan 26, 2015
Pros: suite was nice
Cons: its run down old and dirty area
Location: great location in the heart of city
Suites are fine , you must request a renovated room.. Only choose this place at last resort... If your looking for a 100% enjoyable exp .. not the place ..all the money was put into the lobby ..do not let the pictures fool ya

Business Trip

Pros: I personally like older hotels and their historic significance.
Cons: In room coffee would have been nice. Better lit hallways. Housekeeping needs to knock before walking in (happened twice to me).
Was at an industry event at the Moscone Center and needed someplace nearby. The Whitcomb is an old hotel but they've kept up reasonably well. A mile from the events translated to about a 20 minute walk or $12 Uber fare. It was convenient, had an attached Starbucks and cost about half as much as a larger, closer chain.

Very nice hotel - no help for item left in room

Posted Jan 26, 2015
Pros: Decor
Cons: A responsive housekeeping and lost and found that return phone calls
Location: Not a nice area.
This hotel is nice and is well restored however it is not anywhere near good restaurants, neighborhood on this part of Market Street is at best scary. I have been unable to get any help retrieving a watch left in the bathroom early checkout Friday morning. It was in a glass on the sink. I started calling the afternoon (12:15 the hotel time when I landed in NY ) of my checkout and after several calls got to lost and found and was told they would check and have been calling over the weekend and into Monday. There are no safes in the room. The watch was a gift from my children.
