“Marriott Value as Promised”

Everyrhing about this property was top-notch-location, spacious room, lovely bathroom and fabulous lobby. We were traveling with friends and especially appreciated the seating and attractive decor in the common areas. Close to Union Square.

“Fantastic location. Great service. Nice property!”

Everything you expect from a Marriot. This was our 2nd time staying there and you can't beat the location. Within walking distance of everything you want to see, do and eat! Clean, quiet and nice upgrades from the regular Marriotts.

“Great Hotel & Great Location”

I stayed at the hotel for one night and was very impressed. The service was great, the room was great, and the location was awesome. There were tons of nice shops and restaurants within walking distance. I will definitely stay again.

“San Francisco Layover”

Stayed at the JW Marriott for one night before catching a flight out the next day. The hotel was superbly located with lots of restaurants and shops in the neighborhood. It's also quite close to the Moscone center where a lot of conferences and conventions take place. Definitely well recommended.

“Would be hard pressed to return”

The hotel was perfectly "nice", perfectly "clean", but pretty dated-- rooms felt very circa 1986. Major issue for me, since I went to the hotel to settle in and work for three days: the food was truly horrible. Extremely limited in-room menu, and what was on it was close to inedible. And very overpriced. I ended up heading to the Ferry Building farmer's market, shopping, hauling it back to the room to have something decent at hand to eat. By the end of the second day, couldn't wait to check out.

Area recommendations

Embarcadero. It's a bit off the Union Square crush of tourists and riff raff, on the water, great BART links, shops, etc. I usually stay at Hotel Vitale, but it was booked.

“Impressive Hotel! Best value for money! Highly Recommended!”

Excellent service! Excellent ambience! Great value for money. Centrally located - close to many good shops, restaurants, and the beachfront. We stayed for six days and loved every minute of our stay. Spacious rooms and very good housekeeping. They have a push button service (literally in the room there is a button to press) to receive anything you want. They charge $12.95 per day for the Internet in the room, but you could use the business center or the lobby for free wireless service; you could also go to a few places nearby (Starbucks cafe and a few other cafes that provide free WiFi. We used Hertz for car rental on specific days. Booked the previous day through the concierge. They bring the car to the hotel and you may return the car by the end of the day (up to 10pm) at a Hertz location just one block from the hotel. You may avoid the car parking/garage charges of $40-55 per day/night in the area hotels. Hertz charges are reasonable - e.g., $40-60 per day depending on the size of car you want with GPS/NeverLost system. Very convenient! JW Marriott has a great restaurant - $18 for buffet or a la carte breakfast. A full bar with a great ambience. The elevators have glass outer so you can see the hotel rooms and the lobby - somewhat like the Embassy Suites. Recommend Kokkari Restaurant - the best Greek restaurant in the US, which is just a couple of miles from the hotel; walking distance.

“Nice Hotel - would stay there again”

Spent 7 days in early June. Requested upper floor room to avoid street noise and received a room with a great view looking west - no tall buildings to obstruct view. Room was clean and staff were very accommodating. Hotel is one block from Union Square with fine dining and shopping within easy walking distance. Took public transit for Fishermans Wharf and other areas - very efficient system. One complaint though - on check in I inquired about the Visa gift card promotion advertised on Marriott website (you receive a $50 visa gift card when paying with a Visa card). Desk staff was not familiar with it and promised to get back to me, but never did. Somewhat disappointing in a hotel that prides itself on service. I forgot to bring it up again on checkout. Otherwise a very pleasant stay.
