Great staff, good location, a little wornPosted Feb 13, 2014
Pros: Location and staff
Cons: Speed up those renovations
Location: Two blocks from Union Square, three blocks downhill to Powell Street transit connections, and close to Geary Street for buses across town.
Location is ideal for out of towners, and the staff were very helpful and seemed genuinely friendly. The addition of a free minifridge was an unexpected plus. The room (Queen) was small and dated, though they are renovating the floors below to fresh it up. There was an old musty smell in the "clothes closet" which was off-putting. The room was doused by housekeeping with air freshener every day which masked the smell, but was cloying at the same time. Kept the windows open all the time, which was ok in Feb but would have been too noisy in the summer. Will definitely go back, though will ask for a renovated room next time.

Boutique Hotel Close to Union SquarePosted Feb 5, 2014
Cons: Better pillows.
Location: The hotel is half a block from the ACT and Curran theaters and two blocks from Union Square.
The hotel is undergoing renovations right now. Unfortunately, there was no water available on any floors except the first floor for a number of hours. Once water was restored to part of the building the hotel staff were able to move us to another floor that had water so we could flush the toilet, brush our teeth, take showers, etc. We have stayed here before and really like the convenient location and the fact that the rooms are always very clean. We would stay here again once the renovations are complete.

Great location for budget hotelPosted Feb 3, 2014
The hotel was in a great location. Easy to find for a first time visitor and completely transit accessible. It's easily walkable to many tourist attractions including the cable car, the ferry terminal and chinatown. My room was small but comfortable and clean. The decor had a very classic feel which was in keeping with the heritage of the building. At the time, the 1st and 2nd floors were under some renovation so the staff made a point of giving me a room as far away as possible which was much appreciated. Don't expect anything too fancy but it's certainly a great hotel for the budget price.

Location: Nob Hill. Market SQ, Fisherman's Wharf and Pier 39 (20 minute walk). China Town & Little Italy.
Hotel is under renovation. It is located within walking distance of most key tourist destinations. Staff is very friendly. Rooms are small, and walls do not block noise.

Nice hotel with great city locationPosted Jan 28, 2014
The staff was very friendly and helpful with our public transportation issues. The room was nice and comfortable, though a little on the small side. The location is wonderful for food and shopping and bars, just don't go too far west at night. The lounge happy hour is also nice. It has a very historic feel. We were very happy with it.

Ok for the price near union squarePosted Jan 3, 2014
Cons: More hot water and smarter concierges.
Location: Enough said.
Would have been better if there was enough hot water. Not fun to end a shower with a luke warm rinse. Make sure you rinse the shampoo and conditioner out early on! Concierge was not too helpful on New Year's Eve. We asked him where the action was and he sent us to an area that was closed up tight for the night. What a waste and too late to retrace our steps. We were bummed. Overall if you need a reasonably priced place in the heart of the city, like the old-fashioned quaint decor, know where you are going, and only take quick showers, the King George is ok.
