Friendly staff, small rooms, kinda shabby.

Posted Apr 14, 2014
The check-in process was rather simple and pleasant. The front desk staff were welcoming and friendly. unfortunately, their smiling facies could not make up for the small rooms, shabby decor, and the run down appearance of the rooms. I will not stay here again until after the renovations (according to a sign in the lobby, the renovations are schedule for 2015).

Very Nice

Union Square isn't my favorite place to stay because of its tourist-y aspect but we found this hotel fairly cheap and thought it had a cute/rustic look to it. The staff was amazingly friendly and super accommodating, giving us a room that faced a quieter street and matching our rate for a second night. Yes, the hotel is old but they ARE renovating it. Despite that the building is old they managed to make it very clean and supply you with a modern enough feel. Overall, very satisfied with my stay.

Very good location for a short stay tourist.

Posted Apr 8, 2014
Pros: Location and comfort
Cons: To improve sound insulation to cut constant noise from street and neighbourhood.
Location: All places of tourist interest in SFO are easily reachable. We could easily take the MUNI buses and cable tram from here making it economical and safe
The surroundings and continuous traffic makes the hotel very noisy. I wish they put double insulated windows in the rooms to cut the nuisance. Except this serious problem, we found the hotel OK. pmmathur

Decent but older hotel in good location

Posted Apr 3, 2014
Pros: Good value
Location: Union Square is close to shopping and restaurants. The BART, MUNI and cable car transit systems are all within a three block walk.
The King George is an older hotel near Union Square. It offers good value for money and is clean. They are currently renovating it floor by floor, but we heard no noise.

Perfect location!

Posted Mar 31, 2014
Just outside the front door and around the corner and you are in the heart of Union Square. We also went to a musical at the Orpheum and took the BART to avoid the hassle of parking. The station was a short walk from the hotel with lots of people out and about making it feel very safe even late at night when we were returning. The hotel was a great find with reasonable rates and a great staff!

Excellent way to experience the past.

Posted Mar 18, 2014
Pros: The historical significance of place. The friendly staff and clean rooms.
Cons: The bath tub in the room has a corner that should be altered so that a person does not bump their knees.
Location: The location is near a parking structure, liquor store, 24 hour dinner and Union Square.
I thought the price was right and so I booked a room after reviewing pictures and comments. The place was built in 1914 and is a designated "soldiers quarters" for those headed to the Pacific Theatre of war. If you want to get a feel for what it was like to be someone headed out not knowing their fate, stay here. The rooms are small but adequate for an overnight stay with a historical conversation point.

For the price, pretty nice

The room was really small but then again, it's pretty much the reality of downtown San Francisco. Besides that, everyone was friendly and very helpful. I was there with a friend and we both had a single bed which was ok. We're pretty happy of the price we paid and what we got but it's definetly not an "over the top hotel".
