A beautiful B&B with an inspiring atmosphere, great attention to detail, just a fantastic ambiance all around. I really enjoyed my stay and the free street parking was an added bonus.

CozyPosted Jun 20, 2014
This cozy B and B offers old charm in an updated fashion. Although our room was too warm and the tv didn't get reception, we'd stay again. There is a sitting room that has a flat screen tv so we could watch there. Breakfast was great. Quiche and eggs with sourdough toast on request. Comfy bed.

Unexpected Find!Posted May 3, 2014
Pros: The wonderfully remodeled bathroom in an historical B&B was great. The staff make this special. Not all B&Bs offer a parlor as comfortable as this.
Cons: It would be nice to have a temporary parking sticker.
Our daughter made the reservations, so we came to the Monte Cristo Inn not knowing much about it. We were delighted. Our room was comfortable, newly remodeled in the historical period of the building. We loved sitting in the parlor in the afternoon enjoying a cup of coffee and a cookie, The breakfast offered quite an array of options, of which all were great. Jack and Terry made us feel very welcome. The only downside is since the Inn is in the center of San Francisco, parking was hard to find. We'll definitely stay here again!

Good value & locationPosted Apr 27, 2014
A very nice b&b in a restored boarding house, with beautiful wood floors and a homey feel. The breakfast was excellent and the staff very helpful and accommodating. The rooms are cozy and well-furnished, and the bathrooms were restored recently with nice modern fixtures.

Leaves me wanting more, but somewhere elsePosted Jan 15, 2014
Pros: Location. Small size.
Cons: Internet speed.
We chose the Monte Cristo because of its proximity to family, and for that it was a good fit. The B&B is initially pleasing but after a few nights it is repetitive. The breakfast is tastefully presented and has lots of healthy options but seems to be opened from packaged products and put in trendy bowls. You can order eggs and such from the kitchen but that seems to be the extent of the on-site preparation. The coffee is from a pump pot but is piping hot and very tasty. The woman in charge on site is incredibly kind and accommodating. She was the bright star of the stay. The house is noisy, especially if you get the room under the stairs. The rooms have nice antique-looking furniture but less furniture would be better as it would give more room in the room. The bathroom has a bidet-like toilet seat add-on to wash your bottom. Novel, at least for us, and another feature we don't really need. The biggest disappointment was the Internet service. Wireless access is free, but you get what you pay for. The signal was weak and download speeds so slow as to be almost useless. Had to unplug the phone as it began emitting strange beeps and such. We think it was channeled through the cable for the TV and was affected by that. All-in-all we would probably try another B&B next time, at least to have a comparison.

Great neighborhood, great roomsPosted Jan 14, 2014
Pros: Nicely appointed room. And it was quiet -- I couldn't hear the other guests and street noise was just barely audible; I slept like a log.
Location: If your budget allows, I recommend a dinner at Garibaldi's (american cuisine) just a few blocks away on Presidio.
Nice old building with modern facilities. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Breakfast was tasty. Bathrooms were fully up to date (great shower head, super modern toilet). Fast WiFi with no device restrictions. I loved walking around the neighborhoods in the area.

Our suite was a perfect combination of 19th century antique bedroom decor with state-of-the-art bathroom fixtures. The included breakfasts offered a wide range of tasty food, including fresh melon, berries and pineapple and custom-cooked eggs. Jack, Terry and Carl couldn't have been nicer. Will return often.
