Great Reasonable SF Hotel Near Union SquarePosted Mar 1, 2014
Pros: small hotel feel, very friendly and helpful staff both morning and night. I don't know how old this hotel is but it seems very fresh and new.
Cons: It had everything we needed except first run movies on the TV. They do have some dated DVDs you can borrow but not much you'd want to see. minor
Location: As I said above it is pretty much close to everything. Definitely within walking distance for Union Square, chinatown, nob hill, Market Street etc.
The Orchard Hotel was a very pleasant surprise. The location is very good. Just a couple of blocks up from Union Square on Bush between Powell and Pine. An easy walk up the hill two blocks to the Mark and Fairmont if you want to go for a nice drink. Chinatown is totally within walking distance and it's really just a fifteen minute walk down to Market Street and Nordstrom and all the other shops in an amazing shopping center. The hotel itself is very nice. It's comfortable, clean and feels very up to date. The double room we had was very spacious and pleasant. The service was great and the staff very friendly and helpful and nothing intimidating as in the higher end hotels. Our experience at the orchard was great and if you go at a time when there are no conventions the price is rally great. $279 per night. We would definitely stay there again.

nice hotel close to everythingPosted Feb 17, 2014
Cons: I think first thing in the morning, coffee should be free for hotel guests.
Location: Buy a muni pass and you can go anywhere from this location
Everybody took such good care of us. The staff was pleasant and went out of their way to help with directions and anything else we wanted.

Very good, well-priced, centrally-located hotelPosted Feb 10, 2014
Pros: See above.
Cons: The only petty annoyance we had was having to log in every time we wanted to avail ourselves of the free wifi.
Location: See above.
The Orchard is a good, centrally-located four-star hotel at a reasonable price. The staff are friendly, helpful and respectful. We especially appreciated Cornell's assistance, both before we arrived and during our stay. The rooms are attractive and comfortable. The location is excellent. It's only about 10 m down from the corner of Bush and Powell Streets. Walk down Powell and you are at Union Square in a few minutes and the cable car terminus at Market Street in five to 10 minutes. Going the other way on Powell (a steep uphill climb!), you're at Nob Hill after just two blocks. Chinatown is about three blocks down Bush. My wife and I also walked from the hotel to the Bay, Fisherman's Wharf, Ghiradelli Square, Coit Tower, Lombard Street and other places of interest on a number of occasions. However, those trips take more time and may be difficult if one is not especially fit (San Fran is very hilly). All in all, we had a really great time in San Francisco and were glad of our accommodation at the Orchard.

Awesome Location with characterPosted Feb 6, 2014
Pros: Location, character, size of room.
Location: Hop on hop off bus Alcatraz Fishermans wharf Gold Gate bridge - we walked there and back - it was awesome.
Loved this hotel but I must admit that San Francisco was my favourite place that we visited on this trip - such a pretty city. I thought it was a little bit dated when I first arrived but I ended up loving it - character I call it. Room was a great size, bathroom was great, comfy bed - it was all good. Parking was expensive - we only had it for one night because we arrived late, You don't need a car in San fran. Use the hop on hop off bus - awesome!!! Location of hotel was unreal although take your walking shoes with all those hills - great exercise! Restaurants everywhere, we didn't eat in the hotel but an awesome cafe just on the corner - literally steps away. I highly recommend this hotel.

Small hotel tucked into great downtown locationPosted Feb 2, 2014
Location: Around corner from great restaurants, cable car and shopping. Because the city is so compact, a real kaleidoscope of interesting people everywhere!
Very good location within walking distance of everything downtown. Friendly, very helpful and courteous staff. Big quiet rooms with all the amenities. Very good value for money!
