“nice old fashioned hotel”
very nice hotel, clean with old style charm and well maintained walking distance to Union square, shopping and cable car. Evening session with wine and cake was great and met a few interesting people then. Definitely would stay here again
“Great Location but needs upgrade”
I have had the pleasure of staying in this hotel several years ago and it seemed so fresh and new! Very cute. However, the test of time has worn on this hotel and it doesn't seem like they've done any upgrades in a long time. In the sitting room the couches are worn and should have been recovered or replaced. The overall hotel needs some TLC. They have an excellent location, the staff is very helpful and the afternoon "happy hour" is wonderful after a long day of site seeing or shopping. My biggest gripe is that they have this jewel in an excellent location and they aren't investing the money to keep it looking fresh. I was very disappointed to see how the test of time had worn on this hotel. Very sad. My hope is that they'll see this review and consider doing some upgrades and giving this place a makeover! If I was to come again I'd maybe try their sister hotel a few doors down and see if it's worn any better.
“A Romantic Escape”
A very nice small boutique in Nob Hill close enough to walk to Union Square and all transportation. Like a small bit of France, partner Hotel of the White Swan next door. Pros: 1) A lovely Romantic and comfortable room (ours had fireplace) 2) Good FREE breakfasts, unlimited wine and soda's 3) Interesting French Decor 4)Friendly helpful staff, many recommendations for what to see and direction, and let me print out tickets for free that I had forgotten to before trip Cons: 1) The White swan two doors down is the main location for the 24 hotel desk service, mostly no one at front desk of this hotel. 2) no ice bucket, ice or refrigerator in room (as was stated on this site) constant walk up and down to get drinkable beverages. 3) If you are actually interested in watching TV in your Hotel room it is very hard to do. (But it didn't really affect us, but just good to know) For a romantic vacation getaway with your significant other it is highly recomented
“good hotel for the price”
good location and hotel was very clean with a nice and friendly atmosphere
“Petite Auberge”
An older European style hotel in a central location at a very good price. We were upgraded to a room with a gas fireplace which was a nice touch. One nice feature was an evening wine hour, where we talked to other guests, and received a tip on a good restaurant - Hog's Island Oyster Bar, where we had a nice sunset dinner. Also a tasty breakfast.
“Honeymoon accommodations: check.”
It was a great little hotel. It was our honeymoon, and they brought wine and beautiful flowers to the room. The location was great and close to everything, although it's on the street, so be prepared for city street noise. The breakfasts were great, the staff was wonderful--overall a great experience. We had a queen with a fireplace. This place had a hostel feel, bed and breakfast food and atmosphere, and comfortable room. It's probably not for anybody searching for high-class or chain hotel style, but it was great.
“Petit Auberge/White Swan”
Gentleman at the front desk of Petit Auberge was very nice and welcoming. The room, not so much. It had a fireplace, as expected, but the bed was terrible. I sat on it and knew it would be a bad night's sleep. Room was hot, so they brought me a fan, sounded like the Spruce Goose. The TV, circa1990, was in the armoire, impossible to see unless you successfully propped open the armoire door and used a chair to keep it open. No desk, which I needed. I gave in and asked to be upgraded and they had nothing, but got me a WONDERFUL room in their sister hotel next door, the White Swan. Excellent bed, room, desk, degree of quiet. I wanted to live there. So I'll ask for that hotel, and that room next time.
“Not What I Was Expecting.....”
The main reasons I picked this hotel were for it's location, affordability, and because it had breakfast included. The hotel met all of those expectations but then there were a few issues I wasn't anticipating. First, our room was really small. If you don't plan on spending a lot of time in your room, this probably won't affect you. Second, the room was noisy. Between the noise from outside (garbage trucks every night?) and the thin walls this was the probably the most disappointing part of the hotel. On the up side, the hotel staff was very accommodating when we made an error in our reservation and the morning breakfast spread was great. If you want to keep costs low and stay somewhere with a good breakfast and don't plan on spending alot of time in your room, this is a good place to stay however if you are looking to indulge a bit, probably not the place.
“Must Visit!”
Great time at this B&B style hotel. Very cutely decorated! Breakfast selections were freshly prepared, freshly cut fruit, sausage, oatmeal and delicious quiche. Hors d'oeuvres and cookie jar treats were homemade and changed daily. We enjoyed several breakfasts in their small garden patio. The other guests were lovely too. Free bottled water was a plus! Friendly staff, clean, and the little shampoo and soaps smelled soo good. This was in a safe area, far enough away from the hustle of Union Square. Also within walking distance of Chinatown, cable car stop, Walgreens, mom-pop & big chain restaurants. The last block up to Bush on Powell was a bit steep, so hang tight to your luggage. Would definitely go back.
“Comfortable and cosy”
Very cute and cosy small hotel/B&B. Pleasant staff, very nice breakfast and wine hour. I would be happy to stay here again.
