Great location, but needs to do better on service
Posted Jan 15, 2013
For the price paid for the room I expected better from a Kimpton Hotel. The room was small, the bathroom tiny and the view non-existent. I was disappointed having stayed at another Kimpton last year (in Miami) and been blown away by the standard of the hotel. The staff were fine, but generally always got the impression they did not have a great deal of time to help, or would do what was required in the quickest time. The only truly friendly member of staff i met was the older door man. The room itself was shabby with scuffed paintwork and rusting shower rail.

I expected much more from a Kimpton

Pros: The family like the wine happy hour.
Cons: This hotel needs a complete makeover. It's old and run down.
Location: Good location near Union Square.
This hotel felt like a 1980's motel. My girlfriend found black stuff floating in the toilet and she called to get a different room and they claimed they were 100% packed. They sent an "engineer" to fix it and it was fine after that, but it was still run down.

Extremely outdated and overpriced

Pros: Good location
This hotel is by no means a 4-star hotel and is priced as much as or more than much better chain hotels (Grand Hyatt, JW Marriott, Westin, etc). The room was tiny, the view was a fire escape and brick wall, the bathroom door did not shut properly, the bathroom hadn't been renovated since the '70s. In order for this hotel to be worthwhile, the price should be lowered to that of a 2- or 3-star hotel.

Polished and burnished, going the extra mile

Pros: I like boutique hotels that have refurbished interiors, and if the plumbing is good, the experience very comfortable.
Location: Right near Union Square, easy to get on the cable car, bus, and at most a 10-minute walk from the BART at Powell Station.
Although the building is old, the staff apparently take great pride in keeping everything looking very clean and bright. The mood makes you feel at home and comfortable in the room and in the lounge areas. The Executive Level breakfast is very welcome, and front desk is quick to help you with getting around the city. The plumbing appears to be adequately reworked, so no worries on the shower/bath, either. The staircase spirals nicely from floor to floor--great exercise instead of the elevator, if you like. Internet wi-fi connection was always strong and reliable. Be prepared for narrow halls and tight entry doors to the room though.

Tight squeeze, Not the best location 4 siteseeing

Pros: The bed was very comfortable
Cons: Parking price is outrageous and no view whatsoever
Location: next to union square, good for shopping.
*staff is friendly and helpful. *The parking price is pretty steep $48 + tax. Found a place around the corner for $32, but I think there might be cheaper places around *The room is not too small, but it's a tight squeeze. *The sink drain I believe was starting to clog up when I arrived. *No view what so ever *I would not stay there again if I was visiting for leisure.

Perfectly nice, good location, WiFi

Pros: Good Location, WiFI
Cons: Restaurant attached was average
Location: Well Located one block from Union Square. Fishermans Wharf etc is a long walk (up & downhill) but trolley bus was nearby although queues can be long
Perfectly nice hotel located close to Union Square. Clean, decent sized room, good shower, mini bar and all essential amenities. WiFi i the room was included which was great and surprisingly not always standard at many hotels. Handy for transport, staff perfectly nice and helpful.

Pros: The location , the adjoining restaurant and the comfortable lounge.
Cons: Improve the handicapped accessible facilities.
I had asked for a handicapped accessible bathroom with a walk in shower. While the bathroom was considered to be accessible since the door was wide enough for a wheelchair to get pin and the bathroom was big enough for a wheelchair to turn around in, there was a tub with a shower head, not a walk in shower. A really disabled person could not have used that tub-shower. Also, the toilet seat was the standard height instead of being raised as is should be to be truly in compliance with the regs.

Overall good

Overall good Hotel; My room was facing the back alley which was kind of noisy (white noise), and windows did not isolate enough. It did not interfere with my sleep though, but it could potentially do so to others
