European style pension

Posted Apr 15, 2014
Pros: I liked it's character and charm and historic significance.
Cons: Nothing.
Location: The cable car turn-around is a block away! Fisherman's Wharf is an easy walk, as is the bus stop heading to Chinatown.
The San Remo is an excellent choice for those seeking something a bit different in lodging. The hotel has a marvelous history and is absolutely charming! It's nestled between Fisherman's Wharf and North Beach - the location can't be beat! The rates are great and the staff was cordial and helpful for the most part. Be aware it can get noisy, though, as it sits atop a popular Italian restaurant. However, I found that after 11pm everything quieted down. The maids do a wonderful job of keeping the communal bathrooms, showers and sink areas clean. I was very happy with my stay at the San Remo!

Nice central hotel.

Pros: Owners have tried to maintain it in a period fashion.
Location: The location was brilliant. Only 8 minutes walk to Fisherman's Wharf and the beach. Many restaurants nearby.
The staff were all very helpful. Was quite dubious about sharing shower facilities but in actual fact it worked out very well. Any shower on both floors could be used and the dressing rooms were lovely.

Old world charm.

Pros: Location, rates, ambiance.
Cons: Better mattresses and pillows.
Location: I easily walked to Ghiradelli Square and the waterfront. Loved Water Street and the beautiful plants and trees lining it. Pat's Cafe is excellent.
I found the hotel quaint and fun. I was a bit concerned about sharing a bathroom with strangers but they were kept amazingly clean and I found it all kind of fun. One morning my sister brought me a latte from Starbucks but i couldn't drink it because dairy is not my friend. On my way out, a handsome man was standing waiting for the shower and I offered it to him. He was delighted to accept! The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. My only issue with the room was that the mattresses and pillows were rather hard. They didn't keep me from sleeping, though, and the earplugs were a thoughtful touch. I give it heads up for sure but if you have any physical issues be aware there are steep flights of stairs and no elevator - after all it was built in 1906...I would stay there again in a heart beat.

Good location, helpful staff.

Very cramped rooms and many have windows into the hall. Top floor is much lighter than second floor. Ask for outside window if you want to see out. Bathrooms are good, clean and people tend to share well and try to leave them without mess.

Close to all the major attractions in San Fran

Posted Apr 4, 2014
Pros: The privacy that I had in the penthouse.
Cons: The refrigerator needed to be defrosted and I noticed hair on the shower curtain.
Location: I walked to fisherman's wharf, Chinatown and the italian neighborhood. Also one block away from the trolley. Excellent location and nice quiet street.
I stayed in the penthouse suite, which is a stand alone room on top of the roof. It was like having my own little apartment away from everyone. Beautiful terrace to sit on and a distant view of the Golden Gate Bridge. The morning I left the sun was shining, a humming bird flew past the window and I could hear the sea lions in the background, a perfect memory to take home. The staff was always helpful with directions to the places I wanted to visit. The hotel itself is so quaint, like stepping back in time.

Close to the pier and cable cars. Very quaint neighborhood , felt very safe. If you like shabby chic you will Love the decor! I wanted to take every piece of furniture home with me! The staff was very helpful and it just had a very homey comfortable feel. The rooms are very small so you had better Really like your travel partner, but very clean as we're the shared bathrooms. Overall I don't think you could find a better deal for the money in the city. Would definitely stay there again

Cutest hotel ever!

Pros: Location and staff!
Cons: Nothing :)
Location: Great location!
The hotel is really cute and quaint and it is located in a great spot. There are a ton of restaurants nearby, it's about a 10 minute walk from Fisherman's Wharf, and a 15-20 minute walk to Crissy Field beach.

Location: walking distance to everything
First time ever having to share a bathroom and shower, and it was much easier than I thought. I am a writer and there is so much for this place I can use in my novels

Vintage Fun!

Posted Mar 21, 2014
Pros: Low key guest. Very quiet considering how close rooms are. Guest were very respectful.
Location: We walked from the BART station and all over! We did a tour bus and did not even need to rent a car.
I truly enjoyed my stay & it had a calm, relaxed vintage vibe. The staff was very nice & room was clean. No TV, but plenty of books. Plus, you spend most of the day out in S.F. Great location too. We can't wait to go back. Thank you San Remo!

A great place with lots of personality!

The location of this quirky but clean hotel is fantastic! It is also one of the few affordable hotels in SF that you will feel safely staying in. The bed was very creaky but for the rest everything was great!
