WARNING $20 "urban fee"

Posted Nov 22, 2014
A very nice hotel but they charge you a mysterious $20 "urban fee" for the coffee/newspaper even if you don't use either.

Everything is good but urban fee

The urban fee $20 a day is not acceptable. Nowhere is doing this!

Nothing special here

Posted Nov 18, 2014
Pros: Generally clean.
Cons: Cost; view of adjacent roof.
Location: For our purpose about 2 blocks too far from things. The Honey Honey cafe was a good breakfast stop. Stay away from the neighborhood toward turk st.
Small room with view of junk on adjacent roof. To include bottles and old soft cast along with old chairs. Room had broken toilet that was repaired promptly after notification. Generally a clean room. Very close to a part of San Fran that is not desirable. I will not stay here again considering what was paid for the room and the total package. The bell hop was not friendly at all, while the door man was very pleasant. The front desk people were nice enough to upgrade us to a king bed. Bed was comfortable. Mini bar epensive.

Short distant from Union Square

The staff for the exception of John, the gentleman at the door, where not friendly at all. They made our stay there unwelcome. Very disappointing.

Beautiful Boutique Hotel

Posted Nov 17, 2014
Pros: The décor was amazing and the staff was very friendly.
Location: Union Square is super close as well as many restaurants and bars.
This hotel was such a wonderful surprise. It is centrally located and a quick, two block walk to Union Square. The lobby and beautiful and the staff is incredibly friendly. Our room was small but welcoming. I highly recommend this hotel.

Not a Kimpton anymore

Posted Nov 17, 2014
Pros: I had been at this same hotel about 10 years ago and was looking forward to another pleasant stay there...unfortunately, it was not.
Cons: The staff could be more friendly and outgoing, the furnishings and color palette could be updated, and the resort fee is a scam.
Location: The immediate surroundings of the hotel are sketchy with lots of homeless people loitering/sleeping around. The hotel is close to Union Square though.
I booked the room under the understanding that it was part of the Kimpton family of hotels. I found out when checking in that it IS NOT, and it shows. The staff seemed tired and bored much like the furnishings. The room was typically small for San Francisco so that was okay. However, there was mold in the bathroom ceilings which could have been easily rectified with a proper scrubbing. The furnishings in the room show a lot of wear and could use some updating. Finally, they have a mandatory "resort fee" of $22 for things that other hotels make available free of charge; most notably, WiFi. I mean come on...this is San Francisco!

Overall, a pleasant hotel with a few extras: nice cozy lounge with free wine in the evenings and coffee and newspapers in the morning. Great friendly staff too. Location is very convenient to downtown.

Very nice

Nice hotel on edge of Tenderloin and walking distance to theaters and Union Sq. Rooms can be small or you can get an executive suite which is bargain price periodically. Prices fluctuate. One problem: beds are hard.
