Pros: Very historic and kitchy.
Cons: rooms look a little dated as do the corridors
Loved the hotel and our trip was fabulous. So close to everything.

Very convenient

Very warm staff. The infrastructure is bit old but the people are definitely trying. I like the lobby and this old style looking.

Great Union Square Location, Beautiful view

Posted May 24, 2015
Pros: Location, staff, rooms ..... Everything really
Cons: I would of liked more information about the coffee & wine service upon check in, and also about the room service incentive
Location: The location was very central, We were able to walk to China Town, Trolley Car stopped right by the hotel, there was lots of shopping close by.
We had a great experience at this Hotel and would recommend it to any of our friends or family. First of the location was great. It was our anniversary and they were able to accommodate some special requests, the staff were very pleasant, and the concierge was very helpful in helping us get around to our planned excursions, without spending all our money on transportation. Our room had a beautiful view of Powell street and Union Square Park. The hotel also offered a coffee tea service in the morning ( very nice to get your day going) and a wine service in the evening ( we were not able to partake in this because we were getting back late from our outings).

Lack of hot water

Posted May 23, 2015
Room was smaller than we are accustomed to, and the shower water is lukewarm at best. Bed was not the most comfortable, either.

Walls are paper thin.

Posted May 19, 2015
Good location but the walls are paper thin. Could hear everything from the rooms next door. And I mean everything.

Dear shaun, Our location is definitely a plus. The Drake being a 1928 historic building, what you may expect at more modern hotels may not be present. But we take our guest comments seriously and we are brainstorming as to what we can do. Thanks for your feedback. Cheers, Jim Gross, General Manager

It's a well located hotel but rooms are too small!

I like the hotel but it's difficult to move around in such a small room.

Exceeded expectations

Posted May 12, 2015
Pros: My room was excellent. Spacious, clean, and a great view. Free wine in the foyer at happy hour, helps with the jetlag ;-)
Cons: Air conditioning wasn't great, but perfectly tolerable.
I've stayed at half a dozen hotels around the Union Square area and this one (at least for the room I had on this stay) was the best. I had a pleasant room on the 17th floor looking out over the city and Union Square. Lovely atmosphere.

Dear Hugo, Thanks for a 5-star review! What a nice comment knowing that you stayed in other hotels: our rooms overlooking the city and Union Square sure are one of the best rooms we have. We couldn't be happier that we exceeded your expectations! We hope to welcome you back at the Drake in the near future. Cheers, Jim Gross, General Manager

Nickle and dime hotel

Posted May 12, 2015
Pros: location.
Cons: stop trying to nickel and dime your customers.
Location: San Fransisco hotel.
pillows hard as a rock, blinds broken, tub mildew, way overpriced for food, drinks, and they had a bag of cookies in the room with 7 x 2" cookies or 6 oz peanuts for $7 ea. how about a bud light in a bottle for $8 + tip ea. What about a latte for $6.50. We went up to the star light room on the top floor to have dinner. There were 8 people in the bar/grill on a Saturday afternoon. I wonder why there were not many people there. Oh and $60 per day for parking.

Dear Guest, Yikes...I'm very disappointed that you left the hotel feeling this way. Please know that our amenity pricing is very similar, if not the same with other hotels and the same goes for our parking fee. Yes, there are cheaper parking spots within the area should you wish to forego the convenience. It sounds like we missed the mark on few things in the room however; I am sorry for that. Perhaps, you can give us another try on your next visit to San Francisco! Cheers, Jim Gross, General Manager

Classic Hotel in Perfect Union Square Location

Posted May 7, 2015
Pros: Location, location, location.
Cons: Better concierge service
Location: Location is perfectly situated in the Union Square district. Close to all the amazing shopping and restaurants in the area.
This is a very nice hotel. I would put in a classic category. The rooms are smallish, but well appointed. Staff was friendly and helpful for the most part. The one exception was a less than helpful encounter with one of the concierges when we inquired about the Alcatraz tour. His answer to our questions was to direct us to the tour's website. Not much of an effort in my opinion. Other than that, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Also, the hotel is ideally located in the Union Square district. Close to all the shops and restaurants.

Dear Mark, The Drake is as classic as it can get: 1928 historic building that went through a renovation in 2011. Very typical of the 20's, room can be cozier than more modern hotels, but we also have rooms that are large enough to accommodate a family! Oh, no, I'm so disappointed to learn about your interaction with our concierge who often gets the most complements amongst all of us! I will personally talk to him about it. Well, I'm otherwise happy to know that you enjoyed your stay and our location! We hope to welcome you again soon. Cheers, Jim Gross, General Manager
