14th floor -Powell Street

Posted Jul 30, 2015
Corner room, facing Powell & Sutter Streets, nice and large, 14th floor, But very noisy. Lots of cable car, street traffic and construction noise made it difficult to fall asleep.

Great hotel, great location!

Posted Jul 27, 2015
Pros: Location, service, staff
Cons: Explanation of their water conservation program, specifically that they would at least empty the trash each day.
Location: Union Square, great restaurants within walking distance, trolley stop right outside the front doors, Starbucks next door.
Traveled to the hotel in June for a family vacation. Excellent service all around! Scott at the bar was wonderful, as was the concierge and the bellmen. Great location...easy to walk to Union Square and surrounding areas. This was our children's first trip to the Bay Area and they loved it. Definitely would stay there again and/or recommend to others. Only issue we had was their water conservation service. We placed the sign on the door to not have the sheets or towels changed, but they took that as no maid service at all. We had to request to have the trash emptied several times. In addition, we only received on $10 credit, instead of one each night. Other than that, it was a great vacation!

Dear Guest, Indeed, it is a 1928 historic building that went through a renovation in 2011. We definitely wanted to keep the 'old-world' charm and we couldn't be happier to know that you enjoyed it. Cheers, Jim Gross, General Manager

What a dream

Posted Jul 23, 2015
Cons: Better pillows
Location: Great and safe location in union square, lots of shops, restaurants, and bars nearby.
My friend and I were visiting for the weekend, and found the Sir Francis Drake Hotel to be truly the experience of a lifetime. The room was tastefully designed, extraordinarily comfortable, and above all: clean. The first encounter with the hotel was impressive, from the outside greeter, to the friendly staff, to the free wine and sangria being served on the first floor. We felt taken care of and right at home. On the first night, we realized we had forgotten our hair straighteners, and the front desk delivered one for us to use within 15 minutes. Overall, we had an excellent experience and we didn't want to leave. I am wholeheartedly grateful to the hotel for their wonderful and impressive service.

Typical S.F. older hotel: overpriced, over sold.

Posted Jul 22, 2015
Pros: Ok location and reliable.
Cons: Booking large groups at cheap prices over the weekend over extends the facility and staff and ruins the experience for others.
Location: It's at Union Square, the center of the city.
Staying in San Francisco has become absurdly overpriced. If I didn't have relatives there, I wouldn't visit.

Great Hotel.

Posted Jul 21, 2015
Pros: Old world styling, great staff, good food, close to everything
Location: Trolly is right out front, China Town, great food choices, excellent shopping, Pier 39 is a quick taxi ride away.
Beautiful hotel with all the old world styling. My daughter and I stayed here for a long weekend and it was prefect in location and comfort. The staff is friendly and helpful. The room was very nice and comfortable, albeit small. We actually had a good laugh over the notch that was cut out of the bathroom door to accommodate the toilet..otherwise you couldn't close the door. All in all, we had a great time. Must see "Sunday is a Drag" Brunch. That is worth every penny and the food is pretty good as well. Two show times so make reservations.

Dear Nicole, Thank you for staying at the Drake for your getaway with your daughter. It sounds like you had a wonderful time especially our signature Drag brunch! It made me smile to know that you could smile about our smaller bathroom. This building is a 1928 historic building and some of the feature are very typical of the 20's era. We hope to see you again in the near future. Regards, Jim Gross, General Manager

Pros: location cant be beat, starlight is a good bar , Starbucks is downstairs
Cons: needs a major renovation
Location: fantastic location right on Powell street
the good -location ,good bar on 21st floor ,Starbucks downstairs the bad -shows age in the need of a major face lift . rooms are very small and bathroom is even smaller. Closet is a joke if you are traveling as a couple storage will be a big problem . hotel is ok if you are on the budget

Dear Guest, Thank you for your review. I appreciate that you liked our location and our Starlight room on the 21st floor. Please know that the Drake is a 1928 historic building that went through a renovation in 2011. Our rooms vary in so many sizes - some much cozier while others are big enough to accommodate a family. Sincerely, Jim Gross, General Manager
