Luxury in San FranciscoPosted Aug 20, 2014
Pros: History, cleanliness and high quality of furnishings and bedding. Loved the old photos!!
Cons: Can't think of anything.
Location: Easy walk DOWN THE HILL to Union Square. This hotel is high on a hilltop, not for everyone.
If you love history and historic buildings you will appreciate the pedigree of the Fairmont San Francisco. This is a completely up-to-date modern hotel with all the amenities and luxurious details you could dream of. A city view is worth the indulgence, even if it is cloudy.

avoid at all costsPosted Aug 20, 2014
Pros: its beautiful, the location
Cons: rates for nearly everything are outrageous.
Although the hotel itself is beautiful, the rooms are very basic. They nickle and dime you at every single turn. Despite the fact that the room was very expensive, the valet service for the car was $70 per night and you had no in and out privileges. There was not even a free water bootle in the room itself. I needed to use the conference room and it was beyond archaic. The center itself did not have a person on staff and there were no pens, staplers or anything else one may need in addition to the fact that the printer was broken. I needed to fax a 10 page report because there was no scanning ability. the first page was $3 and the next 9 pages were $2 each. Also the on site gym was no better than any other hotel gym and in fact not as good as many. Despite that, to use it was another additional $15 charge. I will stick with the St. Regis and Four Seasons thank you very much. Oh also, we only stayed one night. Check out at 11. Despite this we had maid service knocking on our door at 8am! why would a room be made up before we check out?

Upmarket areaPosted Aug 20, 2014
Really nice hotel but if you want to be in the heart stay around union square. This is nice but a good up hill walk to get to town and back. Or you could catch the trolley bus

Great hotel in a great locationPosted Aug 17, 2014
Pros: Location, facilities, staff and service.
Location: Ideal location with a great roof garden
This must rate as one of our all time best hotel experiences. A great location in a great city, superb service and a very relaxing bar and restaurant. The Tonga Room is well worth a visit just to see it. Highly recommended.

A high quality classic hotel oozing with classPosted Aug 17, 2014
We arrived in san francisco mid way through our calafornia road trip. Leavimg the sunhine and outdoors of yoesemite behind, the fairmont was a becon of utter luxury. The newly decorated bedroom was very tasteful and comfortable and spaceous. We had a double queen room for a familyof 4 and it was ample size. Very clean bathroom, theost luxurious bedding and stunning bar, lobby area. Location wise, there was a trolley stop to the piers and fishermans wharf right outside the hotel and it was easy to walk to union square for shopping and china town. The only dowm side was the price of breakfast (Apprpx 40 $ each) We enjoyed coffee and pastries at the downstaors coffee shoptuch more!

Top Class HotelPosted Aug 11, 2014
Pros: Everything - but especially Tonga Bar!
Cons: Check in was rather slow but it was Friday evening.
Location: Great location over looking San Fran everything close by
From the minute we arrived everything was top class. Great Service. Room upgrade without request - room was top class and the view amazing. Great history to the hotel - my 15year old daughter and I were intrigued by previous guests and loved the Tony Bennett connection - his first performance of San Fran hit was sang here. Front desk clerk (again without asking) recommended cocktails at Tonga Bar as happy hour on Friday and apparently best Mai Tai in San Fran and she was right! We had dinner there later in the evening food was great as were the rest of the cocktails. Live entertainment and dancing great way to finish off our holiday. Have to give a particular mention to Bash who looked after us in Tonga - top top man. I can't wait to return. Great rate from Expedia too.

clueless and expensivePosted Aug 10, 2014
Location: forget the cable cars, they are impossible to get on
The hotel security, the same guy as a matter of fact, questioned me about if I was a guest or not, told me on one occasion, at 4:30 am that I had to go! I think it was because I was from the east coast and woke up early because I was still on EST! They started to serve free coffee at 4:15 am! I was there to get coffee, yet I was interrogated two consecutive mornings about my right to be there despite the fact that I was paying hundreds of dollars per night for the room! Two mornings in a row? Really? Plus, 10 dollars for a bowel of rice crispies! I will not stay there again
