Great location but property is a bit out-dated

Posted Dec 15, 2014
Pros: Location, price
Cons: Needs updating
Location: Union Square, shopping, nightlife
Enjoyed the location in the heart of San Francisco, overall a good deal. The rooms looked ok, but fixtures and beds seemed worn, they probably need new mattresses. Also there was some loud sounds in the morning, that sounded like the HVAC system. Not a big deal, but it might bother some people. Overall I would still stay again.

"I'll stick with Pickwick..."

Posted Dec 15, 2014
Pros: location.
Cons: Mattresses could be softer.
Location: Located in the Heart of Downtown San Francisco. Union Square bustling with excited tourists and things to do and see.
Great room! Very clean and tidy. Built for two. Bed was a bit hard but everything else outweighed that. Convenient location. Across from parking structure. The Staff was great. The old style atmosphere was reminiscent of an era gone by. The Bar & Grill adjacent the lobby was excellent:opens at 6 a.m. closes late. I have stayed in other Hotels in San Francisco for more and got less for the price. I'll stick with Pickwick from now on!

Old-Fashioned Hotel across from the old U.S. Mint

Posted Dec 11, 2014
Pros: Perfect location, friendly service, very good restaurant/bar
Cons: Some of the old windows don't close all the way, but they are charming!
Location: The Hotel is centrally located if you need to be in the 5th/Market to 3rd/Howard corridor. Conveniently close to Powell Street BART & Muni stations
Booked through Expedia. Check in a breeze. Needed to switch rooms and got a top floor corner room with a view (725). This Hotel has old-fashioned open-out (swing) windows and many no longer can be fully closed and/or locked. The rooms do have noise-reducing inside windows that lock, but the configuration makes it difficult to open/close the outer windows on both sides. I was not too bothered by the street/city noise. I slept well. With a corner room, the bathroom was bright with a wall of frosted glass. Shower had instant hot water and was refreshing (old iron tub, tiled floors). The restaurant/bar was very good. I ate dinner there both nights. Burger was good but undercooked (mine was the last order, at 10 pm). They serve American and Mediterranean food, as well as pizza (which the guy sitting near me said was very good ... he ordered a second one to go). I had the Mezze plate -- falafel, spanakopita, hummus, dolmas, pita -- all very tasty. I would definitely order it again. And the extended-hours (3-8) Happy Hour $3 Trumer Pils (Berkeley) beers went great with my dinner. Conveniently close to Powell Street BART/Muni station, Westfield shopping mall (Bloomingdale’s gives out-of-towners a 10% discount -- Corey in Handbags helped me find the perfect navy bag), Yerba Buena Gardens, Marriott, and Moscone. Less than six blocks to Union Square. Would I stay here again? Yes, if the price was right. With two major conventions in town, I paid $960 with taxes

Great location

Posted Dec 1, 2014
Pros: The location and the charm of this historic hotel.
Cons: N/A
Location: If your going to an event at the Moscone Center, you can't beat The Pickwick. Also The Westfield Shopping Center is just a few doors down.
I was there for the week of Thanksgiving and to attend the auto show. The location was so very convenient I could walk to everything. The Moscone Center, Westfield Shopping Center, movie theater, and plenty of great restaurants all within blocks. The staff was prompt cleaning the room and the front desk was very helpful.

Better looking from the outside

Posted Nov 26, 2014
The hotel is located centrally (a block away from Powell St) and looks appealing from the outside. However the rooms are disappointing. Everything looks old: the room, the closets and bathroom. The cable for the TV seems clearly added on later and shows poor workmanship. The wifi was most disappointing. It kept dropping and the d/w rates were very poor. I'd not recommend this place. Not for the price (which seems excessive given the quality) nor for location. There are plenty of other options.

Keep Your Expectations Low

Posted Nov 11, 2014
Pros: Jennifer at the front desk was the shining light during our entire stay. She was empathetic, action-oriented and customer focused. Thanks, Jennifer!
Cons: Update and upgrade rooms including beds. Remove multiple layers of paint that have been applied to all walls.
Location: Great location!
Surprised by indifferent front desk staff (except Jennifer). Room was in desperate need of repainting as there was at least 4 coats of paint on everything. Bed was uncomfortable. It felt like I was sleeping on a box spring and it sounded like it too. Walls are paper thin. You can hear everything in the surrounding rooms and hallway. Stayed for two nights. Not sure I'd return unless the rooms are updated and the front desk staff is better trained.
