perfect locationPosted Oct 22, 2014
Cons: elevators are extremely slow
perfect location to visit San Francisco; walking distance from places to see (Yerba Buena Gardens, for example) and public means stops. my room was in decent conditions, but really small: very limited space for moving and storing. staff was very kind and helpful.

Do no pick the PickwickPosted Oct 7, 2014
Pros: Not much
Cons: Just about everything
Location: It's a 10-15 minute walk to Chinatown. Several big name stores for shopping. Easy access to a BART station.
This hotel is situated across the street from the US Mint building which, apparently, is a landing spot for homeless folks to "sleep" at night. We we were often woken up by the loud yelling and emergency vehicles that traveled down Market street SEVERAL times per night. The hotel itself was just so-so. Only one of two very SMALL elevators was in working order during our stay so the wait to go back and forth between our room and the lobby was often several minutes long. The house keeping staff uses the same elevator so this was definitely a hardship for them as well. The room itself was disappointing - the bed was squeaky as was the door to the bathroom. The shower head was so low we had to squat to wash our hair. The cable television did not seem to include the channel that was airing the playoff baseball games, so we could not watch them without going downstairs to the attached restaurant where the bartender was too busy (texting?) to take our order until we called him over. The final disappointment came when we received our receipt and found that we were charged for a day of parking - we flew to SF and DID NOT HAVE A CAR. The front desk attendant, Imelda, fixed the problem and reversed the charge but was completely unapologetic about it. I would not recommend or ever stay at the Pickwick again.

Very nice old hotel.Posted Sep 28, 2014
The staff was very nice and welcoming. Parking across the street is cheaper than the hotel parking. The room is very small, but updated. Our king bed was very comfortable. The walls are paper thin, and we could hear simple conversation next door. Street side view isn't spectacular, but not bad. We came for a Giants game, and were able to walk to it. Close to spectacular shopping, and lots of choices for food.

No hot waterPosted Sep 24, 2014
Had to take a cold shower. No hot water. The room is so small for the price for a second I thought I was in Bombay.

Pros: The Staff and close to Union Square.
Cons: The rooms are so outdated. No ventilation in the bathroom and door was not a proper door.
Staff very helpful and happy hour a bonus. Breakfasts were very ordinary and over priced

Superb location but it's a 2* hotel really.Posted Aug 20, 2014
Pros: The location really.
Cons: Interior, bathrooms, restrooms in the lobby area.
The hotel is of great convenience to San Francisco down town visitors. 25 min away on the BART form the SF International Airport as well as from Berekley. Free wireless internet is available. The hotel is clean but seems to be in great need of renovation. The foyer restrooms are not presentable. The standard hotel room I booked was badly soundproofed. Hotel rooms adjacent to the internal courtyard suffer noise and vibration for the air conditioning system outside. The air conditioning systems inside the room was from 1990s and not noisy though the mini-fridge from the same vintage was (fortunately it could be switched off). The room was missing convenient wall sockets and lacked space by West European standards for a 3* hotel. Luckily the storage room, almost as a walk in wardrobe was huge, unfortunately with no wall sockets and no light in it so the iron and ironing board could not be used for purpose in there. The bathroom was small and very cosy but not well sound proofed from the hotel room. The bath tub was awfully worn out (acrylic layer missing around the syphon) and the shower hardly functioned as even at max debit most of the water was coming out of the tap below. The coffee machine was a nice touch but interestingly no milk/cream pods was supplied with the coffee capsules. If hotel rooms are booked by hotel's website one may get free breakfast. A minute gym facility exists for the devoted. So does a small internet area for guests. Pick a luxury room!

Very central Hotel with decent Room QualityPosted Aug 14, 2014
Pros: Central Location - one of the best in downtown SFO Fairly competitive cost for the location. Comfortable rooms
Cons: Reception Service Terms of booking modification Not washing your hands off any Expedia booking change. If you don't like Expedia, don't list there!
Aging but nice hotel with a fantastically central location in SFO. Great for exploring the city by foot and just around the corner from the Powell BART station. Room quality was decent - did not find anything to complain. Did not spend much time in room so did not explore hotel services. Only grouse was that receptionists were not friendly (though not rude). Price is not very cheap if you take hotel age into account - I found that the Marriot Courtyard has competitive rates and may have been a better choice for a small amount more. Be warned on this hotel's cancellation policy. Any change - I mean ANY change will not be entertained and they will point you to Expedia. Even if you check in and want to leave a day earlier then planned, the Hotel staff will flat out refuse any responsibility and ask you to call Expedia. And you don't want to be calling Expedia and wait for a couple of hours to connect while on holiday!

Great location for shoppersPosted Aug 13, 2014
Cons: Service from staff
Location: Much shopping within blocks. Easy to get to cable cars and other transportation. Short walk to many good restaurants and theaters.
Great location for shopping and accessing transportation. The hotel staff was a bit hard to work with - could not get more than one non-feather pillow and did not provide extra towels when requested. Concierge would only talk to my brother, not me (I am female). Very little water pressure on the top floor. However, the location made up for some of the problems.
