Cozy but Noisy

The location and room were great for the price, but let's face it the Building is old, old, old and there is little chance of avoiding hearing others, equipment or the cleaning staff.

Positiv: - Super zentrale Lage direkt an der Powell Station. - Renovierte Badezimmer. - Frühstück okay (Kaffee, Saft, süßes Gebäck) Negativ: - Fenster teilweise nicht richtig verschließbar. - Unangenehmer Geruch im Zimmer aufgrund der alten Gemäuer (?) - Kein Safe auf dem Zimmer.

The Powell Hotel

Pros: 108 years old, hotel staff were very good.
Cons: bathroom, tv bigger,
it is in the middle of Union Square and close to most everything related to Union Square. no Parking at the hotel - $40 per night roughly. no air or heat, but there is a ceiling fan. bathroom was updated but dirty. there was a 4" step into the bathroom, not good in the middle of the night. Room was of adequate size, bed and pillows were typical. no tv during the real early hours, sirens throughout the night. easy walking distance to shopping and food with the cable cars running right outside the building you can get anywhere in the city they run.

I loved the staff, very kind and attentive. I had problems logging on to their internet. The hotel location was excellent. Right in the middle of everything.... loved that ! Complimentary cocktails in the evening was nice, but they could of had some trailmix or nuts or even something for the top of the crackers, would of been nice. The breakfast in the morning consisted of donuts and croissants, but there again no butter or jelly for the croissants. The parking charge I found a little outrageous $45 plus tax was about $51.00+ and then of course had to tip. Overall a very nice stay.

Disappointing

Pros: Location
Cons: Needs a makeover.
This hotel has seen better days and needs a makeover. The fact that that it is a older hotel with "character" does not excuse the overall condition. I definitely wouldn't stay here again.

Convenient close to Union Square and Market Street. Excellent service and hotel staff and clean comfortable rooms. Budget for $50 valet parking per day, but hotel value made up for it Will stay again my next trip to San Fran.

Average hotel in excellent location

Perfect position at Powell/Market and very easy to reach from the airport. Rooms quite small and we had no tea/coffee facilities. No bar or food in the hotel, though plenty on the doorstep and a tiny concession shop at the entrance. This is an old hotel and is architecturally delightful.

Just for Location

Pros: Just the location, nothing else
Cons: There are so many things to improve but it should start with the rooms themselves
My experience with the Powell Hotel was disappointing as except the location of the hotel, there are many problems that affected my stay. 1. The Interior of the building looks very nice but the room was a different matter. Our room was located at the backside of the building and it was on the fifth floor, it was very very noisy during night which can make it a problem sleeping if you had a long trip 2. The decoration in the room was "interesting" for me as there isn't any fridge or mini-bar but there is a huge nightstand with small shelves which makes it impractical. I am not someone to use mini bar frequently but at least it gives a chance to have something to drink late night. 3. At night, it got really cold in the room and there isn't any heating option inside the room as it is a centralised system as the reception staff explained. 4. During check-in, the reception staff asked for my return plans. It is good to know the options for transportation from hotel to airport but at least give me a couple days before offering these advices. I just came for holiday and the first question is how I will return back to the airport 5. Despite it is advertised as "Continental Breakfast", it wasn't. It wasn't even close to it. Donut + Coffee doesn't make a breakfast "Continental"
