Great location, nice staff but...Posted Apr 17, 2014
Location is terrific for shopping, restaurants and cable car/ transit stations however it was old, a bit dingy and had small rooms. Staff was very responsive and helpful, they quickly got us a fan when the ceiling one didn't work. We were a couple with a child and only one suitcase could be opened at a time since it was so tight. Toiletries in the shower had to remain on the floor since there wasn't a shelf in the shower.

Location: Shopping, cable cars
Great location near the shops, cable car and trams. Stayed two nights and used the 3 Day Visitor pass to get around on the cable cars and trams to Pier 33 and Pier 39. We came by the BART train from the Airport and the hotel is so close to Powell St station. It is an old hotel and the Rooms are a little tired as you would expect. A little cramped with two double beds, but would be fine for a couple with a King. No safe in room.

Dear Mark, We are glad you were successful in making your way around the city via the cable cars and trams. This is a great and affordable way to explore the bay area! It seems our accommodations fell a bit short of exceeding expectations and regret if this caused any inconvenience. Please be aware that we do offer safes at the front desk if you need to store any personal belongings in the future. -The Powell Hotel Team

The best possible location in San Francisco!Posted Apr 11, 2014
Pros: Location. Friendly and helpful staff. The "happy hour" in the evenings in the Mezzanine level.
Cons: Coffee could be available throughout the day on the Mezzanine level, rather than only at breakfast.
Location: Easy walk to the Civic Center for music and arts events. Equally easy walk eastward to the Ferry building. Easy 10 block walk to the baseball park.
The Powell is only a 3 minute walk from the Powell BART station, 20 seconds to the cable car, and within 3 blocks of a half dozen fine Diners open 24 hours. Shopping? two blocks to Macy's, and 2 minutes from Nordstroms - couldn't be better!

We strive to provide a great experience to all of our guests and are sorry that we fell short in your case. Our hotel recently changed ownership/ management companies, and there will be many improvements made in the months to come. I got to the hotel , check in went up to the 4th floor and some one alse was in the same room, had to go back to the front desk and get a new key, how can that be possible..????

Dear Ok, We completely understand your frustration, and regret this happened during your stay. Sometimes a guest is assigned to the wrong guest room due to a computer error, and assure you this is not a common occurrence at our hotel. We are very sorry for the error and the inconvenience this has caused. Please accept our apologies for the mix up, and hope you will give us another opportunity to regain your confidence in us. -The Powell Hotel Team

Location! Location! Location!Posted Apr 2, 2014
Cons: upkeep of the rooms. the shower head presser could be stronger. hot water!
Location: cable car right outside the hotel. shopping on market st and union square. bart station is literally few steps away. lots of bars in area.
Great location. The bart is literally a few steps away. Cable car is right outside the hotel entrance on market. Shops are right next door. The hotel could have been kept a little better. It's a little run down. Room smelled like a mixture of dampness and cigarettes. But you get what you pay for. The free continental breakfast was also a good perk, even though they only served muffins, crossiants, coffee and OJ. It is better than nothing. Shower head water pressure was weak. Also there was no hot water, just luke warm.

Great locationPosted Mar 31, 2014
If you are planning on using the public transportation this hotel is right next to Powell Street Station which has both BART and the MUNI. The Cable Car that goes down to the piers is right outside the front door and the F train and bus stops are all along an adjacent street. There is lots of food and shopping within a short walk. A huge mall is right across the street. This has been my favorite hotel in SF to stay at so far.

We are very happy and flattered to read that the Powell is your favorite hotel in San Fran! You really can't beat our central location being only steps from various modes of transportation (i.e. the BART station, cable car, and MUNI). It would be a pleasure to welcome you back again in the near future! -The Powell Hotel Team

Excellent situation in the heart of everythingPosted Mar 29, 2014
Pros: The situation, i.e. the geographic location.
Cons: The breakfast was nice and fast but could be improved.
Location: Everything was there.
We really liked the situation. You were in the middle of everything, the shopping malls and the public transport not to mention the adjacent cable car first stop. Funny thing was that practically we did not need to use any public toilets which is great when you're travelling.

Right on Market and Powell Streets.Posted Mar 28, 2014
Pros: Fair value for the money.
Cons: Repaint the rooms.
Location: Next to cable car line and across the street from the F street cars to Fisherman's Wharf.
This was an older building with a small room. The bathroom was in excellent shape, with newer sink and floor. The room was clean, and even though right on Market Street, it was quiet. San Francisco hotel prices are expensive, and this hotel gave good value. I would stay here again.
