One of the marvelous old hotels

We had a very large, comfortable, quiet room overlooking the park and views of the bay. The staff was attentive to our every need and made our 6-night stay an absolute joy.

Nob Hill perfection

Posted Aug 27, 2014
Pros: Everything: but perhaps it's refined elegance was what appealed most.
Cons: The air conditioning .
Location: Close to everything and on the cable car line so even San Francisco's famous hills didn't daunt us.
A wonderful find at a wonderful price. We're lucky enough to take advantage of a special " opening after renovation" offer to experience this elegant and well situated hotel. Located at the top of Nob Hill with cable cars running past the door, this hotel is all class. A wonderful experience.

Perfect location to visit my family.

Posted Aug 26, 2014
Pros: It was updated very nicely, first class.
It turned out to be better than expected. My son in law, a native of San Francisco, said it was one of the most spacious rooms he has seen. Our family enjoyed the room and dining in the restaurant and also nearby.

Classy hotel

Flew in on Sun and stayed until the following Sat. Great location, friendly staff and close to transit lines. The Big 4 Bar & Restaurant on premises is fun and has great steaks. No tub in our King room but the shower was 2-person- spacious and well appointed. All in all, a wonderfully spacious room with great amenities. Slept with the windows open in Aug. Imagine that!

Provide free wifi!!

Posted Aug 15, 2014
Pros: The doormen
Cons: Free wifi and somewhere nice to have a snack and drink during the day
Location: Great location and lots nearby
Really good hotel with excellent door staff in particular but they really should provide free wifi. Do the hotel not realise how desperate and sad it looks when everyone is standing around in the lobby on their devices in the early evening. You can't even go into the bar as the wifi doesn't extend to there.

Good first visit to San Fran, charming hotel.

Posted Aug 11, 2014
Pros: Spacious and comfortable room. The complimentary bottled water and coffee each night was nice.
Cons: Get rid of the swarm of flies by the front entrance. Better rate for parking and WiFi. Hire staff with personality.
Location: Location was awesome. The center of everything and lots of good food in all directions. Do the bus tour for a day or so to get a lay of the land.
The hotel was okay; however, there were a few things that I expected to get for the price that was missing. It was an old and quaint place with a clean comfortable room; however, the swarm of flies that congregated by the front door was annoying. The staff was very casual and not overly friendly, and the concierge (other than Chris) service was less than accommodating, and the female (not sure of her name) was down-right condescending. Chris was helpful; however, the cost of the rental car was twice the cost as we were quoted when we first called. The cost of the parking was so extreme, we found it easier to rent a car and return it daily, in order to keep from paying the $60 per night parking, then we found out that the car stayed there anyway. The 2nd car we got was for a trip to Monterey, and it didn't have cruise control....I didn't know cars came without cruise control these days. It would have been nice to have the concierge insist on the comfort of the customers. I would have liked a small frig in the room, and maybe a microwave in the room. Overall, there were issues with the stay, but the hotel was nice.

Close to all main tourist attractions

Pros: The staff were incredibly friendly. The rooms were very nice and clean and the hotel itself was very quiet. Nice spa facilities and pool/hot tub.
Cons: N/A
Location: Great location - couple blocks away from Union Square and close to Fisherman's Wharf. Relatively close to many great places to eat.
As long as you don't mind climbing (and/or taking cabs/cable cars) to the top of a hill, this hotel is wonderful. It is a mere couple blocks away from Union Square and a relatively short walk (downhill) to Fisherman's Wharf. The hotel staff were excellent and always willing to help. The concierge was incredibly helpful and provided us with all the necessary information we needed to have a wonderful trip.
