“Pleased”
I was pleasantly surprised at this hotel and have already recommended it to others who want to visit San Francisco.
“Perfect location”
We enjoyed our stay at Villa Florence. It's the perfection location for a truly great shopping and dining experience. The front desk staff and concierge staff were courteous and helpful. The only drawback is the lack of vanity space in the bathroom but that's to be expected of an old hotel. We asked for a city view but it wasn't much of a view and it was noisy. If we had taken the room w/ the inner courtyard views , it isn't appealing so we opted for the "city view" We will definitely be back. Kuleto's restaurant has always been a favorite of ours. Also, try The Grill at the Handlery hotel.
“Not impressed”
Really old and not well-maintained hotel. Good location betwen Union square and Market st. Noce lobby. Got a room with a wall in front of my window. Pri e wasn't a bargain, just regular for this class hotels in Union sq. area. Will not stay again.
“Great... except for the parking”
The hotel was convenient and service was okay, but no parking. The valet service was a ripoff.
“great location, some service glitches, beautiful lobby, musty hallways”
beautiful lobby, great location, reasonable value; some very nice features in the room. That being said, there were a couple of issues: we were given keys to a room, walked upstairs, and walked in on an already-occupied room, people in it! The hotel clerk said that was impossible, but clearly it had not been. On arrival, both clerks were helping one person with tourist -advice and -directions, while we just stood there, tired and waiting for our room. One of the clerks should have dropped sharing that task and intended to the new arrivals (us). Because of the screwup, our room was upgraded. Original room was rather small. Rooms on the interior air shaft don't have a great view but are quieter. Great street, cable cars running right by the door. Union Square one block away. Nice ambience for the area. Minor gripes: both clocks in the room haven't been changed for "fall back" time change from the previous week. the carpeting in the main hallways upstairs have that musty old smell. Otherwise they are aiming for, and mostly achieve an upscale luxury effect. a few missing aspects, like the chair I'm sitting on now, good-looking chair, but the leather has been scraped off. on our exit, in a hurry, at 4:30 AM, the hotel clerk try to fob off some additional taxes or fees. My glare dissuaded hand. He said, "oh you are from Expedia, so maybe you don't have to pay this". arranged a town car to take us to the airport, 4:30 AM, never showed up and doorman, pleasant was lackadaisical
“It could be great”
The staff were great, specially the parking valet, great!! But the hotel has this cold feeling. As I entered the hotel, I did not know if I was at a restaurant, a sandwich shop or a lobby. It was supposed to be the lobby and registration, but there was nothing cozy, warm or welcoming. Small room. Renovation is nice, clean and modern. The bad: Noise. Either is the street noise or the air conditioner/heater in the unit. So Noisy, you have rather turn it off and be cold, than hearing it all night long. If you turn it off, you will hear all the other bedrooms' AC/Hs. Good: Nice noon check out. They will keep your car until afternoon and you can leave your luggage while enjoying your last day. Best: Kuletos, the restaurant. No need to eat somewhere else!
“Not impressed.”
The hotel indeed qualifies for a 2 and a half stars.
“Ready to return anytime”
This is a very charming hotel with a European flair. Our room was moderate in size, tastefully decorated and clean. The hotel staff was very friendly and accommodating. The hotel's location just off Union Square is prime...near theaters, restaurants and shopping. You can really get the "feel" of the city. Kuleto's bar and restaurant off the lobby is an attraction on its own. We celebrated my wife's birthday and the hotel had a complementary bottle of wine sent to the room. A nice touch and pleasant surprise. We look forward to returning to Villa Florence.
“Charming & convenient boutique hotel in the heart of downtown SF.”
This was my third stay with Villa Florence. My first was with my husband and kids, who loved the maze of stairways getting us from floor to floor - elevators are available! The rooms were nice and clean then and the service was great. This visit I was in SF for business and the hotel had undergone a makeover. My room had charming details to excite the eye, while also providing me with quality hair dryer, iron, TV and free wireless. The serve is prompt and friendly as ever. The lobby is beautiful and when you get on the street - you've got location, location, location!
“Noisy + Extra Charges”
This was my second time staying at this hotel. First the good: wonderful location in Union Square close to shopping, theatre, excellent restaurants, and the trolley. The hotel is well kept and the rooms (boutique size) are well appointed and comfortable. Now, the not so good. Both times I've stayed here they have put me on the O'Farrell St. side and both times I was awakened at 3 am by the garbage trucks who come EVERY NIGHT about that time. Secondly, I had booked through Expedia and was surprised when I checked out that there were "additional" charges ... more specifically, a $15 ADMIN Fee which was explained as an "extra charge for the amenities of the hotel like the business center." Anyway, it is my last time at that hotel.
