Great place to enjoy San Fran!

Posted Mar 17, 2014
Pros: Staff, food, rooms.
Location: Very nice area, just at the bottom of Nob Hill and approximately 4 blocks from Chinatown.
The White Swan Inn added to our wonderful San Francisco experience. The inn staff was extremely helpful and accommodating. The room was lovely, actually just redone with new carpet, upholstering, and wallpaper. We were a bit concerned we were going to be too warm as it was warm outside, but found a window fan in the closet, making it perfectly fine. The 5:00 p.m. hors d'oeuvres were wonderful as were the breakfasts. Loved it all!

Old English close to cable car

Posted Mar 8, 2014
Pros: Internet travel sites.
Cons: Had trouble with commode in room 31, staff did fix this.
Location: Cable car stop on Bush and Powell, can get busy, about 10 minutes between cars. Short walk to Pearls Burgers, burgers, fries and shakes.
Centrally located. Staff friendly and took care of all our needs. Stayed in a room close to the street, the ear plugs helped. Nice gas fireplace, not needed, unusually warm on our stay. Mini frig with sodas and water. Variety of foods at breakfast, hot egg dishes, sausage, fresh fruit, oatmeal, cereal... and evening snacks with wine. Used the lift instead of stairs due to my arthritis. Large comfortable room, beds comfortable with plenty of pillows. Older bathroom was very clean with good hot water and water pressure. Wi-Fi was slow but useable. Staff helped with directions and maps. Using a Muni pass we were able to walk a block and a half to hop on the cable cars, also used the F line trains, and buses, no need to rent a car. Hotel is close to transportation and a few restaurants. There is a beer bar across the street and some patrons were loud at night. Cookies available and different variety daily. Coffee and tea available all day and night. Pleasant stay.

Needs updating but lots of positives...

Stayed a week. Loved the location, size of room, amenities; full breakfast, free wine/h'ordeurves, fireplace and free soda/water in room. Hotel is in process of updating, which is needed.

Better than I expected!

My girlfriend and I stayed 1/22 - 1/25. We loved that our room had a fireplace and that our room (42) wasn't a square block like other places to stay. The street (bush street) that the hotel is on is pretty tame in comparison to other hotels in the neighborhood. The hotel is pretty close in walking distance to market street and china town. If you are driving utalize the valet parking, it's a lot cheaper than some of the places near by. Make sure to eat a meal or two on the back patio, my girlfriend and I never saw anyone there and it's pretty nice for being in the city and having a quiet private atmosphere. The linens used in the rooms are nice, the towels are your typical hotel towel, but as for the bedding, it was so nice to have nice linens. Also, if you get cold there is a fleece blanket in the closet. The only downside I had was finding electrical outlets to charge my phone/iPad/laptop. The staff was great, very friendly and prompt when delivering services.

Home Away from Home

Posted Jan 16, 2014
Pros: The location was out of the tourist area, but within walking distance of restaurants and other attractions.
Cons: Really nothing. We enjoyed our stay very much
Location: The inn is out of the tourist area (Union Square), but within walking distance of most everything we wanted to do.
We like to stay out of the tourist area, but within walking distance of restaurants and other attractions. The White Swan fit that bill. When we checked into the hotel, we were greeted with hot cider and cookies. Every morning, we started our day with a phenomenal breakfast spread and we ended our afternoons with a wine and cheese reception. The inn was clean and the staff were very helpful in recommending restaurants and giving us directions. The small, Victorian ambience made the While Swan our home away from home.

Have to say that I'm no fan of the decor. However, the White Swan was an incredibly comfortable place to stay. Great bed and fireplace, better than average continental breakfast, very helpful staff. Would absolutely stay there again.

Second visit as good as the first.

Pros: The afternoon cookies, wine and appetizers before dinner in the cozy lounge, a comfy room with a fireplace and a good hearty hot breakfast.
Cons: The only thing that I would improve is some of the older bathroom fixtures - clean, but some things looking old in not such a charming way.
This boutique hotel has the look and charming feel of a guesthouse in the UK. It's a warm and friendly place, and that's what I want in the middle of the City. The bedrooms are quiet at night and when traveling alone, this place makes me feel safe. The decor throughout the hotel is most pleasing for those of us who love to travel abroad. There is nothing impersonal or cold and industrial about this place; and I think you get good value for money.
