Beautiful OasisPosted Jan 14, 2015
It's funny to escape into a mediterranean-themed oasis in the middle of one of Costa Rica's town centers, but alas, Asclepios is a beautiful little oasis in the midst of Alujuela's bustling activity. This hotel is a true gem. The grounds are exquisitely designed and the staff is friendly. My partner and I stayed here after a few days of "roughing it" on cloud forest hikes, canopy excursions, and other outdoor adventures. Asclepios provided a much-needed respite.

Beautiful, relaxing spotPosted Dec 8, 2014
Pros: The location, the rooms, the pool & hot tub, the views, the treatments, the staff, our four poster bed and roll top bath, the peace, the salads...
Cons: A little more thought to presentation of food & portions, a few details such as the toiletries being full & the mould in the shower door.
Location: The location is ideal for your last night(s) - in the quiet hills yet 20 minutes by taxi to Santamaría airport. Vulcan Poas also on the doorstep.
We spent our last night in Costa Rica here, which it was ideal for. Our room - Afrodite - was one of the most lovely we've stayed in. The views, location, lovely swimming pool & sweet patio where we enjoyed lunch, made our stay really special. The healthy soups and salads were delicious, as was the organic wine we enjoyed as we soaked up the sun. Before my excellent facial in one of the fully equipped treatment rooms, we watched the sunset from the hot tub, which they will heat for you on request (same goes for the hammam). We shared a peaceful dinner on the terrace. The staff are attentive, even going so far as to overhear my boyfriend mention he fancied a crumble and making him one especially. We were there before peak season, so a few improvements were in progress during our stay, but it seems the hotel was set up to be busier and slightly more high-end than it has turned out, so, while we felt it was great value, there are some hints of a little faded glory about the place. We also felt that there are a few unnecessary restrictions - we weren't allowed to have our lunch by the pool but had to eat at the restaurant, and in some cases the food was a little tight (my breakfast portion of avocado was one small slice looking a bit sorry for itself on a saucer & the fruit salad wasn't very fresh). That said, we feel Asclepios is an overlooked gem that we loved and would definitely recommend.

Great facility but isolatedPosted Nov 19, 2014 on Hotels.com
2 nights. Simple rooms, extensive spa service, good restaurant, excellent staff. No coffee or beer available though, which seemed weird cosidering the country. Excursions seemed overpriced. Definitely need a car, out in the miidle of nowhere.

Peaceful settingPosted Aug 24, 2014
Pros: Peaceful setting
Location: The location was remote and there was nothing else within walking distance.
The hotel and property setting was really peaceful. The staff were all very nice. The wireless internet was only available in the lobby area. The room did not have a television, which was o.k., but the website did not state this. The buffet breakfast consisted of juice, toast and a bowl of fruit. The food menu was very limited and over priced. There was only one other guest in the entire hotel.

Romantic and RelaxingPosted Aug 19, 2014
Pros: How pretty and romantic it was.
Cons: Hot tubs, and less expensive food/drinks.
Location: Located near airport.
Beautiful location, expensive (delicious and healthy) restaurant. Nice sauna. Hot tubs did not work, but they would have been really nice if they had. Seemed like a magical place. Close-ish to airport, not close to restaurants or town. Taxi required to go anywhere.

Beautiful localePosted Aug 17, 2014 on Hotels.com
This hotel is in a beautiful, tranquil location. If you are looking for peace, quiet and good air quality this place is for you. Pros: -beautiful location -nice rooms -good service at the restaurant -nice spa services -organic food Cons: -far from anything else -if you are here during the off season, there is no heat and it can get cold at night -if there is no sun that day you will have no hot water -front desk service is lacking -food was inconsistent. Wish there were a few local dishes on the menu

Nice organic spaPosted Aug 7, 2014 on Hotels.com
We only stayed one day. We did not take advantage of the spa facilities, but from what we could see they looked really nice. We had to switch rooms because of noisy neighbors. The first room we were in was really nice, the Zeus suite was not as nice. Decent organic restaurant attached. The food was a little bland though.

Most relaxing hotel I've ever been toPosted Jul 30, 2014 on Hotels.com
My husband and I were overwhelmed by the beauty and serenity of this hotel. It is definitely a hidden gem. The restaurant caters to vegetarians and non-vegetarians alike. The rooms are sensational. The view, breathtaking from every angle. And the spa areas are in a world and class all their own. This is the kind of hotel you plan a vacation around. It's worth going to San Jose just to stay there!
