Gorgeous hotel in City Centre

Posted Jan 22, 2015
Pros: Gorgeous historic building, so grand. Staff couldn't do enough for you.
Cons: Update air conditioners.
Location: Location is great in centre close to everything and felt very safe. Lots of food options and shopping outside the front door.
Beautiful old hotel located right in the centre of the city. Room very spacious for us and two children. Yes, the rooms are a little old, but our room was in excellent, clean condition. Could do with new air conditioners, as the huge box in our room was very noisy. Breakfast buffet was excellent and staff so friendly and helpful.

Charming Colonial Hotel full of atmosphere

Posted Dec 28, 2014
Pros: The staff were excellent, very helpful and informative
Cons: It would be helpful if excursions could be booked on the hotel's website.
Location: The central location makes it easy to walk to a majority of the museums and historical sites. The Central Market is 3-4 blocks along the walking str.
This gem has a lovely outside patio which runs around two entire sides of the hotel where you can dine to the sounds of a live pianist. The hotel's casino is on the ground floor. The complimentary breakfast has omelets made to order, other hot eggs and Costa Rican breakfast staples and also has a selection of cold cuts, cheeses, cereals and rolls/croissants etc. My room overlooked the National Theatre square. Chandeliers, lovely tiled floors, paintings, historic black and white photos of the hotel (including photos of US Presidents and celebrities who have stayed in the hotel) and stained glass windows set the scene. A walking street for shopping runs along side the square adjacent to the hotel.

Questionable...

Posted Nov 30, 2014
We stayed for one night after flying in to San Jose. If you're interested in seeing San Jose, the location is fine. It's within walking distance of shops, museums, restaurants, and parks. Many people have said San Jose is intimidating at night, but we felt safe. Of course, exercise caution and don't lose track of your things. The hotel itself was in decent shape. There is a restaurant with pricey food. The rooms are small and very dim. There was hardly a light in the bathroom, and very little water pressure from the shower. And the bed..oh my. It was a thin mattress, thin sheets, and not very comfortable. Overall, it's not a great place and you can do better, unless you need to be in the heart of the city.

Classic old European hotel, centrally located.

Posted Oct 24, 2014
Pros: priced well, in center of city, near many points of interest
Cons: air conditioning units modernized, bathroom updated and water pressure improved
Location: Near the Teatro Nacional, Parque Morazán, International Banks, Parque de Espana
this hotel needs work on the interior. Water pressure in bathroom is poor and bathroom needs to be updated. Carpeting in hallway and in the rooms should be changed and lobby area needs an update. Hotel staff pleasant and the porch area quite nice.

Rever o passado

Posted Oct 15, 2014 on Hotels.com
Funcionarios muito delicados. Considero o hotel nostalgico, com sua mobilia, decoracao e arquitetura relembrando os anos de 1940. Cafe da manha bom, bar interessante, cassino a mao. Gostei de te-lo conhecido.
