A pretty good hotel but very priceyPosted Jan 10, 2015
Pros: It has some lovely gardens.
Cons: The restaurant utensils and glasses were consistently dirty.
The hotel is designed like a resort that you would fine around a beach. The hotel has some lovely gardens although the location is north of San Jose in the highlands in Santo Domingo. There wasn't much in terms of amenities within walking distance, so you are stuck if you don't have your own transportation. The restaurant is pricey for what you can get anywhere else in Costa Rica for much cheaper. The hotel is very safe, so if you want to avoid with sketchiness of San Jose but have a base in the Central Highlands then this is an option. But be prepared to spend a lot of money here.

BEAUTIFUL HOTEL AND GARDENS IN SANTO DOMINGOPosted Nov 13, 2014
Pros: EVERYTHING. THE FACILITIES, THE STAFF IS WONDERFUL AND THE GARDENS ARE BEAUTIFUL.
Cons: NOTHING. THE ONLY THING THAT COULD BE IMPROVED IS MY ABILITY TO STAY LONGER.
Location: CONVENIENTLY LOCATED. WITHIN AN HOURS DRIVE TO THE BEACH, FISHING AND OUT DOORS ACTIVITIES. WITHIN MINUTES OF SHOPPING AND DINING.
IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN A WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE AT THE HOTEL. I'VE STAYED THERE MANY TIMES IN THE PAST AND THE STAFF, ACCOMODATIONS AND DINING EXPERIENCE MAKE MY STAY VERY ENJOYABLE. IN FACT, IT'S THE ONLY HOTEL I'VE STAYED AT IN COSTA RICA OVER THE PAST TWENTY YEARS. ALSO, IT IS VERY QUIET AND RELAXING.

We loved this hotel. We stayed for three nights, enjoying its cleanliness, beauty, and service. We took tours that the staff arranged for us. Excellent customer service. The garden is lovely.

An oasis near San JosePosted Aug 10, 2014
Pros: The comfort of the room, helpfulness of the staff and gorgeous grounds.
Cons: The decor is a little old fashioned, but this is made up for by other qualities.
Location: Many tours are available from the hotel and are easy to arrange. There is very little in the immediate surroundings of the hotel, but transport into
The staff at the hotel were very welcoming, with check-in quick and easy. We had a very large comfortable room with a large balcony overlooking the gardens. The beds were extremely comfortable. The grounds of the hotel are an absolute delight, with an abundance of exotic plants and wildlife. There is a very pleasant pool and sauna. The hotel reception staff were extremely helpful, especially Letitia, who organised a tour for us at the last minute, with a really good driver who looked after us very well. Food in the hotel was very good and good value. I would strongly recommend this hotel to anyone wishing to stay near San Jose without being in the city itself.

Location: Very limited on foot as in the middle of a residential area. Closest bar/restaraunt down the road was very good.
Stayed 3 nights total on either end of our guided vacation around the country. Staff was excellent - friendly and helpful. Facilities were nice. Beautiful, well lit grounds with great paths but close at 8 pm so we could not see after dinner so wish they were open later. Our 3rd floor room was above the kitchen area so had several odors drift into our room, but not in there very long so manageable. Next room was 3-4 rooms in and no issues. Food from the restaurant was enjoyable.

Nice, friendly neighborhood hotelPosted May 26, 2014
Pros: All of the staff were wonderful
Cons: At times the shower would go very hot or quite cool.
Location: Used this as a home base, but didn't check out the neighborhood too much.
The hotel was a nice, neighborhood hotel with an exceptional staff that really went out of their way to please. Ask for a room overlooking the gardens and I would advise arriving during the day to allow for daylight hours to find the hotel. It is difficult to find in the dark. Overall, quite nice.

Amazing views, quiet, amenities, taxis availablePosted May 20, 2014 on Hotels.com
This hotel is a bit out of the way if you don't have a car, but taxis are readily available out front or local buses go into town on the same road. I walked into Herredia and Santo Tomas several times during my stay to buy snacks or see the churches and walk around. Stay on the sidewalks as traffic is a little crazy! Lots of parking if you have a car. Very quiet and comfortable accomodations. Pool was very nice as well as the workout room which was well-maintained. Food was good and fresh. Mainly "gringo-style" stuff but fresh and reasonably priced. Great service from hotel and restaurant staff. The gardens were beautiful and the room was spacious with amazing views. The veranda was nice to sit on and drink tea in the afternoons. A welcoming and relaxing spot to hang out in and I was still able to get to Volcan Poas and rain forests quite easily.
