“Beautiful oasis in the heart of San Jose”

A great place with some history behind it. And the owner, Thomas was extremely helpful! Very pleasant guy with lots of info and a willingness to help in whatever way he can. Our rental car wouldn't start. He tried to jump it and when that didn't work, he handled the call to the rental car company for us. Bought us a beer, and even led us out of the city to get us on the way to the Pacific coast. Would definitely return there if staying in downtown San Jose.

“Great Hotel; Best Experience!!”

Excellent location, just walking distance to downtown (Plaza Morazan, Teatro Nacional, Central Avenue; just to mention some). The staff is the best, they will take care of you since the moment you step in. You can rent a vehicle, or book your tours right at the main office. Very safe and secure location. Excellent restaurant, great menu at very low prices. Breakfast is included from 7am to 9am. Happy hours from 4pm to 7pm, Ask Carlos for a Piña Colada or a Margarita (two thumbs up). A wonderful stay experience!!

“Great little hotel.”

Great building and grounds upkeep. Excellent staff and owner. Good meals at the restaurant. Old continental furniture in superb shape and comfort. Excellent common areas with plenty of seating and tables. Near everything. Only drawback: poor security after 6:00 PM. They recommend to stay indoors! Found this to be true everywhere in Costa Rica.

“Costa Rica Adventure - great hotel”

Hotel located within walking distance to major interest points os San Jose. Very secure and clean. Front desk people are really great and do wonderfull job. They can help with any questions. We stayed in San Joe only 2 nights - there is not too much to see in the capital - better just head out and see the nature. I recomend taking a public bus to La Fortuna and then book a trour to see the volcano, then go to Monteverde and do the ziplines - Salvatura park is great. Then go to Quepos and Manuel Antonio - very nice beaches there. Hotel Santo Tomas was perfect and very save. The area may not be the best but thats like in any big city. Costa Rica was very nice!!!!

“Valentines Night Bliss!”

I booked this hotel on line for a Valentines Night romantic evening and they did not disappoint! The hotel is a BEAUTIFUL VICTORIAN MANSION (Not listed that way on the net BTW) and I am amazed by the beauty of the hotel. The room was clean, wireless fast, breakfast AMAZING and Mauricio and his staff are the best... except for his taste in football teams down there, namely Saprissa... GO LA LIGA! lol! i RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL TO ALL! bravo!!!

“Very nice hotel - Highly recommend it!”

I have stayed at this hotel twice before and was very familiar with it and know the staff (who are great people).. It's a great place place to stay with a very colonial interior. the neighborhood is not ideal with lots of 'street people just outside and nearby, but I have the same problem in Los Angeles where I have lived for several years so there was even something familiar about even this! I would recomend this hotel to anyone - and have!

“Great Stay”

Hotel has excellent service which includes cleaning and also setting up tours. The included breakfast was very nice in addition to the pool and gym. It's downtown so outside isn't the best neighborhood, but I really think that depends on where you are from. The locals really didn't act like it was a bad neighborhood, it's located a block or two from the San Jose downtown shopping district.

“Diamond in the Rough”

I was pleasantly surprised when my husband and I arrived at Hotel Santo Tomas. We arrived at night and I was forewarned that the neighborhood wasn't safe after dark so it was no surprise to see a locked gate guarding the Hotel entrance. We were escorted inside by friendly staff and I was pleased to notice our surroundings on our way to our room. There were fresh flowers placed throughout the hotel, including our room. The hotel's restaurant had a varied menu and the food was served hot and fresh and the complimentary breakfast was excellent. My husband and I ended up staying another night before we left and for only seven dollars more than we paid for our ground floor room, we were given a room on the second floor that was twice the size of the first room we had stayed in and was decorated beautifully. During the day we were able to walk around the downtown area and were easily within walking distance of shopping, food, parks and the beautiful Teatro Nacional. Hotel Santo Tomas was wonderful and did not dissappoint!

“charming oasis”

This Hotel was exactly what we needed/wanted for our arrival and departure from Costa Rica. the rooms were old world stylish, the stadff charming and helpful. It didn't matter about the neighborhood as there is a perfectly adequate restaurant onsite where breakfast is included and dinner may be purchased. At the end of our trip we still had the rental car and they provide at a nominal fee a locked off- street parking option right outside the garden gate. We would definitely stay here again for the same purpose if we return to Costa Rica, which is a distinct possibility as the country is amazing!
