A delightful havenPosted Feb 27, 2013 on Hotels.com
San Jose is a busy city, and this was a nice little hotel hidden in the midst of all the hustle and bustle. Antonella and her staff are very friendly and helpful, the rooms are absolutely gorgeous and the cafe food was delicious. There can be a bit of noise from the Nicaragauan embassy across the street, so make sure to turn on your A/C at night to drown it out with some white noise. I highly recommend this hotel, but they only have 3 rooms I believe, so book early!

Oasis in a busy townPosted Feb 19, 2013
Pros: Friendly, helpful staff, Shower (pretty cool Euro-type)
Cons: Street noise
Location: Very urban - very San Jose
Very urban, but central to everything. Walking distance to restaurants and mall shopping. Staff was helpful and spoke English well. Breakfast was nothing fancy but adequate. They served warm milk for the coffee (we like that). We would consider staying there again.

AWESOME PLACE TO STAYPosted Jan 5, 2013 on Hotels.com
Services and accomodations were excellent. Staff provided laundry service on request and were super courteous and helpful in arranging activities. The coffee was the best in town. Restaurants nearby. Downtown walking distance. Felt safe entire time. German shepherd, Sheila, is a dear. Rates were a great alue over pricer places we've stayed and foof was muy delicioso.

Vintage CharmPosted Sep 11, 2012 on Hotels.com
La Gioconda hotel was full of charm. The owners and the staff were very accomodating. There was an on site cafe that had a great cosmopolitan vibe. We booked a tour through the hotel to Volcan Irizu and enjoyed the adventure. It was great to be able to get a massage on the premise (Thanks again!). We stayed there four nights and the location was convenient for exploring downtown San Jose and the area. Our quarters was in need of a coat of paint but it had a very comfortable bed and layout. The cab to the airport ran $30 but I would certainly recommend this hotel to anyone who would be in the downtown area for several days.

Great place to stay before going into the JUNGLE!Posted Jul 10, 2012 on Hotels.com
Staff was friendly and accomodating for our stay. Playing pool was nice and Front Desk was very personable. Too bad we didn't have time to stay longer. Breakfast was our best during the trip- different enough that we didn't feel we were at home and the reliance on local fare was awesome- The only thing they could have had was Pinto Gallo but understandable since the hotel had a wonderful Italian slant. Regret not eating at the restaurant for Dinner during our stay that night -It would have been a much better experience than our choice from the neighborhood.

Homelike, clean and friendlyPosted Jul 4, 2012 on Hotels.com
We had La Gioconda as our base for tours around Costa Rica. The family who ownes the hotel let us have our luggage in the reception during our trips and we returned to La Giconda to sleep, use their laundry service and plan the next trip (good working WIFI). We really recommend it!

A little jewel in the midst of traffic noisePosted Jun 17, 2012 on Hotels.com
We loved our bed and breakfast and the owners were gracious, friendly, helpful, and excellent cooks. The atmosphere was friendly, staff was welcoming; guests were friendly. Certainly there is noise in the neighborhood but it did not distract all that much. We stayed there twice and our accommodations (one named Casablanca; and the other Roman Holiday) were accordingly and beautifully decorated.
Over-the-Top ElegancePosted May 28, 2012 on Hotels.com
Very nice rooms, almost overly elegant but most will be pleased. I stayed only a few hours awaiting a flight, but found my room large and comfortable, though on a busy downtown street near government centers and the Parque Nacional in Barrio California.

La Giocanda...delightful, sincere, helpful hostsPosted May 23, 2012
San Jose itself is vastly less charming than we expected...it's as ugly as the rest of Costa Rica is beautiful. But La Giocanda was a great find, and I'm grateful to the other reviewers for pointing us in the right direction. Antonella and Enzo (Italy) with help from Debbie (Brooklyn) have created a home away from home for three days of museum and symphony trips, all within a few blocks. They are fantastic hosts, great cooks, and Debbie may be the best massage therapist I've ever had. Berta the cat and Shila the dog are adorable. Antonella helped us rent a car, saving us hundreds. We kept their business card, knowing we could call them from anywhere for help. On our way home we plan to stay again.
