Strange, though some might think charming

This was apparently apartments before it became a motel. The "room" was enormous, with interesting architectural features, but oddly configured. It was on a busy corner, with noisy traffic at the best of times. There was an in-room air conditioner (not window--the other kind), which was not turned on when we arrived. The room was stifling, and the air conditioner only helped somewhat. Also, it decided to turn itself off in the middle of the night, and couldn't be persuaded to turn back on. Most importantly, we couldn't keep the windows open even when it cooled off outside because of the traffic noise. This was magnified to an unbearable level when the night-time road construction crew started work at about 11:00 P.M. Oh, yes, there was a lovely ceiling fan which was our salvation--kept the air moving and helped mask the outside noise.

Right next to main road -- windows do not block loud road noise

I was not impressed with this hotel and would definitely NOT recommend it. The "office" is a booth where you stand outside and ring a bell for someone to come by -- definitely not a safe situation for a woman traveling by herself. The first room I was given faced El Camino Real and the noise was unbearable. I asked to switch rooms, and rather than bring the keys of the new room to me, I was asked to go to the "office" outside to pick up the new keys. The new room was better, but I would have required industrial-strength earplugs to block out the road noise. The inside of the rooms was nice, but the bed was cheap and not very comfortable.

reasonable value

looks a little aged from the outside but was fine on the inside; in fact my room was quite spacious. kitchenette, though obviously retrofitted was very well appointed. Camino Real is a very busy street so if you're a light sleeper, ask for a room away from the street. Location was most important to me and this was the most reasonable rate I found in the vicinity.
