"Great hotel, perfect location"
I lived in San Juan for a year so knew what I was doing when I went back. I actually lived in the apartment building right across the street from the InterContinental, and knew it was a great location on the best part of the beach in San Juan. I wasn't disappointed: the stay was fantastic --two girlfriends and I went as a 40th birthday getaway and we have decided to make it an annual event! A few specifics. First, Expedia screwed up by indicating that this hotel has rollaway beds, which it does NOT. However, Irene, the Front Desk manager, was GREAT about moving us to a room with a larger bed and pull out sofa. I had mentioned that we were coming for a birthday weekend, and we came back to the room on the first night to find a bottle of wine, some chocolates, and small finger foods, along with a lovely birthday note! A super nice touch you don't see very often anymore! We also discovered that poolside, the InterContinental serves 2-for-1 mojitos ALL DAY. Also, Pedro, who waited on us, was AMAZING. Definitely find him if you are there! Lastly, I left my passport at the hotel!!! (Too many mojitos.) Gabriel at Security found it, called me the next day, and had it immediately FedExed to me. Great service, great location -- definitely the place to stay if you come to this lovely island!

"Beautiful Hotel on Private Beach"
We stayed at the Condado Villas for our 25th wedding anniversary, and we were not disappointed at all. Our room had a beautiful view of a bridge, which ran across an inlet. We could also see the ocean, and enjoyed watching the sun rise over the ocean. At night they light the bridge, which is also lovely. At the northern end of the hotel rests a Spanish fort, which makes a nice background for pictures. Also at night, we could hear the frogs chirping as we walked down the open hallways or strolled past the small pond between the villas and the main hotel. The hotel has several restaurants, including Star Bucks and Quiznos, but they also have a bar and grill by the pool, an Italian restaurant, an Asian restaurant and a steak place. We ate at the Asian restaurant one night, because we could dine outside, and it was very good. There is also a Mexican restaurant nearby, which had great guacamole. Some have complained about the price of the meals here, but prices are comparable, meals are exceptionally prepared, and the wait staff are very friendly and accommodating. The hotel is enchanting for children as well as adults, with all of the different birds, lizards, and fish on the property, and the beach is wonderful. They have a rock breaker, so one can enjoy the ocean without being beat up by the waves. There are also swimming pools, hot tubs, kayaks, and plenty of chairs for lounging. This is where the Pina Colada was born, so make sure you have one if you stay here!

Pocket Guide: San Juan, Puerto Rico Island Spa Hotels

San Juan is the capital of Puerto Rico, and its cultural hub. Half of the island’s population lives in the greater metropolitan area, and most visitors enter here as well. Old San Juan, with its cobblestone streets and old colonial architecture, lies on a small island connected to the mainland by bridges; it is guarded by 16th and 17th century forts, now World Heritage sites open to the public.
