Unique hotel with history and character

Posted Dec 4, 2014
Pros: The architecture and atmosphere were unique and the historical significance of the building along with the list of past movie star guests.
Location: Close to Highway 101, was heading up coast so did not spend time exploring immediate Santa Maria area.
Arrived a little later than planned but check-in was quick and easy and enjoyed walking around the hotel and examining pictures and woodwork, lighting was atmospheric and not overly bright which is not the case at many new hotels. After using the in room wi-fi and watching some tv I had a good night's sleep in a very comfortable bed.

A bit too loud for our taste. The rooms did not keep out sound from street, hotel corridors, fellow guests. We enjoyed the hotels french toast & lemon blueberry pancakes very much although coffee was slow to arrive and we had to ask for refills.

Disappointed

Posted Nov 29, 2014
Pros: Comfortable bed, reasonable price. They let us check in early.
Cons: Needs updating and could sure use paint.
We stayed in the old wing which is probably why it was so cheap. The whole second floor smelled like cigarette smoke. The paint in our room was pealing and looked like it hadn't been cared for or updated in many years. The rooms bathroom/ vanity layout was very odd as well. The best thing was that the bed was comfortable and we got a laugh at all the ghost stories associated with the hotel and our room, #210. Google it before you go.

one night at the inn

Posted Nov 18, 2014
Pros: I'll stay again, but dine elsewhere!
Cons: Restaurant pricing and variety on menu.
Being such an old building, it is beautiful, but v. thin walls, apparently. the neighbor upstairs were so noisy that we were upgraded to a new room (suite with Jacuzzi). the restaurant was v. nice (great bread!), but hugely over priced ($9 for soup...).

Most Disappointing Hotel Experience in Forty Years

Posted Nov 16, 2014
Pros: Leaving it behind.
Cons: Aside from the apparently challenged plumbing, the customer service.
We were driven from our room at 6:20 AM by the foulest stench from something unmentionable bubbling up from the bathtub. We were then given another room to use so we could shower and continue our trip. My wife took the shower first and was quickly in rising water as the drain was not working. I never got a shower at all. Very disappointing experience. There are quite a few hotels in this area, I cannot recommend this one.

Nice hotel; close to restaurants.

Posted Nov 9, 2014
Pros: One thing we loved was a separate bathroom and closet/vanity room. Bathroom was large and handicapped-equipped. It has a mission-look patio.
Cons: Handicapped room smelled a little musty. Two things were missing from the room that were promised when we booked: a sofa-bed and safes in our rooms.
Location: Restaurants, wine country and Nipomo.
Hotel was nice. Offered a wheelchair for handicapped person in our group as soon as we registered. As requested, we were placed in adjecent rooms.

We stayed in the historic "older" part of the hotel and the rooms were charming and comfortable. The hotel staff was excellent and friendly.

1st visit!

Posted Nov 1, 2014
Pros: Especially liked the seasonal decorations, as well as, the historic memorabilia. The Tap Room atmosphere and cod was great. ( luggage carts avail.)
Cons: A complimentary breakfast would have been nice!
Location: On a busy street, but we were given rooms away from the noise. Only passing through, so no time for attractions.
Although our stay was only one night, we thoroughly enjoyed the evening. It was a welcome change from the sterile atmosphere of the chain motel/hotels.
