Quirky hotel, one not to be missed!

Posted Sep 13, 2014
Pros: Fun and quirky and lovely staff!
Cons: The decor could be updated a little more, and there was no wifi in our room. There was also very little water pressure in the shower.
Location: There is a drive in movie theatre about a 5 minute drive from the hotel! Great fun! And the Del Monte Cafe is heat for breakfast
We'd been recommended the Madonna Inn by a lot of people, so we definitely wanted to stay there! The hotel is kind of in the middle of nowhere, but that was fine for us. Very easy check in, but parking was hard to find as the hotel was very full. We were in the Anniversary Room, although we didn't feel there was a huge theme. There was a rock shower in the room, which was unusual but fun! And a self cleaning toilet!! What an experience! Overall the room and bathroom felt a little tired. As we were on honeymoon, the hotel sent us a bottle of champagne, a lovely surprise!

Go for the decor stay for the night

Posted Sep 11, 2014
Pros: Food was great. The slice of cake needs two to finish it! Location is ideal if you're doing the Highway 1 drive.
Cons: Rooms could do with a more thorough clean.
Fun and interesting hotel with fun decorations. Shame you don't get to see all the rooms but you do get to look round the main building with restaurant and cafe which gives you a taste of things to come. Not all rooms are as flamboyant as the main building which is shame. Good fun for a night when you're driving along Highway 1.

Weird and wonderful

Posted Sep 3, 2014
Pros: The decor, the layout and the rooms. Every single room is different, with a theme.
Location: Just used this hotel as a stop off point between Monterey and Santa Barbara. This was always going to be our chilling out by the pool "resort day.
The Madonna Inn is such a different hotel to the norm, it is a must on a Pacific Coast Road trip. We booked a Rock Waterfall room and got "rock bottom". It was like staying in a cave with a very large comfy king size bed. The walls, floor, ceiling and bathroom are all bare rocks. The bathroom was great, with a walkin shower which had a normal shower head as well as a rock waterfall shower. Lovely! This room does not have a safe, as there is nowhere to locate one in the rock formations. Otherwise it has everything you would expect. The bathrobes are great, like long soft cardigans, which you can also buy in their shop. We arrived early so couldn't checkin as our room wasn't ready. However, we were given pool access, so spent 2 or 3 hours relaxing in the sun until we could check in. The main hotel itself is just fab. Very, very Pink and ornate. We ate in the Steakhouse, although this was a little quiet and with hindsight we should have eaten in the cafe, where most people seemed to be (probably due to the menu price difference). Overall, great location, easy to find, a lovely experience. I would definitely recommend.

Friendly staff with good facilities and complimentary champagne and desert because it was out honeymoon. The whole place just felt right after initially thinking it would be over the top.

As insane inside as it appears outside.

Posted Aug 14, 2014
Pros: It was clean, friendly and utterly bonkers.
Cons: The internet is a little slow in certain places.
Location: It's a great place to set off towards Big Sur and take the impressive coastal drive towards San Francisco.
If you have reason to stay in San Luis Obispo (or surrounds) there's absolutely no reason not to stay at The Madonna Inn. It's truly a one-off.

Unique experience

Pros: Lovely grounds and lots of quiet areas to enjoy a drink or conversation. Our stay was relaxing and romantic.
Location: Hiking/biking trail onsite. Close to downtown SLO and wonderful wine tasting in the area.
Last minute decision that we didn't regret. Enjoyed the pool with the waterfall and the patio bar. Went for a walk then enjoyed lunch. Every room is unique with lots of details. Great privacy; we never heard anything from any of the other rooms, which were occupied. We appreciated the attention to detail and the quality of the little things like the lotion and body wash. The staff was friendly and attentive in the restaurant and onsite shops.
