“Clean, Quiet, and Nice People”

For a motel, I was impressed. This is an upscale motel (note: NOT hotel). It was very clean and recently updated. The front desk staff were very friendly and helpfule. The area was SO quiet, even though there seemed to be plenty of people. It was across the narrow street from the beach with walking paths. It was a short ten minute drive to Hearst Castly and less than five minute drive to town where there are restaurants and shops.

“Beautiful”

Our family of four (two kids and two adults) stopped here for the day and visited Hearst Castle the next morning. We checked in around 2:30 and had a relaxing and fun evening. First we visited the beach that is just across the street. This is not a swimming beach, but a beautiful, lively beach. I say lively because we saw so many animals in the tide pools and on the rocks. There were sea stars, crabs, and harbor seals. We saw dolphins or killer whales swim by. Kids played in the sand while husband and I walked along the beach. I brought a picnic dinner so we sat in the motel's adirondack chairs looking out at the ocean and ate. Then my kids and I swam in the pool and relaxed in the jacuzzi. It was such a pleasant evening that we all slept well. We woke up happy and had a great visit to Hearst Castle. I would definitely stay at Castle by the Sea again.

“back next time”

This was a great hotel, except breakfast was a bit mean. tiny muffin, juice and coffee. Place was in excellent condition and well worth the price.

“older hotel great location”

The hotel was older, and fairly plain. It was easy to get to and clean. We were there in January, so the weather wasn't great. The big thing it has going for it is its location. You have immediate beach access. And you can walk on the beach, and there are usually sea lions that are observable. All and all a place to sleep at and spend your time on the beach or exploring the town.

“Affordable and comfortable”

This motel is SUPER clean and seemingly remodeled recently. It's nothing fancy or luxurious, but for the price, it is a great option. So if you are just looking for a place to sleep and that's it, this is a great choice. It's right across from the each too. The owners are really friendly and helpful.

“Moonstone Beach”

Without a doubt, one of the prettiest places in California. Small little town, great people, great food, miles of beach boardwalk, romantic, exciting, relaxing. Hearst Castle is just a few minutes north, one should see this. We sat for about 3 hours, enjoying the winter sun; surf was incredible; wonderful getaway. Do youself a favor... ENJOY

“Awesome staff and very clean rooms”

Very clean property. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Bed was comfortable. Location is great. Walls are a bit thin so you can hear your neighbors.

“Clean but overpriced on weekends”

The hotel was clean and walking distance from the beach but was not impressive and the view ho-hum. However, the staff was friendly and helpful in finding an excellent restaurant in Cambria.

“Nice, but a motel....”

Everything in the room was perfectly fine, but the "Continental Breakfast" was disappointing. It was bad coffee, cheap blueberry muffins, and powdered cream. There were no options, and nothing vaguely healthy--no fruit, no oatmeal, not even a slightly-less-unhealthy bran muffin. Plus, there was nowhere to eat--and you only got one or two muffins. My husband was still starving! The owners were nice, but I think they'd do better not to claim that they're serving breakfast at all. It is a great location, though!
