Place we have stayed 7-8 times - near beach.Posted Sep 13, 2014
Pros: Cleanliness, friendly and accomodating staff, closeness to beach access, and the 7:00am "breakfast".
Cons: Provide more usable counter top area throughout the unit.
Location: Located on Moonstone Beach Drive - 100 yards across from 8,000 foot long, ocean-hugging walking path. Cambria town 1 mile away.
Facility continues to show its age. Room was missing a piece of furniture (desk). Counter top area is limited in comparison to other rooms we have stayed in at the establishment. Overall cleanliness continues to impress. Location and distance to beach walking path can't be beat.

Nice and clean hotel right on the beach!Posted Sep 2, 2014
The only negative on the stay was the overall water pressure in the room. The shower pressure turned a 5 minute rinse into a 25 minute experience.

Pricey for no view.Posted Aug 13, 2014
Facility was fine and breakfast was good. Staff was helpful. Pool was not as clean as it could be. Pricey for a room with no view.

Birthday WeekendPosted Jul 30, 2014
Pros: I enjoyed the proximity to the beach and the walking paths along the beach.
Cons: Air condition would have been nice.
Location: We were not able to enjoy the quaint town near our hotel. However you would have to drive in a few minutes to wander the town. Not in walking distance
We decided to go away for the weekend for my Birthday and wanted to stay close by to Hearst Castle. I searched the web tirelessly for the perfect hotel and finally settled on Fireside Inn in Cambria. Sometimes you just don't know what you are really going to get, but we were pleasantly surprised by the wonderfully large room we received. The bed was GREAT, as were the soft sheets. There was a nice seating area in front of the bed and a fireplace. There was also a wet bar. We filled the sink with ice and chilled the Champagne. We had a nice little patio. Most of the patios face the parking lot, so if you leave your sliding doors open, know that people can see in your room. There were only a few rooms that would face the beach, but it really didn't matter, because it was fogged in early in the evening and up to mid day so it would have not benefited us. The bathroom was large and had a tub and shower, a must for me! The only draw back was there was not any A/C, however they did a a small wall unit for air, not sure it worked all that great to cool the humid room, but we turned it on at night since we didn't want to leave the sliding door curtains open as they face the parking lot. In the morning, we went to the continental breakfast and it was average. They had some fruit, waffle station, muffins, oatmeal, eggs, and sausage, juice and coffee (I'm sure other things as well). It was enough to get us going for the day. I would stay here again.

Quaint stayPosted Jul 25, 2014
Pros: The vista and location were perfect. On site breakfast was a nice feature.
Cons: Install ceiling fans. Have breakfast options with some variation by day. Add things like melons, berries, pineapple, danish.
The oceanfront room created a very lovely experience. The beds were very comfortable. While a very old style inn, the rooms were very clean and well appointed. The grounds were well maintained. everything contributed to a great environment to relax and enjoy the natural beauty. The management was extremely helpful and pleasant, especially Dale. A great place to stay if you are planning to visit Hearst Castle or just want to get away from the hustling world. The only negative was there is no airconditioning or ceiling fans or fans of any kind so by late afternoon the room was a little hot for us and it took several hours to cool down.

across the street from the ocean, free breakfastPosted Jul 2, 2014
Pros: Polite service, free breakfast, and parking right in front of your residence.
Was very comfortable, 1 minute walk to the shore, there is a 2 mile trail which you can walk along the beach. Easy access to HWY 1. Restaurants within walking distance, but the town shuts down at 8pm so you need to eat before then.
