Beautiful location for comfortable lodging.Posted Jan 28, 2015
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Walking trails along the beach right outside our door. Wonderful seafood restaurants also walking distance. Whale watching from the lodge! We were blessed with perfect weather but winters tend to be wonderful on the coast. Motel in the middle of renovation yet very accommodating and pleasant. Good breakfast provided.

Amazing location; great hotel friendly & staffPosted Jan 27, 2015
Pros: I could not find anything wrong!
Cons: Perhaps parking space.
Location: Walking on the beach. Going further north to see Elephant Seals, just 5 to 15 miles north of the hotel and then great beaches 30 miles towards north
I used to go around Los Angeles over years and never came this far! I should have looked a little further! This place is absolutely breathtaking.

Great breakfast everything else mediocrePosted Dec 23, 2014
Thankfully and wisely the property is getting a makeover;it is needed! Horrible dirty and dated bathroom. Lighted fireplace kept breaking. Best part of stay was the wonderful breakfast. I am sure it will be a better property once the renovations are completed. Our stay in Dec '14 was very average.

Not an inn.Posted Dec 18, 2014
Pros: Nothing but the cleanliness of the room.
Cons: The Fog Catcher is simply not as described. It is a motel as such and if described this way we would not have stayed there.
Location: Cambria is a nice, small town along the coastal highway near Hearst Castle. It has a great French restaurant...Madeleine.
I was surprised when I drove up to the Fog Catcher Inn. It was not an inn. It was a large motel like many others along a strip of motels in Cambria. Checking in was not a pleasant experience as I seemed to be intruding on the person at the counter...not sure what else they were supposed to be doing. Half the motel is undergoing renovation. We stayed in the older part (which actually was more pleasing inside than what I could see of the part being renovated. The room was clean but with few amenities. There was not the charm that was described. You could hear the traffic on both sides of the motel (Route 1 and the ocean highway). Breakfast was meager and unappealing. I think the bagels were stale. Overall a very disappointing experience.

Perfect spot for a romantic getaway. Love the fireplaces in the rooms and the breakfast was a perk.

best breakfast in townPosted Nov 22, 2014
The sound of the surf to lull you to sleep or the drizzle of rain that was so refreshing added to our stay. They have the best morning breakfast in town.

Nice, will be nicer soon!Posted Nov 12, 2014
Pros: It's right across the street from the boardwalk and it's a lovely walk up and down. Close to restaurants, too.
Cons: The outside needs to be updated. The bathroom could use updating, too.
We were a bit worried about the hotel, from the looks of the outside. It's meant to look old-European, but looks worn and run down. At least a new, modern paint job would help the curb appeal. The good news here is, the rooms were very comfortable, soon to be remodeled and I'm assuming that means the outside as well. We were in room 904, in the back and very quiet. The room has high ceilings, double paned windows and a gas fireplace that is controlled by a thermostat, that is more than adequate to heat the room. It was very cozy! Amenities included Philosophy bath products, a Keurig coffee machine, microwave and fridge. Hot coffee and water for tea were available in the lobby when we checked in along with some fresh apples and cookies. Breakfast the next morning was ample; two waffle makers, oatmeal with the fixings, two kinds of scrambled eggs, sausage, toast and pastries. Cereal too, yogurt, milk, two kinds of juice...apples and oranges.
