Funky MotelPosted Mar 23, 2015
Pros: Clean, affordable, close to Hearst Castle.
Location: Just a few miles from Hearst Castle and the elephant seal beaches (depending on the time of year you are there)
This motel is probably a kickback to the older days but they have done a nice job keeping things. The rooms and furnishings are not as new or as fancy as your upscale hotels but if your looking for good motel with reasonable rates for a short stay, this is the one. Motel staff gave us some excellent suggestions to eat dinner and breakfast, be sure to ask.

Great location.Posted Mar 20, 2015
Pros: Loved the location. We had room 280. King, balcony facing the ocean and a fireplace that was great to ward off the damp.
Cons: The hotel could have put off painting the stairs to our room until the next day when we had checked out. Anti-foam agent should be used in jacuzzi.
Location: Go to Harmony.
Planned a stop in San Simeon on our way back from Portland to see Hearst Castle. Hotel was easy to find. Two nights worked perfect for us. We did the Castle tour (upstairs tour) and then went to Cambria. Food is expensive at the restaurants in the area but the mini-mart has microwaveable food. That worked for us as we had brought snacks and drinks. We used the pool area, though the jacuzzi needed some anti-foam agent in it as it had WAY to much foam when the jets were on. We brought our own coffee pot and coffee so mornings were great on the balcony. A little weird when we came back from our day out and the stairs to our room were freshly painted and wet. We had to go to the other side of the hotel for those stairs and cross other rooms balcony's.

easy access to Hearst castle!Posted Feb 18, 2015
bed was a bit lopsided but I still slept great! Wonderful cable-direct tv! Coffee pot didn't work but was IMMEDIATELY replaced! Easy checkin process. Friendly and kind front desk staff! Rooms a lil run down but for 1 overnight, suited our purpose!

Decent motel if you're on the way to somewherePosted Feb 17, 2015
Pros: Clean large rooms, big lawn in front of the room which the kids loved.
Cons: Better service, remodel the rooms (very old and it shows), don't charge for a crib.
Location: Elephant seals viewing deck very close by, Hearst castle is close by
We checked in rather late to the motel, on our way from LA to SF. We called ahead a few hours before checking in to remind them about the crib we needed. They then told us its 10$ per night extra, which is kind of outrageous. They then put us in a room next to the ice machine which makes a lot of noise until 10pm. The room itself was big and comfortable, the bath and sink were very(!) old but overall everything worked ok. The surrounding town is tiny, doesn't have any decent restaurants or shops that we could find. The best dining option was in Cambria 5 miles away.

Best little motel in the areaPosted Feb 16, 2015
We visit Cambria as often as we can and this is the motel we always choose to stay at. I've never had a problem with noise or my room or anything. The best feature at the Silver Surf is that all the rooms look in on a meadow-like courtyard that has a fountain and benches for sitting. The rooms are always clean and in the past 7 years, I can honestly say I've never had a bad room or a bad experience.

I stayed for 2 1/2 weeks.Posted Feb 2, 2015
My needs were met.Plenty of parking. My room phone wasn't working, no big deal. Cell phone was all I needed. WiFi is ok. I was here taking care of family business in Cambria, would have liked a fast computer connection. Come for the awesome scenery and not for fast wifi. Staff is friendly and helpful.

Getaway on the cheapPosted Jan 24, 2015
Pros: It was relatively inexpensive.
Cons: Even though air conditioning isn't required much on the central coast, it would be nice to have. Room was stuffy.
The hotel was close to everything we wanted to do.
