Disappointing stay

Pros: Hardly anybody else was staying there -- for good reason.
Cons: The service, the internet connection, the amenities, the bar hours.
Stayed at this hotel for a convention with three coworkers. The service at the front-desk was unwelcoming at best, as nobody was actually at the desk and a custodian had to find someone. I asked the receptionist how the breakfast is and she grimaced and shook her head and replied that she'd only eat the fruit. The room was about 110 degrees and I literally had to turn the air conditioner on despite it being 5 degrees outside. Despite advertising internet, it did not work in any of the 4 rooms we had reserved. It was out of season, so I get the pool INDOOR pools not being open, but the hotel didn't even open the bar and the receptionist told us that "none of the amenities are open". Would have been nice if that had been stated before we made reservations. I would not stay here again and I do not recommend it to anybody.

Not great in winter.

Pros: It was definitely shelter from the freezing cold outside.
Cons: Bed firmness. Bathroom conditions.
Location: It's right on the main drag in town. Very convenient to everything.
Bed was uncomfortable. Heat was noisy. Bathroom could have functioned better and could have been cleaner.

Facility maintenance is poor. Bathroom tub was not clean, the shower curtain came off. Bed sheets were not clean.

Maui Sands fun

We took our 3 kids there and they loved it. It's a smaller version of Kalahari. But it was nice and fun. Hotel bathrooms were a little gross but they were busy. Your room bathroom is very tiny. But overall it was nice.

The Little Indoor Waterpark That Could and Did

Excellent location. Very smart redo of two hotels into a single hotel with an indoor waterpark. I had been going to Sandusky's Great Bear Lodge through the time Kalahari opened. And, I have been at Sandusky's Kalahari Resort every year since it opened. The water is just as good or better. The rides are better than the comparable attractions at all other indoor waterparks. The same can be said for the quality and number of lifeguards. The pools have cushioned walls and floors. And yes, they have a one to two person tubed "toilet". Is Kalahari the better indoor waterpark? Of course. But, this one can definitely do the job under the appropriate circumstances without all of the major walking, long lines, and high expenditures you must endure at Kalahari. Also, the rooms are larger, more comfortable and usable compared to the Hut and Dessert rooms at Kalahari. Actually, the room I had at Maui Sands was just as good or better than all but the top tier hotels I have stayed at. And, unlike staying at Great Wolf and Kalahari, you can quickly get to, and from, your vehicle which enables you to easily take in all the other eateries and attractions that Sandusky has to offer, (including the competing indoor waterparks). What can Maui Sands improve on? Curb appeal, exterior signage, restaurant layout, nets on the basketball hoops, hotter water in the hot tub, and a better method to handle "rush hour" at the front desk.

Did not like water park being open at noon it should be early like great wolf lodge 9am to 9pm!
