“nice hotel”

Very nice hotel. We had a room on the third floor, it was very clean, a very large bathroom and shower...although I would suggest they put towel hooks near the shower. There is a computer in the room with free internet acceess and wifi, a large refridgerator with items for purchase. The airconditioner took a while to get cool, but eventually was acceptable. The staff is extremely helpful. They told me I could check in for my flight in my room and they would print my boarding pass...although they didn't tell me there would be a charge for the printing until after they printed for me..not a big deal though. The food in the restaurant was EXCELLENT, although we came to find out the chef was not there that night and that his "helper" made our food...and she did a phenomenal job! The pre-paid meal plan was well worth it. I arranged for their driver to take us to to the airport, he was on time and drove very calmly for me. They charge a $100 refundable fee for the room, they said would be released in 24 hours...it took longer than that and they charged me $...although I don't know what for since I paid cash for my copies...also not a big deal. All in all an excellent hotel!

“Quiet, friendly and affordable hideaway in Monteverde”

Though a little bit out of the way, Hotel Luisiana was delightfully quiet and affordable. Our host, Antony, spoke excellent English and was extraordinarily helpful. A very worthwhile Night Hike is available right on the premises, and our cabin had its own washing machine, which was great for our mud-stained clothing. We spotted coatis, agutis, hummingbirds and other critters from our window. Breakfast was an affordable $4 each and was simple but delicious and sustaining.

Getting around

Expect to call cabs to get into town when you don't want to walk a third of a mile.

“Great Hotel for transit”

We love the hotel because it's clean, cute, charming and convenient. The rooms are very cheap, but the breakfast is totally over priced.

Area recommendations

Dominical area in the southern zone of Costa Rica, on the Pacific side. This is the part of Costa Rica that is much less developed with a lot of wild life. I think it's the pretiest part of Costa Rica.

Dining

Sunday brunch at Bella Vista Lodge in Escalera, near Dominical. It's got the best view and best food.

“Good value for money”

This hotel offers very good value for money. Rooms are very comfortable and we appreciated the computer at the room. The personnel was very helpfuI. Only thing we would recommend management to improve is the somewhat complicated way they use for the charge to cover any incidentals --this is pretty normal, of course, but the procedure used is a little cumbersome.

Area recommendations

La Sabana is the best mix of location, price and convenience by far.

“"Great rooms at a great price."”

The rooms at Luisiana are some of the nicest I've ever stayed in at the price point I received. The bathrooms in particular. There is a convenient restaurant in the hotel with good food though the service is sketchy and the pricing a little high. They have a nice wine list heavy on Argentina and there again the pricing is high. I stayed at Luisiana coming and going into Costa Rica and would do so again.

“Best Value in Area”

I have been to this area in Costa Rica 16 times in the past and have stayed in various hotels and this is by far the best value for the money. The only downside is that it is difficult to locate at first.The rooms are spacious and well appointed and the security is excellent.The hotel staff is very friendly and accomadating.It is close to restaurants etc.A superior stay for a small price. Do not hesitate to stay here.

Area recommendations

Most areas outside of San Jose have both good and bad areas but I would look in Santa Ana, Escazu and Heredia. San Jose has more property crime than elsewhere.

“Will Definitely Stay There Again”

I am a Diamond VIP member at Hilton. I visit Costa Rica each month. This was my first stay at the Hotel Luisiana. The hotel is in a very quiet location, but not too far from the airport (SJO). Multiplaza, the best mall in the area, is only 10-15 minutes away. You can rent a car directly from the hotel, but the shuttle service was also great. Room service was prompt; the room was clean; no bugs, quite large and had lots of closet space. The A/C worked great via remote control, and my wife and I both liked the premium mattress. The bathroom was roomy, and the shower area was spacious with lots of hot water. The cable TV had a nice selection and the LCD TV was a decent size. The room included a small fridge, but we missed not having a microwave. Never had one service interruption with our in-room WiFi service - which is incredible for San Jose! The house white wine - served in a small green bottles with no labels - was surprisingly fabulous (recommended!!!). The food was good, but we wished there were 1 or 2 traditional Costa Rican dishes on the breakfast and dinner menus to try. Overall, the facilities were great; the staff was courteous, helpful, and professional and we would definitely stay there again.

Area recommendations

Santa Ana is a nice, safe area away from the crime and traffic of the city of San Jose. Also, Escazu is a nice area.

Shopping

Multiplaza is a 3-level mall with some upscale stores that are available in the United States. The mall also has a cinema with the latest movies.
