The location is great. The man checking us in Monday was very friendly but the girl checking us out Tuesday didn't even speak to us when we went in for our breakfast. She was watching an exercise equipment infomercial!

Close to the Beach, but a little too ShabbyPosted Jul 2, 2013
Pros: The location of the hotel is optimal! Beachfront and about a block away from the pier.
Cons: There were hardly any facilities in the room and the bathroom was pretty outdated. They did have a large jacuzzi in the room, but it was out of order!
Location: We were able to walk to beach, pier, shopping, restaurants and clubs. Perfect location!
This hotel was "OK" for our stay because we were only there for 1 night and spend most of the time at the beach or out until the wee hours. After a long day at the beach and in the sun, a good shower would have been nice. However, the shower was a little less than pleasant. It didn't really bother us, as we are pretty low maintenance, but I would imagine that it would not be up to other's standards. We would probably stay there again if we are in the area because the price is right for the LOCATION!

Very TiredPosted Jun 25, 2013
Pros: Location across the street to the beach. Good Wi-Fi & big screen TV
Cons: A complete make over
Location: Walk to beach, Sterns Wharf and harbor shops/restaurants.
Very tired furnishings, musty smell. Mold around the shower. Scratchy sheets, hard pillows. No air conditioning, just a fan. Next door to a Veterans Hall, so noisy party at night - earplugs didn't help. No in-room coffee. Phone just a prop - not connected to anything. Continental breakfast was just coffee, juice and packaged sweet rolls from 7-11. All this luxury for only $300.00 and no view!

Nice place.. Just don't set your expectations highPosted May 7, 2013 on Hotels.com
Hotel was clean, bed comfortable. In need of some maintenance. Good enough for a one-two night stay. Perfect location for enjoying the pier and marina.

Location was great. Rooms not great. Sheets on the bed were very rough.

Convenient and close to the train stationPosted Jan 22, 2013
Pros: Close to train station
Cons: The actual "toilet room" in the bathroom was a bit small. Sort of like a closet with a toilet in it.
Location: Great location. They have a patio balcony that over looks the beach and pier.
Nice place on the beach and two blocks from the train station. Very convenient overall. They let us stay past the normal check out time without charge since our train did not depart until 2PM. That made the stay worth just a little bit more in my book.

Avoid this one....Posted Nov 3, 2012 on Hotels.com
The Ala Mar is a run down, dirty, dated property. Beautiful location, great neighborhood; but this is the worst place to stay in this area!
