Great balance of quality and value

Posted Oct 19, 2014
Pros: Quality and price
Cons: In-hotel dining was a bit lacklustre
Location: $5 cab ride from downtown, 5-7 min drive to botanical gardens
Comfortable, clean and well-appointed hotel. Friendly staff who helped us with local tips, taxis etc. Would stay there again; great blend of value, quality and proximity to downtown.

Nice hotel convenient for a short term stay

Posted Oct 18, 2014
We were traveling down the coast and chose to stay one night in the Encina Lodge. The check in staff were very helpful, made check in easy and provided us with all the relevant information about the surrounding area. Our room and the reception area felt welcoming and very comfortable. It was great to have free coffee, tea and fruit provided in reception as well as in our room! However the decor was a little bit dated and the shop near reception did detract from the overall atmosphere. We didn't get a chance to use the pool area but saw a number of people making use of it. Breakfast was not included in the room, but we did stop at the attached restaurant to have some. The food was fine but they forgot one of our portions of toast and it never came! Overall the Encina Lodge is a great place to stay for a short while and we enjoyed our stay.

Pros: Location. Handicapped Room
Location: Quiet Neighborhood in Town
We traveled to a wedding in Santa Barbara. Our Mom is Handicapped. They upgraded us to the Handicapped Suite and allowed us to check in early so we could get Grandma ready for the Wedding. The Staff was very kind and helpful. Quiet Neighborhood Location. The room was Perfect. Thanks

The staff are very friendly. Fun little in room amenities such as apples, candy and crackers with your coffee. The rooms are clean and comfortable. 15-20 minute walk to get to downtown state street.

Nice hotel. It is not close to the beach.

Cons: We bought a wrap in gift shop and wanted another one. We had to find our own transportation to the Pepper Tree location. It should have be delivered!
Location: Only the Mission was close, we walked there. Restaurants mostly down town, except one across the street.
Would have liked close to the beach. Cab fare about $14.00, can take a bus on State Street if we knew the schedule? Everyone very helpful. Loved the coffee and fruit in the lobby. We went on a Wine tour the first day, kayaking the second. Appreciated the shutter service to the train station, wish we would have known to call for a shuttle from the train to the hotel?

A good choice for an overnight staying

Posted Aug 18, 2014
Pros: Not so much
Cons: N/a
Location: The super court and city tour of Santa Barbara
Friendly staff, but some misunderstanding when working on the reservation with Expedia, got extra charge for the occupants. -- disappointing.

a lot of money to rest your head. Took a chance staying with Best Western. This was fairly clean, no continental breakfast and whoever made the map of the strip must have been from another country. They charged us for two double bed room and there were 3 family members so they charged for a third person. What is that? I suppose if you own a hotel anywhere around a popular place, you can offer little and charge a lot and get away with it ...ONCE. We would not go back but, if you're looking to stay a night and money is no object, I guess it's o.k.I cringe every time I over pay for a place. I'm cringing. Santa Barbara was great though
