So Santa Barbara

Posted Jul 22, 2014
Pros: Roomy room. Nice decks with conversational clusters of comfortable furniture.
Cons: Well the rug wasn't completely immaculate but definitely clean.
Location: Beach!! Beach!!
Fantastic hotel experience, we had a nice room with actual air flowing through it, and a ceiling fan. Right on the beach, with really nice big deck areas where people can gather and socialize. This added a bit of extra noise, but was not unreasonable and ended early enough. The staff was superb: actual eye contact and sincere smiles. We would go back, for sure.

Close to the beach but terrible hotel

Posted Jul 15, 2014
Pros: nothing
Cons: everything
Location: right on beach but very noisy
This was not a bargain hotel but I had emergency business. I usually stay @ the Montecito Inn which is great. The room I booked was ocean front king room. There is no AC and the room is literally five feet from the sidewalk. There is a ceiling fan in the room but it doesn't move fast enough to reduce the heat. I requested a new room before I unpacked. They gave me a second floor room, much smaller. The windows were big enough but only a small portion opened. There was a table and chairs right outside the window and other guests were using it until 12:30 @ night talking. Needless to say no sleep the first night. Second night I propped my door open (not safe) but at that point I didn't care if I was robbed, all I wanted was some sleep. The bathroom was not clean, floors were not clean. You had to pay $18.00 a night to park and it is almost impossible to find a space near your room. There is no valet parking. Usually for a $18.00 parking fee there is valet parking. The breakfast was mediocre at best and they started cleaning up and putting the chairs on tables @ 10:00 am. Never saw that before. When I checked out I asked what the credit would be for changing my room to a much smaller one and they told me they could nothing since I booked the room through Expedia. They did credit me for the parking fee. I will check with Expedia, maybe they can charge me for the room I actually stayed in. I was born in SB and this hotel is a bad representation of what SB has o

Superb location... with some limitations

Posted Jul 15, 2014
Our room, right over the Lobby facing the ocean, had a great view of the beach and Stearn's Wharf. The room appointments were fine. The outside common "living room" just outside our room was a bonus -- nicely furnished with a great ocean view. The limitation was privacy. We like to leave the blinds open to watch the ocean, and it was a warm evening (with no air conditioning), so we left the windows open as well. Since guests and staff had access to the outside "living room" and walkway between our window and the ocean, it made for a less private experience than I would have liked. The Expedia ranking of this hotel was right on mark.

We are totally dissappointed with this hotel.

Posted Jul 15, 2014
Pros: nothing.
Although there was an ocean view on the website for the specific room we made reservation for, we ended up in a room by the pool with no view. It was a small room, dark, and very noisy. There was no room service, we had to go to bed hungry. Extra fee for parking. Staff was not friendly. Breakfast was ridicilous, very small buffett in a very small place.

Attractive large property with spartan furnishings

Posted Jul 12, 2014
Pros: Great breakfast, old world charm
Cons: Trained staff and better handle on housekeeping
Location: Walking distance to pier, beach and restaurants. Summer music festival.
Mix-up by desk clerk resulted in room not ready for 3 hours after arrival. Not cleaned 2nd day until we complained at 3pm. Mgr very apologetic for both problems, waiving charges for 1st day. Seems like in midst of renovation as paint was fresh but lacked amenities like hooks, shelves in bathroom etc. Located on trafficked street but across from beach and bay.

Good From Far, Far From Good

I really wanted to like this hotel, however it was impossible, especially for the price we paid. Charming property at first glance, but once you start looking around you will see how run down the hotel is. NO AIRCONDITIONER. It was not that the air conditioner didn't work, there was not one at all. It was very hot and uncomfortable. Extremely small room and bathroom, both dirty. The worst part of the stay was the bathroom smell. It smelled like a sewer during our entire stay. I would recommend finding a different hotel if you are looking for a luxury stay in Santa Barbara.

Getaway for the Weekend

Posted Jul 9, 2014
The location is nice. It is very close to beach and state street. The room was nice. Unfortunately, when anyone used the water, you could hear it through the walls. A ceiling fan was the only way to keep the room cool besides opening windows. If you don't spend much time in the room and your heavy sleeper, you will enjoy it.Otherwise, the experience would have been better.

Overall no problems. The only thing was that the couch bed was very uncomfortable. It was 3 people in 1 room with a queen sized bed and a sofa bed. The sofa bed was pretty bad but then again, which sofa bed is good? Other than that, great location and charming looking hotel.
