“Beautiful Bed and Breakfast near State St.”

This B&B was delightful from the quaint front porch to the cozy room, sweet gardens and bountiful breakfast spread. The staff was VERY courteous and helpful. We enjoyed dinner at the restaurant in the hotel -LOUIE'S CALIFORNIA BISTRO. FINE DINING!! GREAT SERVICE TOO!! We found this location to be PERFECT for our MOTHER/DAUGHTER weekend. Close to STATE ST shopping and other fine dining.

“A stay you wont forget or regret!”

I made a last minute booking at this hotel, and have never been more surprised by the accommodating service from a hotel before! Its not top notch exclusive or fancy, but from the fruit and coffee to the milk and cookies I have never been treated this nice before, just like staying at grandmas! I travel ALOT, and have stayed at many of the worlds nicest hotels, and can assure you that at The Upham you get a great CLEAN accommodation for the money you spend (with a cookie on top!)

“A lovely place to stay”

The Upham is a great place to stay if you're looking for a peaceful break. It is in a good location, close to the shops and restaurants on State Street and we felt safe walking around at night. The hotel itself is beautfully appointed. We had a small "cottage room" with a private deck area, and a short walk through a pretty garden to the main hotel. Breakfast, wine and cheese in the afternoon and oreos and milk at bedtime were an added bonus!

“Quaint and homey”

This is a larger bed & breakfast type hotel that has a lot of charm. The space would be perfect for a small wedding where all the guests could stay in the same location. Parking is a bit of a challange but otherwise it was an excellent experience. I would definitely come back and stay again.

“heart of Santa Barbara”

This historic hotel is located in the heart of downtown Santa Barbara..you can easily walk to restaurants, shops and the art museum or take the trolley down to the beach. Our room and bath were a bit old fashioned but perfectly maintained and the grounds are lovely.

“Intersting but lacking”

The hotel is quaint and unique. The property is well maintained. The property has been updated to accommodate most of the expectations of “frequent” travelers. The issue that remains is its “uniqueness”. The uniqueness translates to the date the property was built when walls were thin and air conditioning was a luxury. To maintain a comfortable sleeping environment included leaving all the windows open. If you don’t mind being part of your neighbor’s conversations or late arrivals and early departures it’s a great property. The atmosphere is genuine and is truly a definition of hospitality. The staff and property is accommodating and is a reflection of the operator. It’s proximately to the heart of Santa Barbara make it convenient to walk to and from “downtown” and not worry about taking your car. The guest areas are terrific and plentiful. If you just want to relax, read a book and enjoy the Santa Barbara climate and what the town has to offer this is a perfect location.

“Where's the B & B Charm with Oreo Cookies?”

Location of the Upham is amazing - just two blocks from State St. in Santa Barbara where there's many wonderful restaurants and shops. This B & B was charming, clean, and friendly. My criticism is afternoon wine and crackers offered one cheese ball. Evening cookies consisted of a plate of oreos. I can, perhaps, understand one cheese ball but oreos? No "B & B charm" with a box of oreos!! I feel the Upham is in a great location and has charming surroundings but is overpriced considering the little extras one expects from a B & B.
