“Old Sante Fe Inn”

Great experience. The staff were friendly and accommodating. The room was small but comfortable for a single traveler. If I was traveling with my spouse and staying for an extended time I would have looked into one of the larger suites. Two things that are important to me are if you make the room dark enough to sleep in and is it quiet. The answer to both of those is a resounding yes. The comfortable bed and pillows were a big plus. With the cold snap that Santé Fe experienced while I was there the fireplaces in the main office and restaurant were very welcoming in the morning. The breakfast bar and coffee selection was excellent. Great location, just a few blocks from either the plaza or rail yard. Wireless connection was suitable for checking email or some light surfing. They do need to ditch the 19" CRT televisions in the rooms and upgrade to small flat panel televisions though. Overall it was a great experience to stay there.

Area recommendations
Definately the plaza area and if you are into spending big bucks on arts and crafts head for Gallery Road. I used Sante Fe as a base to visit other areas in north central NM.

“A great stay”

The Old Santa Fe Inn is not necessarily the type of hotel I usually stay in, but it exceeded my expectations on all fronts. The layout of the inn was what I think of fora motel (central parking surrounded by low 1-2 story buildings, doors exiting to the courtyard). Despite the close proximity to the parking area, I never noticed vehicle noise. The standard, single queen bed, room was not huge but was very comfortable (bed quality was great, a big plus for a multi-night stay). Amenities such as a free wi-fi (or plug-in) internet connection, free coffee all day, free full breakfast, and friendly staff added greatly to the stay. The hotel was situated perfectly for my needs. It is within a couple blocks of both the downtown-plaza area and the rail-yard area. This made for easy walking when we wanted to explore. It is also situated on a main artery so that driving to more distant parts of the city was a breeze. The staff was very friendly and exceedingly helpful when asking any questions. The room was clean and well prepared for our visit. It made for a wonderfully central and comfortable place to come back to and relax after busy days. If you are going to visit Santa Fe for leisure purposes I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone. Note: If I ever needed a landing pad for a business trip, I might explore options to see if I could get a room with a bigger desk (spreading out is important to me). If you need this, then I would recommend calling and asking about it.

Area recommendations
One thing to keep in mind is that Santa Fe is not a very big city. Example: Driving from the south-central to the northern end of town only takes about 10 minutes even during rush times. This means that you probably could get by in any area of the city. However, if you enjoy walking around like me, then the area around the plaza or rail-yard neighborhoods would be good choices. From these areas there are easy walks to something interesting in all directions. The northern-central area of the city is where many of the points of interest are: historic plaza, old rail-yard neighborhood, theaters, museums, dining, etc. The Canyon Road area (from the plaza neighborhood stretching East) is also rich with eclectic/fine eateries and art galleries if that is your cup of tea. The other areas of the city that I have explored in less detail seem to range from residential to pockets of local shops/restaurants. Despite the smaller size of the city, It is a big enough that it also sports areas that are more generically available to most cities: a couple of malls, some big box stores, etc. Depending on the purpose and circumstances of your trip, some of those less exciting but more recognizable features can be a good thing. I wouldn't count these other areas out, but I just don't know as much about them.

“Great breakfast; friendly staff; decent location”

Good value for Santa Fe- just a 10 minute walk from the Plaza and a short drive to museum hill and Canyon Rd galleries, we enjoyed our stay. The breakfast was very nice with some amazing bread and variety of hot and cold options. Staff was very friendly and helpful.

“Good, but with some issues”

I stayed at OSFI for 5 nights. The room [#9] I had was above the laundry room and the machines ran from early morning to late at night, so I didn't get a good night's rest. Also, the walls are paper thin - can hear the creaky floors next door and all the commotion. The Inn iteself is nice, just a tad bit old. The room [deluxe suite] is also very nice and spacious, though the bathtub was a bit modly. The location was good - close to everything. The complimentary breakfast was also good. Overall a nice place, but I will most likely choose a different hotel for my next visit.

“Perfect Hotel for Santa Fe”

I love this hotel and will come back again and again. My first choice was booked and I am so glad!!!! I ended up at the Old Santa Fe Inn via expedia. I had a room with a king size bed and a fireplace- super cozy, great layout, perfect room. The grounds are beautiful, the staff is amazing- the nicest people and the breakfast is incredible, don't miss out on the breakfast! Great location to walk everywhere and I walked from the train with my luggage a few blocks away. Also great if you are driving because of parking. Not right in the center of the plaza and action, a block away which is perfect becauase you can walk to everything but it is peaceful and out of the hustle and bustle. I will be back! The website doesn't do it justice- much cuter in person. Rooms are very nice for the price range, can't say enough about the helpful and friendly staff.

Area recommendations
I liked the location of the hotel- the south side of the river but very close to all the action of the plaza and center of Santa Fe. Everything is in walking distance.
When to go
I travelled to Santa Fe in October- perfect time! All the trees were turning (they have tons of trees) and the town was full of fall colors. it was cool in the morning but perfect walking weather 68-72 degrees in afternoon. Beautiful.
Getting there
I highly recommend the Rail Runner train from Albuquerque. You can buy tickets on line, there is a free shuttle to and from the airport to the train station. The ride is beautiful and easy with luggage and the train station in Sanat Fe is close to everything.

“Great Stay”

We spent 3 nights and enjoyed every one. The staff was so helpful and friendly. Alex especially gave us suggestions and directions for the area. They have a nice breakfast burrito bar each morning and the rooms and outside are typical Santa Fe style. Friedndlist folks anywhere and nice surroundings. Couldn't be happier.

“Will be returing in February!”

First....the staff was just wonderful. I am sure you would all agree it is the staff that makes the experience. They can either make or break it. Everyone was very nice and very accommodating. I felt very at home! The room was just the right size. The bed was lush. The water pressure in the shower was good. Coffee is available 24x7 and cookies (if you can beat off the crowd) are available from 4 - 7 p.m. The location is great, the morning breakfast is good, though after 4 days I was kind of bored with it. I would highly recommend this hotel. I have stayed at several others in Santa Fe and I would have to say I like the overall feel of this place.

“wonderful hotel”

My daughter and I stayed at the Old Santa Fe Inn for 6 nights in June, 2011. We were very pleased with our stay. It had a wonderful breakfast, was clean and safe, and the front desk was helpful every time we had a question. Our room was very small and the walls were thin (I could hear conversations on the other side) but all the guests were quiet and considerate. This was the only thing I noticed that wasn't perfect about the Inn. If you had loud neighbors, it would be a problem, but we did not. The parking is free and close to the room, but many times we didn't need our car because we could walk everywhere in Santa Fe. We also liked having free tea and coffee any time we wanted it. Overall, we'd recommend this hotel.

Area recommendations
Restaurants and areas we visited and would recommend would be the Canyon Rd. galleries, Ten Thousand Waves spa, the Railyard galleries and Farmer's Market, The Plaza (or course!), Bandelier National Monument (our favorite day!), the Thai Cafe, Upper Crust pizza, Louie's Corner Cafe, The Santa Fe Baking Co., Tomasita's Mexican rest., and the Bumble Bee Cafe'.

“My favorite hotel in Santa Fe”

I always stay at the Old Santa Fe hotel when visiting Santa Fe. The reception check-in, room cleanliness and breakfast are all very good, and the location is excellent for visiting the central plaza. My only word of warning is that some of the rooms are small, and it is necessary to avoid them, generally rooms numbered thirty and up.

Area recommendations
Stay as close as you can afford to the Plaza. Avoid the Cerillos Road area.

“Cozy rooms, great location”

Nomar at the front desk was one of the most friendly and helpful hotel employees that I have encountered in awhile. My wife and I enjoyed our stay and found the location convenient to the market and restaurants.
