“Not clean, but good location”

If you are looking for a budget hotel in a central location, this is an option. The hotel service was good, but the cleanliness of the rooms were poor.

“Good place, without the thorn in the bed!”

I love the Sage Inn, so take this low rating with a grain of salt. But i woke up with a giant burr-thorn in bed this past weekend, to point where it scraped my arm and drew blood. Not cool. Otherwise, great place, reasonable, well-located. Very friendly staff.

“Most Affordable Hotel near the Plaza”

The Sage Inn is ideal, as it's priced for the budget crowd, but instead of being located on the far end of Cerrillos Road with all the faceless chain motels, it's located within walking distance (15 or 20 minutes) of the Plaza and historical center (or a five-minute drive.) The trendy gallery and restaurant-studded Santa Fe Railyard (and SITE Santa Fe) is right across the street. It's essentially a "Best Western"-type motor lodge in the vicinity of the grand, swanky hotels and inns right off the Plaza, but at a fraction of the price. The Sage Inn has no Southwestern "atmosphere", but who spends time in the hotel room anyway when you're in Santa Fe?

Area recommendations
Other than the historical city center -- the fabled Plaza in particular -- and the galleries and restaurants of Canyon Road, the best destinations in Santa Fe are located just a few miles north of town: the Tesuque, Santa Clara, and San Ildefonso pueblos being the most notable attractions. And the famous, and utterly charming, Rancho de Chimayo restaurant, located near the famous Santuario de Chimayo (the "Lourdes" of the Southwest) is not far beyond, at the beginning of the High Road to Taos (a 40-minute drive from downtown Santa Fe.) Rancho de Chimayo serves some of the best Northern New Mexican cuisine in the entire state, and the setting is enchanting. Closer to town is the famous Bishop's Lodge, an ideal place for a late afternoon cocktail or early dinner. And in the summer, a performance at the splendid open-air theater at Santa Fe Opera (just ten minutes north of downtown) is an absolute must, even if you think you don't care for opera. The experience is unforgettable.
When to go
Any time. Seriously. Santa Fe boast over 300 days of sunshine every year, and even in the dead of winter, you still have blazing blue skies and radiant sunshine.
Getting around
Just a tip for getting out of town and heading towards Albuquerque: you can avoid the bumper-to-bumper, stoplight-every-corner crawl on the endless Cerrillos Road or St. Francis Drive, by instead driving north a mile on Guadalupe from the Plaza area, and getting on the highway north to the Opera. The first exit is the Relief Route (599), a freeway bypass that circles all the way around Santa Fe to the west, and drops you back onto I-25 going south well below town.
Shopping
We visited several of the nearby pueblos assuming we'd get far better prices (and a far better selection) of Native American art directly from the source, but discovered you're hard put to find ANY arts or crafts for sale in the pueblos themselves, much less for a lower price. Thus, the galleries near the Plaza and elsewhere in town really are the best (and often only) way to acquire fine pieces of Native art. But sometimes you can find real gem from one of the Pueblo natives who sell their wares in the portal in front of the Palace of the Governors. Although it's priced way beyond the means of most people, the legendary Packard's (it began as a Navajo rug emporium in the 20s), on the corner of the Plaza across form La Fonda Hotel, is well worth a look-see, as they have always featured perhaps the finest quality Native art and jewelry in the entire country. And their huge collection of magnificent Navajo rugs are easily the finest you'll find outside of a fine art museum.
Dining
If you don't like Mexican or Southwestern cuisine, then why are you going to Santa Fe in the first place? There are a wide variety of very fine restaurants in town, and you can spend two weeks and never once have to consume a green chili, but the real attraction here is the spectacular Northern New Mexican cuisine. The best "five-star" calibre restaurant, a luxurious splurge, is Geronimo's on Canyon Road.
Nightlife
Other than swanky restaurants, where you can linger till 10pm or so, Santa Fe is not a hopping town at night. Most of the bars that are open cater to locals, and a rather downmarket clientele. Santa Fe basically rolls up the sidewalks at 6, and that's it. But that's not why people have been drawn to the area for over a hundred years -- it's the indescribable charm, atmosphere, and stunning light and high desert air that make it a must-see destination, not the inside of a bar or saloon!

“Would definately return to the Santa Fe Sage hotel”

The room was kind of small, the bathroom even smaller, but these are the only drawbacks. The staff was friendly and efficent. The van service that is offered is great. They not only take you into town, but will return and take you anywhere else within a two mile radius of the hotel. Most visitor sights are within this area. The breakfast room is large, clean, and while not a resturant, offers a nice varity of breakfast items and all the juice and coffee you could want. We were very happy with our stay, and would return.

Area recommendations
The Plaza and surrounding area. St.Frances Cathedral, Loreto Chapel, The Georga O'keef Museum, the Palace of Governers, and other musems around the downtown, Plaza area. There are many stores and good resturants in town.
When to go
We were in Santa Fe in mid October and the trees were changing color, very nice. From The Santa Fe Sage hotel, just about everything you'd like to see can be traveled to on the hotel courtesy van. The day time temps were comfortably warm and nights cool. A light jacket or sweater would be good to have in the evening. Make sure to tour the downtown Plaza area thouroughly. There are many interesting museums and churches with beautiful architecture to be amazed at. There are many good places to eat, some are pricey, and some more affordable. All have good food. Ask the van driver for suggestions, they can be very helpful.

“Good value for the money”

Hotel is moderately priced, and abuts a nice residential neighborhood, and a delightful little park. It's only a 15 minute walk to the Plaza area, and the hotel also has a shuttle that will take you anywhere within a two mile radiius of the hotel. Other hotels just a little closer to the Plaza are very expensive, so I find the Sage Inn a great value. The hotel is also located directly across the street from the Saturday (and Tuesday) Farmers and Artists Market in the railyard district; the Market is wonderful, and a great draw. Whole Foods is next door to the hotel for easy access to a healthy restaurant, and many nice restaurants are within walking distance. The only issue I've experienced is the inability to connect in my room to the wireless Internet; however, I can easily connect if I take my computer to the lobby. The hotels also has two computers and a printer in the lobby for guest use.

Area recommendations
Any of the neighborhoods around the Plaza/downtown area, in order to easily access the best of Santa Fe.
