More hostel than hotel

Posted Mar 24, 2014
All in all, the hostel is nice and well located, but there are not enough bathrooms (most are private bathrooms, but outside the rooms and always locked) for dorm guests, while guests in private rooms need to leave their room anyways to get to their bathroom... Consider paying for a private bath when you actually need to wander the corridors!

The High House

Posted Jul 2, 2013
Pros: Staff - flexibility. Fresh cut fruit with breakfast. WiFi in all rooms. High rooms. Roof top patio (for smokers / stargazers).
Cons: No contingency plan when internet cable to building was accidentally cut during neighbour's renovations. No internet :( for 5 days, so, had to leave.
Location: Close to the Santiago Markets, and park/river promenade. Great little wifi café Zoetropo nearby. Bring earplugs to sleep. Deafening traffic noise.
Cheerful staff. No difficulty conversing in English. Fair walking distance from either Bellas Artes or Puentes Cal y Canto Metro stations. Very close to the REAL Santiago Markets a feast for the senses (but not the squeamish). Nice park just outside and East permitting long morning walks. In winter expect cold bathroom. Heater available for dorm if asked for. Overall, like most things in life, it 's all about the people, and they were great and helpful, as were the guests from the world over. Other hostels don't tell you that wifi is only in one common noisy room, this one had wifi available everywhere.

Fairly conveniently located area

It was average, but clean and tidy enough. The toilet and bathroom area was terribly small and not clean enough.

Great location- good hostal

Posted Jan 9, 2013
Pros: location and price
Cons: noise and coffee. Some distance from long distance bus stop.
Location: near to all the sights and very central. Next to a metro
Great location and price. Some staff better than others. I have stayed here on three different occasions and summarise 3 different room booked. 1) with ensuite bathroom - the best option though location at front meant it was noisy. 2) Room at back with share bathroom, bathroom left dirty by previous occupant but quieter and cooler 3) room at front next to reception. Noise from the road and reception meant very little sleep. Notice all rooms now have rules up on wall making this very much a hostal. Good kitchen, breakfast okay but dreadful coffee - bring your own. Great roof terrace, wifi and computers and books for general use.
